  • Had this dude ever been to the Island lol he could have been sucked right ff that bench because the seawall was not 10 feet behind him. can you say crazier than any texan i know

  • thats crazy

  • IKE was 600 miles across and the eye wall was 50 miles across...crazy!

  • Comment removed

  • see what allah can do =)

  • If a Cat 5 ever hits Galveston directly, the cities of Texas City, Galveston, Pasadena ( large city), Pearland, and the entire east side of Houston will be wiped out...completely. Houston has been very very lucky. Ike was bad enough.

  • I bet people that were leaving later were looking at you guys and were like "WTF ARE THEY CRAZY?!?!"

  • i think the most surreal part of this whole vid is 0:47 where we can see both the storm surge coming up over the SEVENTEEN foot high seawall on the right, and the 1900 memorial on the left.....this is just nuts!

  • My friend is moving to Houston and wants me for a visit. So I'll have to check out that seawall.

  • Our house was on 64th. It was completely wiped out.

  • FUCK THE GOD DAMN MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!

  • that seawall saved galveston and galveston saved houston

  • I remember watching this video right after, thinking, who is this idiot and what is he doing. I had no idea it was Reed Timmer. Never miss his show now. I was actually in Galveston, but flew home to washington state, just 8 days before Ike hit. Leaving my 21 year old daughter there, had no idea though that this was going to happen. Don't think i slept for days.

  • poor fish

  • I live in tomball and we were out of power for 2 1/2 weeks

  • Lights are red, you have to wait even though there's a hurricane

  • Many may not realize that the statue at 2:50 and various other places in the video is a memorial to the 6000+ people that died in the 1900 storm.

  • the music is good with this

  • This is what makes Reed Timmer my favorite storm chaser. He has guts like no other and will get so close to these monsters. I hope I get to do this sometimes.

  • it looks like the waves r very calm today!

  • Awesome all around video!

  • Great video with great music

  • that bear was tripping balls

  • I still think it's crazy that to get from the seawall to the beach you have to climb down what 15, 20 steps? After Ike it lookee like you could have step right of the seawall onto the beach...the seawall is a God send...

  • WTF is with the bear @ 4:34? I want that guy's job!

  • The music is sooo perfect for this video.

  • it's like a watershow!

  • I'm glad you all think this video is nuts, but we see this kinda stuff every year in Florida. It just becomes a fact of life here, like kangaroos in Australia and tremors in San Fran.

  • I like the synch of the music to the wave movement, and the bear was just the touch of random I think it needed!

  • i go down them stairs all the time. did a frontside boardslide down the rail of one once. they have like 20-25 steps. then you land in some hotass sand. then you gotta walk a good distance to actually get in the water. now i dont gotta worry bout no hotass sand

  • this video made me cry im a B.O.I and i watch this storm come in a leave, this is a reminder of the 3 week hell we went threw and the aftermath that was worse, so many places gone and lifes lost, and the watching this brought all those feelings back, i watched all this in real life and hope i never have toagain....

  • @MsCandyJane

I totally agree with but, fine gentleman, Ms Candy Jane sounds rather like a woman's name...

    Not to be mean

  • @supermec131 um i am a girl B.O.I means Born On Island not that im a boi

  • @MsCandyJane

    Oh!

lol, still sounds funny though. May I present you my sincerest apologies, madam.

  • @MsCandyJane yeah i come here to galveston all the time that hotel behind him ive stayed. i think its the san louie or somethin.

  • i go to that exact place to go swim hmm...

  • i live in houston damn no power 2 weeks and whole back yard got tore apart and my family went to galvaston after the hurricane damn

  • one thing i'll remember about this hurricane was one of my friends who is currently 22 decided to get his surfboard and go and surf the serge....fucking moron...but! he did it. and came back to to tell the story..still though. fucking idiot.

  • oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

  • Beautiful. I love mother nature, especially when it gives us humans a slap in the face

  • @lDolLlL you dont love it so much when your familiy dies

  • it's so sad seeing all the piers I loved as a kid completely gone, even almost 2 years later.

  • damm dawg my aunt is frm galveston ndwen she seen dis she was glad she wasnt there...

  • ass and titties

  • only in galveston!!

  • i was listing to the song eminem Welcome To Detroit City while wacthing this vid,,, man its crazy! so epic

  • the music makes the video intense! LOL. xD

  • is that a boat at 3:44? if so it probably crashed o_o

  • I was ACTUALLy IN THIS HURRICANE!!!!!!

  • okay jst to let pl kno dat the at g_town also rises at nyte it may not luk lyke it but it does its jst its real calm so plz b carefull at nyte at ANY BEACH u go to

  • Is that a restaurant out there on a dock? Did it get thrashed?

  • The seawall is build on a curvature which is why the water shoots up like it does.

  • lol at 2:21

  • i touched myself to this clip

  • i would love to see some skater try grinding those rails :P

  • I grew up in Galveston and lived there for the first 25 years of my life!!! My family still down there said this was the scariest hurricane they ever lived through!!! Even with the seawall most homes had 3 to 5 feet of water in them!!! I can assure you that video is REAL!!!

  • Some of the best coverage yet! Thanks! I think I'll stick with living in tornado alley.

  • u r an idiot!

  • the reason that you are getting so many things down is because this is not fake. i live 30 mins from here in south houston and believe me this was not fake. why would you think that this was even faked.???

  • @sunofabaker i really really hope ur joking

  • mother nature is a beautiful thing but its horrifying of what it can do

  • pearland is where i live

  • Build the seawall bigger

  • the seawall is already 13ft high

  • ...nature...

  • Idiot Reed has no business being there. This amature chaser puts himself at risk of becoming another victm that simply needs rescue by yours and my tax dollars. What for. for his videos that he wants you to pay for from his web site.

    This is Bull Crap!

  • Actually, Reed isn't an amateur. And from what I've heard his videos don't cost anything...stop being so negative and don't start arguments unless you know what you're talking about.

  • Lol Bravo!

  • eeeww, all that galveston poo water.

  • Oh, and that statue of the man, woman, child, was dedicated September 8,2000 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Great Storm of 1900.

  • And to think, the powers that be in Galveston fought tooth and nail against building that seawall, even after the devastating 1900 storm that killed 6000 people.

  • Me and my girlfriend were there at that statue @ 2:48 just last week... nature is amazing!

  • this is so wered if been thre so much in my life and thats just wered to me i love galveston seeig it like this is crazy

  • hurricanes are great for beachcombers-alot of artifacts are pushed ashore.

  • invest in a tripod

  • this is very scary to watch. Its already been a year since we went through this but its still scary.

  • slovakia is very gooooooooooooooooooooooffdddddddddddddddddddd

  • intense

  • Thank goodness for the giant mole

  • Music + Video = Great!

  • god bless the seawall.

  • @rise54321 it was a good woirre (soldjier)

  • all that seaweed on the street. must've smelled lovely.

  • wheres the surfer?

  • bout 5 feet down about 6 different ways of fucked up

  • insane surf is what the title says. It means basically "Big waves". Not a surfer..

  • I lol'd at the truck waiting for the traffic light at the end of the film. No one was even near and water was gushing all over the place, yet he waited. Brave guy.

  • epic

  • If my memory serves me correctly the eye of the storm did not cross over the island until about 2 a.m. Sept. 13, Saturday. I was in north Houston and we got hit with the winds about 4 am. So this surf was some 10 to 12 hours before it hit.

  • Очень много несчастья и разрушений приносят такие огромные волны и это видно из Вашего видеоролика.

  • Bear in mind this film was shot some 8 to 10 hours before the storm even came ashore. That is what scared me, I figure if the surf looks like this when the storm is still hundreds of miles off the coast, it is going to be HUGE. And it was.

  • That's the same thing I thought... I live and work in Clear Lake which was hard-hit and my boss actually wanted us to come in that Friday... lol For those who don't know, the surf was like this at 6 a.m. on Friday morning.. Ike didn't make landfall until 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning... Almost a year later, I'm still recovering that storm...

  • Wow, sorry to hear that. Well I live on the island and we are pretty much in the same predicament. I work for the school district and they were going to make us work a half day Thurs. I was freaking out. Then at the last minute they closed the schools for Thurs and Fri, literally lives were at stake, we have a school on Bolivar too. I live just yards from that statue, no water. We're uphill kind of on the old WWII bunker, got lucky. Schools are back at capacity this year.

  • I'm glad to hear things are getting back to normal there. I didn't return to Clear Lake.. I do miss the area. After losing so much, I just didn't have the strength to go back. After the storm, all I had left were the things I packed in my car. Everything that was in my apartment, except for a few dishes and some stuff I had in a few SpaceBags (those things actually did keep the water out, just like the commercial says) was ruined. I live in Katy now.

  • So sorry to hear that. Well I can understand how you feel. I just was lucky. Katy is nice, my daughter and her family are there. I think half of Houston has moved there! Great for families.

  • I wonder how long it took these guys to shoot? As you get more into the film you can see how much more intense it gets. Not a good beach day.

  • Prefer the actual sounds of the waves crashing instead of the added music

  • My baby cousins name is Ike.

    ROFLLLLL!!!!

  • That's 61st. pier in the background

  • What a total waste of time for the caterpillar dozer to be scraping the road. Like that helped: NOT

  • lmao at 2:20 i wish a huge wave would just pull him into the ocean rofl

  • that bear has a big butt no offense

  • ahh even though i live in sugarland we got hit hard like hell! we had no power 4 atleast 2weeks!

  • hahaha I live in SUgar Land to and yes we did get hit hard!

  • @joebroshot96

    Yeah same with us.

  • I stayed for the hurricane, we got the weak side of the storm, had a bunch of fun with my uncle and good friend. I live in south Houston rather close to Clear a Lake. We all got very lucky that the hurricane didn't go straight up the ship channel, like it was forcasted to. The damage to Houston would have been much much worse. I have a short clip on my channel, of the day after the hurricane. Its at Nasa Road One right after the Hilton Hotel at the boat ramp.

  • great video this year i'll be watching the hurricanes in gulf of mexico come to my chann and stay tuned.

  • At 2:18 Pause

    Perfect Picture

  • wtf is up with the bear??

  • very nice atmosphere with the statue, epic

  • i was there a couple weeks prior to this ha waters pretty dirty lookin and got stuing by a jelly haha

  • That reminds me. On September the 10th, or 11th (a day before evacuation?), as there was heavy traffic near those homes near Target, but before The Causeway and Omega Bay with Tiki Island...

the water had risen noticeably (but I couldn't tell if that was storm surge), it was about to top the wooden frames.

I wish there was more footage from hurricane ike (before the storm). :( It would be kicking awesome if this video was re-uploaded in 720p HD.

  • the water is not dirty, its just nutrient rich water mixed with stirred up sediment from the Mississippi river.

  • Sitting on that picnic bench was not very smart. The current that runs along the Texas Gulf Coast can take you miles down the coast before you know it, on a normal day. The current that day must have been running at 10 knots.

  • Since you didn't get swept down to VeraCruz, great footage, as usual.

I would suggest the theme from "Victory At Sea" for your next video.

  • i was out there last weekend on galveston island, and everything is just about back up and running. it looks really really good out there.

  • I live here, and everything isn't back to normal quite yet, and the mayor just had a press conference a few weeks ago, and the title of it was "is Galveston worth saving".

Now if we get it by another storm this hurricane season, Galveston is done for =/

  • I used to love to go down there in the summer but now it's all gone!!!!!!! The builders are doing an excellent job trying to get the place back up and everybody that's helping....... GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!

  • So beautiful, yet so powerful at the same time. My heart to those who lost their homes or loved ones...

  • the statue to the survivors of the 1900 storm, man i know that whole seawall well. been surfing all over it

  • yeah that 1900 storm was insane from what ive read, the whole reason there is the sea wall is that storm washed away the beach

  • I live in port bolivar and my neighborhood is gone. Thank god we moved one week before it hit. And I cant get ahold on nobody :( Its so sad that everthing is gone. I loved it there and plan to go back some day. Hell I grew up there

  • man i feel so bad for galveston

  • Yeah. I was in this hurricane but instead I was in Houston, Texas. It still hit us, but no one in my family got hurt, and no one's property was distroyed. Thank goodness.

    :)

  • my house, town, my home os gone. its gone. ike was like someone came and just kicked you out of your house. took your money. then destroyed your town. it sucks. i cant even go to the beach anymore

  • this music makes it more dramatic and puts a tear to my eye. My hometown will never be the same

  • its funny the some people that see this dont know theres a 15 foot wall there

  • i know right. its like a boat port now

  • ike was the worst storm to hit galveston til the next one.

  • Let's pray for a quiet hurricane season this year for us in Galveston.

  • Ugh! That disgusting muddy brown water. As a kid, I can remember there were still days when Galveston Bay was actually BLUE. Granted that was 45-50 years ago, but due to shallowing surf the bay hasn't seen blue water since.

  • It's been blue one time I can remember. Mostly brown. Actually a lot less brown now that most of the beach is gone. More green days lately

  • I haven't gotten the chance to go down there and look, but is the beach back yet? I mean, like at all?

  • they put more sand in

  • every since the hurricane the waters been pretty clean. not to long ago you could se the bottom in about 5 ft of water.

  • ok this is really creepy!

  • this is crazy! makes me feel sad! :(

  • creepy......

  • It's crazy because people that aren't from here don't realize that the sea wall is about 15 to 20 feet tall. Man that storm sucked.

  • It's crazy to think that just a week before this I was there soaking in the rays

  • i love big vwaves lol, its scary and cool:D, exept for tsunami's etc cause they suffered alot. good video guys:D

  • Did y'all see the video of Geraldo getting creamed by one of these waves?

  • Beautiful waves!

  • surfs up

  • actually wikipedia said the surge was 21 feet at landfall. that is cat 4 storm surge and ike was a weak 3 that is so amazing. but in do time we will overcome and we will achieve

  • What the name of the music of this video?! Somebody knows?!

  • Incredible.

  • XAnimeCrazy... I can do all !!!

  • can you do my ass in?

  • Dude, you're so full of bullsh*t

  • Do you talk about it???

  • What?

Dude, you're saying you can stop all tornadoes and hurricanes... Get out of your utopia...

And how would you do that anyway?

you can't stop Mother Nature's will.

  • I live off 91st street near the end of the seawall, it was one WILD night

  • wow that was amazing

  • I live just steps from that statue also. It was dedicated in 2000 to commemorate the lives lost in the 1900 storm, over 6000 perished. There is a water line on an old building in downtown Galveston marking the 1900 storm tide, Ike's was just one foot below it, and we have a 17 foot seawall to protect us now so you can imagine where we'd be without that wall. Please continue to pray for our recovery. Thanks.

  • wtf why is there a bear!?

  • because the bear was going to slay the hurricane

  • that was right in front of my apt complex fort crockett...it actually survived the storm. its crazy to see that shit right at your door step

  • musics gay why put that on ther

  • I was hit by hurricane Ike and Ivan. and there were shinglings going everywhere and my neighbors and i were trying to get everything picked up & what not. its the first time anything like that has hit here in a while, since i'm in ohio. not alot happens here.

  • ohio. well theres a shit loud of snow. hah

  • haha yep. it pays off on christmas. but by februrary we're all like GET HTIS SNOW OVERWITHHH.

  • Global warming is a farce. A political power grabbing scare tactic. Think about it: more population, more people building on the coast = costlier storms in terms of life and property. Also, the news coverage is greater than ever on every front.

  • Great Images! Yeah, I rode it out and did not leave, was raised on the Gulf Coast and was well prepared.

  • its cuz dumbasses like you guys who laugh at global warming and say the skys falling.. fucking morons global warming is real keep ignoring it and see when your kids grow up and they die.

  • Your an idiot. This is the coldest its been in Texas in like 10 years. I suppose it so hot that its cold eh? Besides your bullshit theory has been debunked over and over by scientists from all over the world. Your bullshit global warming is just a scam!

  • ClintJ2009 your the one who is the idiot. Global warming is not a scam stupid. If you look up stuff , like in the papers or on the internet. You can fine out whats happing in some parts of the world today. In so manny years from now, there will be bigger things happing. Yeah it dont seem as much today!..But allready, its starting to grow. Learn of whats goin on in the world, before you start puttin ur 2 cents in about global warming. You sound just like Bush!...A real class F idiot.

  • Stu Ostro,The Weather Channel's leading senior meteorologist, disagrees with the idea that global warming is a soley man made occurance and that more than likely it is a natural phenomena. Are we contributing to the process?Probably.

  • @ClintJ2009 yea its totally normal weather your right.... you fucking idiot

  • Although I live in Houston, I was affected by it. September 12 was my dads birthday so we spent the day boarding up our windows and cleaning the house... fun day. We lost power at about 3am Saturday and didn't get it back until 8pm Sunday. We were the only ones in our neighborhood to get our power back early.

  • i didn't get power till friday

  • can somebody tell me why every year storms around the world seem to get deadlier and deadlier? 5/5

  • the question is "why do people insist on building on the vulnerable shore front?"

and the fact that there are too many people in the world crowding every square inch of the planet whereas before there was more open space where storms could do their thing and not impact humans

  • omg thats how the world gonna look like on the last day..:( its rewally fuckin horrible..!
