So when the director said he would use a fake monkey, they told him not to bother since they considered monkey brain a delicacy and it wasn't a big deal in their culture. There's not a lot of edible plants in the jungle, so I can forgive that. Nothing else, though.

The turtle died quick and apparently the turtle was actually given to tribesman to eat. So it wasn't a completely useless killing. There is worse than this out there and this is nothing compared to the others.
The turtle couldn't feel anything after its head was disconnected from the body. The body processes pain because of neural responses being sent to the via the spinal cord.. obviously the spinal cord was severed so the animal could no longer be in pain. The twitching limbs are a result of independent nerves firing. Kinda like how frog legs twitch when you fry them.
This is possibly the most horrifying thing i have ever seen, and i watch horror movies for a living. This scene not only makes me feel sick, but horrifies me to my very core, the fact that not only were its body parts twitch, but i think the head was still alive!!! The only reason this shocks me is cause it was real, and it is sick, and i hope the creators burn in hell for doing this simply out of entertainment.
To kill or torture an innocent animal for the purpose of entertainment is bad. But to kill an innocent animal for the purpose of survival is another thing.
Then again, I know that this scene is not about real life surviving... and it doesn't entertain me neither.

People say it's okay to kill animals for food but not for "entertainment". Well where's the logic? Because you have to eat to survive? People can survive and be healthy without eating meat, let alone eating nearly as much as they tend to. They eat meat because it is tasty. Good taste=entertainment.

The music makes this even more disturbing than it already is. The thing is its just an animal that they ate for food... but the feeling of the scene is one of malevolence, like the turtle is being raped or something.

Yes, if they were for real in a situation where they were starving, I'd agree with killing a turtle. Carnivores do this, it's a fact of life. But for entertainment, as I said no. If I remember, a snake, 2 monkeys, this turtle, and a spider(I am aware that humans kill myriads of them daily :p) were all killed for entertainment. What do you bet that after this they all had some juice, and later had spaghetti or something, doesn't seem survival esque to me. Poor turtle :( makes me so sad...

That is how a turtle would be killed by a real hunter anyway. it would've been completley in-humane if it's arms and legs were cut off first, then its head. but like i said, be glad that it was killed right then and there, and didn't get tortured...

The film, and others like it routinely show animals killed for the camera, the excuse being that all the animals killed were eaten. It's very unpleasant, but if you eat meat how else do you think you're food gets to the table? And anyway, Bear Grylls does the same thing

No, I'm not an American, I'm Australian, I agree killing things for entertainment is bad, but this scene isn't anywhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. The turtle died quick and apparently the turtle was actually given to tribesman to eat. So it wasn't a completely useless killing. There is worse than this out there and this is nothing compared to the others.

The turtle couldn't feel anything after its head was disconnected from the body. The body processes pain because of neural responses being sent to the via the spinal cord.. obviously the spinal cord was severed so the animal could no longer be in pain. The twitching limbs are a result of independent nerves firing. Kinda like how frog legs twitch when you fry them.

This is possibly the most horrifying thing i have ever seen, and i watch horror movies for a living. This scene not only makes me feel sick, but horrifies me to my very core, the fact that not only were its body parts twitch, but i think the head was still alive!!! The only reason this shocks me is cause it was real, and it is sick, and i hope the creators burn in hell for doing this simply out of entertainment.
