@mtvernonmills While back, a stovemaker Tinny said this kind of stove is a"bomb".Since then, a lot of people saying the same thing. He isn't educated in the sciences,so I'm not surprised he could say such a misleading thing. Pressures r high 4this kind of stove &that pressure can pop a poorly constructed tank, but "explode" from internal combustion is not likely as there is little air in the can 2 oxide enough fuel 2 constitute a bomb. When the jet is up 2 speed, there is no internal air at all.
Dude....If one chip of aluminum or lint or whatever gets caught in that hole you are going to the hospital...It will blow up in your face !! No Joke bro...
@7777dmith7777 If you look closely, it appears he has more than one jet. How are multiple jets, which aren't that small, going to simultaneously clog? If the flame goes out, the guy is smart enough to blow out the driving flame, don't you think?
4 minutes is slow............i can get two cups of cold tap water to a rolling boil in 2 and a half minutes with one fluiod ounce of methylated spirits .......and its safe....you need a flak jacket with this
@soulstar1963 I have a question, if there is 4 cups in a quart and a quart is a little smaller than a liter, how is 4 minutes slow compared to your stove that can boil 2 cups in 2 minutes? I'm curious, what kind of stove design yours? Happy Trails!
@Anothercoilgun Only a fool would even suggest such a stupid thing like carrying it when its lit. Please tell me where i wrote in the comment that i meant carry it when its lit ? I meant i would not have it in my pack due to it being badly made and unsafe.
@fishkiller121 Not really. The pressure inside the can isn't all that high. You can determine that based on applied heat in Joules & the size of the jet. There is no air in the can when it reaches highest pressure, so there is no way the can can "explode" from internal combustion. You would have to shake the can to vaporize the alcohol then pass a match over the hole to internalize combustion. But the explosion will only burn as much fuel as there is available oxidizer inside, which isn't much.
He has more than one hole on top. It is very difficult to achieve a stable flame with this kind of configuration, so I believe he is using tiny angled jets along the top rim to reignite the the larger flame coming from the larger central jet. If you look closesly at the flame, you can occasionally see the angled jets mixing into the larger flame.
(What size of a hole did you use?)
(This type of burner is good for hikers who quickly boil water for dehydrated meals.)
i made the same design years ago.... simply you boil the aolcohol, then light the steam which mike it very powerful.....but, it uses fuel extremely fast. still not very useful.
Most through hikers and ultralight backpackers like to just boil a quick cup or two of water then cozy a meal. This type of stove is a godsend to them. I haven't checked the efficiency of the burner, but the jet is fast enough to suck in a lot of air to meet quick supply of the steaming fuel vapors. Boiling the fuel and not having a fast jet will soot your pot and waste a lot of fuel.
Excellent video. There are several Japanese videos where the person doesn't talk--and that's irritating. I get the idea from what you say and demonstrate. Thank you for your excellent narration.
that is deffinetly more powerfull but by no means practical , I would like to see you stick a pot on it .this is pretty cool actually pretty sweet just not safe

Nice. I use something similar to this to cook large pots of food/water, but mine has more holes to allow the vapor to escape and is a side burner.

Good demonstration. A bit dangerous though.
Normally there are between 6 and 9 escape holes along the top rim circumference . Less pressure but still very hot.
