I think what we have in this video is very similar, I think it's hard for people without winter experience to grasp just how slippery a road can get given the right circumstances. You did well to note that even standing on a road with normal shoes can prove to be a challenge!

@KoivuTheHab It was on the northwest part of Lapland, and the worst places were in Kittilä and Kolari. If that ice had stayed on those roads till the next day, there would have been chaos on the roads. The temperature stayed below zero for six hours, 23-05, after that the ice was gone pretty quick. In that time there is hardly no-one on the streets, but still there was atleast 4 minor crashes. Even a fire truck had problems with accelerating, because it just didn't have any traction at all. :D

But as you can see it isn't a problem with driving skills, there is at least 50-60 meters of extremely slippery road there and it just doesn't bite on plain rubber, the video shows clearly that the vehicles will not slow down on this surface, there is no traction. I agree Russians do not know how to drive cars, but this has nothing to do with that problem.

@StopLookiing You use studded tires just like we do in Finland. However I would claim that the conditions in the video are extraordinary, there is a difference between extremely slippery and black ice. There is NO traction at ALL with a rubber tire, that is quite rare...

It was raining in the day, and then the temperature dropped below zero and that water froze and then it started snowing, and some of that snow melted down on top of that ice. It was really hard to even stand on the road. We had a few minor crashes, but because it was 11 pm when the snowfall started, the worst situation was after midnight and there wasn't a lot of traffic. It was like endless sliding and drifting :D
