have you ever seen how congested cities like london, paris, and tokyo are? a toyota iq makes sense there, but nowhere else. i live in new jersey, and i constantly see smart cars on the parkway, and i have no idea why. cars like that should never leave the city limits.

not everyone is fat and requires hulking vehicles to carry their obese families. some of us rather have a smaller carbon footprint while also enjoying the handling benefits of smaller cars.

hahahaha, I can agree to that. Small cars are just easier to drive through cities, easier to park, and don't require a fill up every 200 miles. But SUVs also come in real good handy when you're going off road or taking a bunch of friends and their bikes to the trails :)

Well, being a 2006 Mazda3 owner in Texas I'll give you my logic.

For $18,000 the 2.3 liter S has 20-ish more horsepower than the Civic or Corolla, is pretty fun to drive with a manual, and doesn't look too shabby.

Also because the driving habits of north americans, we're generally fast drivers and need something that's fun to drive. Mazda fills that fairly well, plus you can't argue with the standard features it has, HID headlights, Bose sound system, etc.
