@Volcomskater9999 They do offer a 3 disc set with a driver, mid range, and putter at discraft (on amazon) for 30 bucks (so discounted by about 33% from buying each individually) that are high quality and recommended for beginners (easy to control). I just ordered it myself.
@Volcomskater9999 Google discraft misprint deal. You get a random selection of discs but you do get to choose the plastic. Almost all my discraft discs I've gotten this way.
I would like to have seen more throws and putts so you can see the entire flight path of the discs. Mostly from Mark Ellis. But otherwise, a good video. And I'm starting to like the Rattler!
This video is awesome, though just a question or two:
Don't you have to be touching the ground when you release the throw? Or are they releasing before the jump? Also, doesn't jumping run the risk of having a falling putt if you jump forward?
besides the shaking hands with the basket, I have also heard you can pretend there is a piece of string from where you're aiming at the basket to your hand, and then to imagine that string is pulling your hand. This basically helps with aiming or finding the right line
i imagine that i'm, in mission impossible and there is a laser pointing at me from the basket and i have a diamond coated anti laser shield on my right index finger tip and i need to deflect the laser with it to save the world.
This is the first video i've seen where someone putts perpendicular to the basket. I've been doing it since i started and have never seen anyone else do it that way. Putting perpendicular really gives you more power and less body movement than the jump putt and overall less chance for error. The only trick is just getting the muscle memory down.
lol this is so kool iv just come across disc golf recently, i play a lot of ball golf and love the game but im nervous im going to start liking this more lol.
Some of the jump putts shown I would consider illegal throws because the disc leaves the hand when the player is up in the air. It's very hard to tell though.
(1) Have at least one supporting point that is in contact with the playing surface on the line of play and within 30 centimeters directly behind the marker disc
So you cannot be "in the air" when the disc is released.
Ok, nobody jumps then releases the disc...that would defeat the whole purpose of the jump putt which is to get more distance. You can think of it the same way as in basketball. You can get a lot more distance if you jump and throw at the same time, however a true jump shot takes a lot of power out of the shot.
I went to Phoenix, AZ and went out to play and ended up playing with Paul Ulibarri. He is a Buzz master! We talked about this video and he says it was embarassing. lol
Your videos are fnatatic. the one on throwing side arm has doubled my range and my accuracy with those shots, and now can drive either way. . also has given me MUCH more range for long mid-range shots. . thanks so much.
I'm just curious. Is the jump putt something new? I used to play a long time ago. I would jump putt about 50% of the time then. It seemed natural to float in like that. I used my San Mateo mold Shark almost exclusively but that Rattler looks like it can pull off the air-bounce so it probably floats down pretty straight, right?
The jump putt has been around for about as long as the falling putt rule has been in effect. This rule states that if you are inside of 10 meters of the basket(roughly 30 feet) you cannot step past your lie until your disc hits the ground or lands in the basket. Jump putting is just a way to get extra power on your putts outside of 30 or so feet.
That is an incorrect statement now. In the circle, you must "show balance". It doesn't matter if your disc is resting in the basket or not. It could be resting but if you fall forward even after several seconds, it is a falling putt.
Another good tip for putting is not to use different types of putters. Just find one that suits you and stick with it. I've been using Discraft APX Swirls for about 3 years and haven't changed. I make 20-25 footers pretty consistently.
I guess the mentality from 100 feet for most people should be to park the approach rather than run at the chains. I've only been playing for a couple months, but I can't tell you how many times I've been 50-100 feet out, tried to make it, and left myself a good 30 feet back to the basket. I did make 1 90 foot shot the other day. But 1 in 2 months?
They mention a few tips that would benefit you. People often wind up 30' back of the basket because they're trying to line-drive the disc into the chains. When they miss, the disc sails on by. Instead, you need to arch your disc above the basket and allow the disc to fall into it. If you miss, the disc should fall right around the basket. Milne has a fantastic mental tip: imagine an object between you and the basket and then attempt to shoot over that object and into the chains.
Absolutely, rtcj. I've got to imagine that, for most recreational players, even pretty good ones, if you take a run at the basket, you'll end up three-putting a 100 foot shot more often than you make it. When I'm playing for fun, I'll go for the basket from that distance, but when I'm playing for money, I'm HAPPY to lay it up and let them try to make theirs.
I'm pretty sure my state Iowa has the 3rd most courses in the nation (and growing) I play disc everyday. I use Discraft disc. Well, execpt my ROC for driving!!

renewest65 4 years ago 3
sorry Rene but that is legal.
They are outside the 10 meters and aslong the disc is out of their hands before their foot hits the ground,it is a legal throw.
pdga3791 4 years ago
Rule 803.04:
When the disc is released, a player must:
(1) Have at least one supporting point that is in contact with the playing surface on the line of play and within 30 centimeters directly behind the marker disc
So you cannot be "in the air" when the disc is released.
renewest65 4 years ago
very true rene
bkr1212 4 years ago
my only concern with that is the rule is stance, subsequent to teeing off. it says nothing about putts or upshots.
boojew06 3 years ago
You may consider them illegal but the PDGA does not.
