  • THANK YOU $ POSTING THIS !

  • I wish we could be like back then!!! It just looks sooooo fun and nice and sweet!

Not like now when all u c is bad news, rascism, violence and hardly no love! I would of loved to of been around back in those days! :(

  • john frusciante.. anyone?

  • 1 of the original rock ballads w/ heart.

  • WOW! WOW! WOW! My mother used to sing this around the house! Thank you GNRSlashLover for uploading this. I'm going to play it for my mother this weekend.

  • Is there anyway we could get a blurrier version of this video? JK:)

What a song and vocalists. One of the all time greatest hits.

  • @Luray101 I wish!

  • @Luray101 You could try wearing a pair of someone else's reading glasses that have been soaped up with shaving cream. This is a great song - gotta find a better version if only audio which is not too terrific in this one either.

  • Arlene Smith has such a beautiful voice and if you watched the PBS oldies shows, she still has it. Just wish todays "stars" would sing and not scream or holler. Glad I was a teenager in the 50's and early 60's as we might have been the last generation to have a great time with cheap gas and muscle cars.

  • If you were a teen during the 50s I would love to read your stories of how it was like living in the 50s. Thanks

  • @rosamedina18 Smokes rolled up in a T's sleeve, Leather motorcycle jackets, "DA" haircuts=bad boys, yet respect for girls. Cars wore porta-wall white walls and were raised (west coast) or lowered, some were chopped and most were mooned and decked. Loud exhaust pipes were in with glass packs or steel packs. The jitter bug was a fast dance that most guys didn't do. Drive-in movies and drive in restaurants with car hops were common. Good boys wore button down shirts and had flat top hair cuts.

  • crazy lovers tune! now I understand baby boom era!!!

  • One of the greatest songs to come out of the pop era. Many people have recorded this, but the Chantels leave the others in the dust!

  • Beautiful song. I've been wanting to see videos of the old groups even if the quality isn't so good. Please post more. Thanx

  • Great song n great video

  • The original female doowop group!!!

  • My God what a voice, this is beautiful. Thanks so much for putting this up. Rock and Roll forever.

  • A Classic. Probably my most favorite dance tune at the time.

  • I remember seeing this on a "fishbowl size" black and white TV....

  • But, instead

    You came to me

    Only in my dreams.

at least i still have the dreams...

  • love

  • AWSOME..

  • what a voice. amazing.

  • I don't know Dick Clark won't put these clips on DVD. he would sho' nuff get my money.

  • Mafia 2

  • Get me a time machine !! imagine being around when this was released, man that would do me !!

  • 1st time i ever heard this ....awesome !!

  • Maybe is,maybe, one of the greatest R&R songs ever recorded.Arlene Smith's voice is the best female singer ever.I listened to this cut when it came out,and it is on my I-Pod now Thanks,Arlene.

  • 41,020 views (so far), and absolutely NO dislikes... absolute, unconditional proof that we... NEED... more singers (and beautiful... MEMORABLE songs) like these!!!

  • I heard on a radio show back in the 1980's that the lead singer was only 15.

  • @49kasey wow, that's amazing. There are 30 year olds present day that don't have that much vocal ability.

  • john frusciante.

  • @lillieinwonderland John who?

  • Don't get no better than this!

  • wonderful!!

  • Has arlene passed away??????

I heard she had, a few months ago.

    Loved Her great Voice.

  • The gurl can saaaaaang.

  • one of those "perfect" songs that has to be played evrey so often to remind me of what truly great music sounds like - thanks for posting

  • A great post of times gone by. Thank you very much. Only one negative and that Dick Clark say's "I'll see you back stage in a little while" What ,he coudn't give them the respect and interview them on camera?I remember a big uproar when Frankie Lymon danced with a white girl on TV. We have come along way ,thank God.

  • Arlenes Voice Is Beyond Words!!

  • sounds like they are lip synching. Still great to see though.

  • @BeckoffShow Yes, Bandstand rarely, if ever had live performances

  • The girls had a wonderful run before the demise of the GIRL GROUP of the mid 1960s. This was THE record to have at the parties my oldest sister had in the late 50s.

  • thumbs up if you came from john frusciante!!

  • I am one who listen to Lyrics and melodies profusely. And i must say the 50's era stands out amongst them all .When listening to the music of current and previous generation. Hands down the last of the innocence Began and ended with the 50's , I'm just saying tho .

    From TheOGT169

  • Awesome...I've never seen them perform this live. Thanks for the upload.

  • @GNRSlashLover....fantastic....I interviewed them all in the early 90's for a long article that ended up not running in The Village Voice...Jackie Landry took me to the school church where they use to have choir practice and where they formed The Chantels....they are not only great singers they are great people too (although Jackie unfortunately passed a way a few years ago)

  • the first clip I've ever seen of The Chantels in their original incarnation; before I know I thought there weren't any!!....thanks for posting!

and if there is a clip of the next incarnation doing "Look In My Eyes", hope someone can post that...

  • @rfgrass I am searching for more videos of the Chantels.

  • @GNRSlashLover Hope you can find some. I really like the stuff you post

  • @GNRSlashLover Lawd have mercy where did you get this??? Love it. I love it!!! I never saw a clip of The Chantels.

  • @rfgrass That's not the full group. They were a quintet. One of them is missing here.

  • I always wanted to see a video of the Chantels. I love all their songs.

  • Frusciante's cover brought me here!

  • Still around and going strong . Saw them many times

  • just great

  • My favorite girl group of all time. Arlene could really sing and still can. She is so nice. A few years ago on my birthday she called me on the phone to say Happy Birthday. I had only met her twice. This was a shock but felt good.

  • Beautiful song. What a voice!

  • wow she was so thin..

  • @supermanchu: Would love to see the Bandstand "Look In My Eyes." Different lead singer on that cut (1961), Arlene Smith had left the group by then and their producer used a lead (Annette Smith, I'm pretty sure her name was) from another girl group he had. Still a great doo-wop sound, though.

  • @rnross This is just pure talent, no need for all of this silly overdone gyrating that todays artist do in order to cover up for their like of talent. Beyonce, Madonna, Janet Jackson and a long list of others would do themselves a great favor by studying these legends of this wonderful bygone era.

  • Drama, crinoline and more crinoline. Beautiful voices.

  • Saw Arlene Smith on TV on a doo-wop reunion show and she was excellent when the group got together that one night after many years. They were great!

  • Incredable! This was the year I started watching "Bandstand".

Watching Arlene Sing I'm that kid again, running home from school

to watch "Bandstand".....What a voice. Gives me Chills.

  • THE "ONLY" FEMALE D-O-O-W-O-P GROUP EVER! THANK YOU FOR THE TREAT,TOM D. BRICK,NJ. {AT THE SHORE}.

  • Sublime perfection.

  • dick clark owns all videos from bandstand and beechnut shows, he refuses to share, maybe when he croaks the family will release all the great stuff

  • @dagosliv Lol, that's really selfish of him!

  • @GNRSlashLover No, but there's a method to his madness. In the 1950's, a "Friend" used him and Sold Tapes to people and said that in order to do Bandstand, they had to Pay Him. It wasn't true but he like Alan Freed were accused of dong Payola and although he was acquitted of the charges when they found out he didn't do it but he lost 8 Million Dollars. From that moment on, he has a major trust issue with people.

  • @GNRSlashLover I would give my right arm for a DVD collection of all the Bandstands before 1973

  • @dagosliv you gotta take the sweet with the sour.Dick Clark did so much for R&R and he was smart.i would like to see more archival footage but who didn't watch American Bandstand?thanks Dick!

  • @dagosliv dont ever talk shit about dick clark

  • @dagosliv

    What a 'Dick'.

  • Thank you

  • this is music .....period thank you chantels

  • @laminage : There were five Chantels : Arlene Smith, Lois Harris Powell, Sonia Goring Wilson, Renee Minus White and Jackie Landry Jackson (died from breast cancer in 1997.) Arlene Smith does not sing with the group any more and the newest member of the goup is Noemi "Ami" Ortiz who sings lead.

  • I;m telling you. Every Girl Group in the Future should look at these Ladies and see what Talent is really all about. They really did kick the door open for so many. I heard in a Documentary about The Girl Group Phenomenon from the 1960's that Darlene Love wanted to meet Arlene Smith saying "She's Got A Voice On Her!" I also heard that The Supremes were also influenced by them. However, I have Their CD of their Greatest Hits from Rhino and weren't there Five Girls and not Four?

  • oh yeah great song and awesome vocals

great video thank you very much GNRSlashLover

  • Thank You, Thank You For This Beautiful Song Showing These

    Ladies, Featuring Arlene Smith!!

    Chills.................

  • one of the ten prettiest voices of all time - never get tired of listening to this classic !!

  • Wow! like a time machine from another world. Even though it's pretty low fi, it is so wonderful to see this, thanks!

  • never thoaght id see em do it live!!!

  • awesome post!!!

  • amazing oh n btw theres footage of them performing look into my eyes on bandstand too

  • I love this song. It's so beautiful and so is the lead singers voice.

Thank you for posting this rare video..

  • I don't know where you're getting this stuff but PLEASE keep it coming
