I am not a Malayalee but stayed in Kerala for some years for my study. After I left Kerala, I miss it almost every moment. Its scenic beauty, its food, its simple people, rich movies and music. Three things I did not like about the state: the real women empowerment has a long way to go (despite high female literacy; male chauvinism was very much visible ), it's politics and males' too much love for alcohol. Of course, these are my perception. I may be wrong but these are what I felt.

Kerala is a big lunatic asylum as declared by Swami Vivekananda, with barefooted mallus running half naked in lungis showing balls, spitting in public and peeing on walls. In Kovalam I was staying at the Manaltheeram hotel who defauded me of appoximately £1,000.

It's a scam whereby they cash a credit card deposit despite you paying in full. They rely on you not having the will to fight it once you get home and won't answer any e;mail

Great. 1000 BP is too big amount to be duped. Such people should not be allowed to go free and trick people. I had a similar experience in Chennai where the receptionist didn't want to return $100 expecting that amount as a tip. Fortunately, his supervisor heard the commotion and intervened.

Yes, I'm sorry to have to do this. We too have friends who are Keralites but the fact is that the MANALTHERAM deliberately defrauded us of £990. Subash the hotel manager had a part in it but no one from the hotel group would reply to our correspondence.

The case is still with the UK Financial Ombudsman and we are hopeful that they will force Barclaycard to do the right thing.

Manaltheeram IS a big hotel!! and it's part of a chain which is why we chose it!

You have to use a credit card to place a reservation but the key lesson it to always settle the final bill with the SAME credit card, if the say there is a problem with it then you suggestion of settling the balance with cash would probably be the best. as we had used two different credit cards they would not co operate with each other on the fraud and it had to go to the ombudsman.

dear sir ,i live in us and the same thing happened to me here. i did some auto works in a local workshop and gave my credit card. they said the card is not going through .eventhough i know the card is good ,i gave them cash and settled the issue. but they had charged me twice with the card also. i took me almost an year to settle the matter with i am ending at losing side.this things happen and i dont know whether there is anything to do with the society in general for that. you are one luckyguy

That is just appalling, I'm sorry that you have lost out. I can only think that the way forward in future is to pay either by cash or traveller's cheques.

The other alternative is to never vist Kerala again and warn others and this is what we shall be doing.

i mean, this thing happened to me here in us. as a keralite i am sorry for your bad experience in kerala. yes there is cheaters there and they r bringing a bad name to the state. i know many of the ayurvedic massage centers are fake and run by frauds. but please don't hate kerala. i am sure you will find few things to appreciate there. good luck sir.

You may say that Kerala is a lunatic asylum, personally we found it to be fine. All I would say is that if you are unfortunate enough to stay at the Manaltheram you will need a shed load of the Ayruvedic shit to alleviate the stress that the thieving cunts put you through!

What depresses me is that in the UK we appear to be no better!! Barclaycard, HSBC, Financial Ombudsman............17 months to sort out a very straight forward query. IMO they are worse than the fraudulent Manaltheram !
