does anyone have or can they post the match for the WWWF title between Putski against then champion Superstar Billy Graham ?.The crowd noise from ivan putski delivering the polish hammer was unbelievable & the psychology of the match was perfect.
Re the announcer, Marty O'Neil...he grew up in the Twin Cities area, and was a superb baseball player in his youth and teen years. However, major league scouts - although impressed with his ability - thought he was too short for the bigs. O'Neill then turned his attention to journalism and sportswriting, and his columns were a favorite. He eventually went to television, and ended up the announcer on All-Star wrestling. He was a favorite of Vern Gagne, Bud Grant, and other sports notables.
olschool-i knew dick in the 60sand early 70s.didnt see or him from here for years after that.he wasnt real fond of ed farhat.they had a business relationship and dick was a good worker.as far as hogan went,i dont think we ever discussed this.last time i spoke with him was around 1998 or so.it never came up.dick was a great guy, cheap but fun!
Putski's wrestling attire is HIDEOUS! I wouldn't be surprised if the fashion-conscious SuperStar Billy Graham refused to work with him in that get-up again!
putski s real name is joe bednarski.igors real name was dick garza.he was a friend of mine.dick was incredibly strong.maybe the strongest person i ve ever met.putski was a powerlifter turned bodybuilder.dick was a bodybuilder turned wrestler
I remember seeing this live on WTCN...after the attack, Marty O'Neil interviewed Superstar and demanded an explanation for his actions. Graham pleaded innocence, claiming he intended to jump on Putski's stomach, but Putski moved, and Graham accidentally landed on his neck. It was hysterical...
@mabood1212 Chris Taylor was an Olympic bronze medalist in the '72 games in Munich and probably the most dominant college heavyweight I'd ever seen for Iowa State...he was a two time NCAA champion...
@mabood1212 Taylor was a NCAA national champion at Iowa State (this was before there was a weight limit in the heavyweight division in the amateur ranks). Was a bronze medalist at the 1972 Olympics. He only lasted about 3-4 years in the pros
It's amazing how many times they used this angle. I know they did it with Pepper Gomez and Ray Stevens, and I'm sure they used it more that that. Also, it's amazing how different Ivan looks here than his WWF days. Kinda like Scott Steiner.

Ivan was just a cheap copy of the Might Igor. Igor was 5' 10" and weighed in around 288 pounds and putski was a mere 5'7" and maybe 255 pounds.

Thanks for posting! I'm guessing this angle set up a tag match between Putski-Taylor and Von Raschke-Graham?
