  • Song is great surely, it is sad tho, that the version at Tom & Jerry - Solid Serenade is much better with basses. There is a good upswing tempo version of this by Bing Crosby and Andrews Sisters. It would be a dream if that version was along with Tom & Jerry versions basses and the vinyl noise of your record \o/

  • wow I didn't know that this was the song used in that Tom and Jerry short! :D

This made me very happy!!!!! :D

    time for a solid serenade!

  • thanks for posting this video!! It is good to know that still good music out there! (:

  • to be hinest i heard this song from tom and jerry so i was wondering were it came from

  • Always nice to get a "solid serenade" on YouTube.

  • WOW! Now that's what I call hard to find vinyl! Even more a turntable that has 78rpm!

  • Great song thanks.

  • i had the mp3 version of this song but i kinda like this old record sound

  • I love the original, natural sound of the vinyl noise. Good song. Awesomeness stamp!

  • Is this a 4HF?

  • i love this song.lol.the greatest song of 1943

  • amazing because there's so little crackles, pops and hisses! since the record is 66 years old! even my 20 something year-old records sound like zombie's fart!

  • is that a 78? you bought from eBay?

  • @ConfusedSponge I rarely buy records from Ebay. Mine come from local garage/estate sales and Craigslist. Many thousands of these old records are still out there if you do a little searching.

  • This is way cool! Do you know anything about the version in the Tom & Jerry cartoon? I'm dying to get it on a 78!! I was told Louis Jordan is the artist so I was hoping.. thanks!

  • SwingMan1937 you lucky duck! What a treat to hear this wonderful crystal clear tune! You know, it is beautiful music such as this that never tires and I still don't get why young folks nowadays listen to that crap they call music! Music...fah! Its noise! No, I'm talking about good standard easy music such as Bing Crosby, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller! I know I was not around to hear these wonderful sounds but, we're blessed that we can still hear the classics we desire to hear!

  • im 18, and I (and some of my friends) enjoy listening to artists like glenn miller and louis jordan, but at the same time, we listen to new songs, too.

not all "young folks" are idiots, but yes, a good chunk of us are :-)

  • i truly agree with ya there!

  • My copy of this 78, while play wear is little and the sound is crisp, looked like it'd been lightly dusted with 30 grain sandpaper. Hiss is minimal and the grooves are Grand Canyon deep, but listening to my copy makes you think someone threw a handful of popcorn in an open griddle. LOL!

    Nice copy.

  • I use an old mono cartridge that only picks up the side to side stylus movement. It sounds like you have stereo cartridge that also picks up the up and down movements of the stylus.

  • Sure, that may be it (I've bridged my Grado 78 E cartridge to mono), but my 78 still looks like it was stamped on a bit in a gravel driveway. ;)

BTW, I meant to say this earlier - nice turntable brand choice. Mine is also a Garrard - an AT-60 4-speed, circa 1966. Picked it up off of ebay in 1998 & it's the best table I've had yet.

  • Sounds better than on my CD. :)
