The game designers who made this where incredibly creative. There was no way to do color at the time, so they put colored gels under the glass so that it would give the illusion of color. Thats why, if you look closely, the bullet goes from green, to white, to red, because its passing under the colored gels.

It's ironic that back in the 80's I loved to play arcade video games, especially Space Invaders. But now I don't even think about the old arcade room or games like this anymore. Weird.
