i pretty much have the same problem. i have an underbite, i guess. my teeth hit straight on instead of going over a little. so i gotta get spacers, then the one retainer thing where you have to turn it with the key, and then braces. plus maybe a reverse-pull headgear at night. great right? i haven't gotten it yet, but you know. i will. in january.

I forgot to add, the reason he wants to use headgear (along with elastics) is because one my top front teeth are aligned (they currently crooked and tilt inwards) I will have an 'overjet' and to correct that I will need to have headgear... but not sure this works with adults. What is your reason for needing headgear? and has it been successful so far?, if you don't mind me asking

Hi TrueBlueAustralian. So u're having to wear headgear! I am 24 and had a consultation yesterday for a brace,he said I will have to use elastics & possibly headgear,which I am fine with.But someone has told me that headgear only works for growing teens and not adults! So now I have a doubt in my mind about the Orthos treatment plan (I have read that adults normally have headgear to sort out extraction gaps - but I wont be having any extractions). I'm confused now!

You remind me of myself, the day I got my braces which was August 21, 1995 and I was 14 then and I got spacers, a palate expander and a headgear along with my braces on the same day I got them too. I was signed up for them on August 4, 8 and 14, 1995 and I was 14 then too and I had my braces and headgear for 2 years and my spacers until August 24, 1995 and my palate expander until April 14, 1996 and I was 14 and a half then and I got my braces taken off on September 17, 1997 and I was 16 then.

Is the expander working for you without surgery? So many dentist say that you have to surgery after age 15 to get the expander to work and some dentist say that you don't. Did the dentist discuss this with you?

@gjnn Hi :) yes but it has to be turned very slowly every couple of days a quater of a turn i find works best other wise too much pain.. i think it also has to depend on how much you need moved.

The two front teeth was not straight, but now they are in line and straighten up,

The teeth below are also in line, and after I am done, they will be bleached and filed down a bit to get the perfect result ;)

Why do you have to have the head gear thing? I didn't think they used those anymore. I had all the other stuff though, I had the expander for about 18 months then they took it out then I got my braces fitted. I had mine on about 9 years ago though, back then they put all those little things in 1 by 1. The stupid women who took them off, slipped several times leaving huge gouges in my teeth, so I now have lines on my teeth, which food gets stuck in and it doesn't come out, it looks horrible :(

Yeah the silly cow just laughed it off, I was really angry but only being 17 at the time didn't say anything. After going to the dentist every 6 weeks for over 5 years, I haven't been back to the dentist since the braces were taken off 6 years ago. I really should go again soon. For some silly reason though the dentist gives me panic attacks.
