Well to tell you the truth...it really is a religious holiday. If it were just a custom, then people would be allowed to tell each other Merry Christmas without having to worry about being politically correct.
while that has nothing to do with this holiday, Christmas is traditionally the day that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, although we have turned it into something a bit more commercialized.
So when I celebrate Christmas, I'm no longer celebrating the birth of Jesus? Just because we have transformed the holiday traditions doesn't change its meaning.
eh...your talking to an atheist. ANd maybe you celebrate Jesus...but a lot probably do not. Or else it would not be allowed in government institutions and or schools.
In order to change the seperation of church and state and, yet continue American traditions, I would think that meanings would change between A tradition and a religious deal.
Plus what does Santa have anything to do with the birth of Jesus Christ?
Didn't you just prove that its a religious celebration? If it weren't, then wouldn't it be allowed in schools and government institutions?
And as for Santa, he's just a figure that we have tacked onto the Christmas celebration; there are many accounts of persons named Nicholaus that would give gifts to children on Christmas, and they have just stuck with the holiday.
Santa is St. Nicholas who obviously, brought toys to kids because he was insanely rich i think. Not really something to do directly with Jesus, but we throw it in there just for tradition.

LoL, Chocolate Santa!
Just because they were gonna have a black guy play santa doesn't mean that they have to emphasize it by calling him that.

thus it is not a "religious holiday" anymore. It is a commercialized American custom

YEah I've heard that St Nick story...IDK about now but X-MAS used to be celebrated in schools. I see it more of a tradition.
