  • Holy keeeeee-riiiyyyst!

  • If I could choose a couple guys to hang out with, drink a cool one, and swap some stories, Mssrs. Bresh & Emmanuel are my pick. There may be better players somewhere in the world (doubtful) but these guys are full of character, enthusiasm, and fun, big personality, and regular ol' down-home charm. Gods gifts to the guitar and the world.

  • Tommy's been this good since he was very young-I saw him do this same piece 40 years ago on tv-he was about 16 years old-it sounded this good then.

  • my head just exploded.

  • thom bought your dvd forever changed my playing merle travis is an icon to every guitar player glad you carried on his legacy tks from steve new brunswick canada

  • And at the end about 1:58 the camera changes exactly when they shake hands.

Before the camera change Tommy has his left hand on the body of the guitar and after the change his left hand grabs the neck. Without any time is elapsed!

    Is there something wrong?

And there is an other thing I sad in my comment before.

  • @marv20048 LoL as if Tommy needed time to put his hand anywhere around the guitar ...

    ;-P

  • Is there anything wrong with the camera?

It looks like that Tommy put his Guitar on the other leg, everytime the Camera changes.?!

  • Damn Thom, that's smokin!!

    Thanks for posting....

  • TnT! Great stuff Thom. Thanks for posting these great clips.

  • The more I look, the better stuff I find. Thanks for posting this absolute jewel!

  • I love finger picking Thom is great, Tommy is great.

I like to watch Tommy, he is truly a kid in a candy store he love it play music and he can't help but show it.

Merle Travis pretty much invented this style not called Travis piking for nothing.

Thom is just as innovative as his Father, I saw him in concert.

I saw him in concert many moons ago,he played his fathers guitar.

I still laugh I can see the sign I think it said the bastard son of Merle Travis he looks like Merle played like him too

  • There are only 2 people in the whole world that can play that song ike that and you just heard them do it.

  • Thom and Tommy are great together, but I will always prefer Thomas and Buster B.

  • gives me goosebumps

  • This seriously rocks

  • Tommy's break between 0:44 and the 1 minute mark is just insane!!!!

  • two best guitar players in the world..........

  • what are the chords between about 41 and 44 seconds, if anyone knows?

  • type into google "tabok" the very first one should be tommyemmanuel.wordpress

go to that, you'll find the tabs for this song and many others in pdf format

  • C, C#°, G/D, E7/B, A7/Bb, D7/A, G. :-)

  • Actually, the A7/Bb looks like it has a b5 in it. This would be the same chord as an Eb7/Bb, but it functions as an A7 rather than a Eb7. Just a tritone substitution.

  • Hello,

You two guys are amazing!!! My most absolutely favourite version. So much groovy, I can listen it all day ;) Great job, Thom & Tommy

  • very good video

    rob ree

    terry rees son-

    williams and ree

  • I hope someday I can catch a show of thom and or Tommy

  • What on earth is Mr. Thom's guitar?!?!?!?

  • You know, I have never given that any thought. When you asked this question I googled a bunch of Brian Setzer's pictures. I can see where you could find a resemblance. But there is only about 4 yrs difference in the two, so be careful in your wording. Tommy is sensitive.. lol..

  • Is it just me or does Tommy Emmanuel look like an older Brian Setzer? :)

  • "yh he flips it around and there is a whole other guitar, pointless but brilliant!"

Not really pointless, actually. One side can be strung using Nylon or Baritone strings, so should you be performing a piece which requires, say, some Nylon intricacies in the intro and some Steel-Strung pounding in another section - or an altered tuning - it would be far more practical to have both string configurations afforded on the single instrument rather than being faced with a guitar change mid-song!

  • "This is not a pissing contest, it is two friends playing their guitars.. Get a life.."

Brilliant. I'm a huge Tommy devotee and I'm just discovering Thom Bresh (the shame of it!), but there is no competition in art - it's an expression of your inner being. If you want competition, perhaps take up the long jump.

  • great

  • Tommy's face at 1:21 is priceless just after Thom pulls off that amazing lick!

  • Awesome!

  • I Believe you mean "Tommy Emmanuel & Thom Bresh". Nobody beats Tommy at guitar.

  • No, I meant Thom Bresh and Tommy Emmanuel. This is a "Bresh" site and "B" comes before "E".

This is not a pissing contest, it is two friends playing their guitars.. Get a life..

  • haha, it's really amazing, you go to any guitar vid and there's always 100 idiots who are like "A blows away B" etc. Do these idiots really think professional guitarists (or any pro musician) sit around thinking/worrying/bitching about who is "better" or who "beats" them or who they "beat?"

  • @bigdjindustriez Tommy is great but not the best. Thom is a more steady player and Tommy tends to rush. And if you talk speed Buster B would kill him. Tommy is a wonderful talent and great musician, but Its not competition and there is no winner.

  • @iommi13 Tommy is way better. Have a listen to "the hunt"

  • What's up with Thom's guitar? Extra neck? haha

  • yh he flips it around and there is a whole other guitar, pointless but brilliant!

  • dualete

  • That's Bluegrass, one faster than the other. Great!!!

  • Great!!

I wanted to go for this live broadcasting!

  • Why this is so good is because Tommy is the kind of player that allows a player like Thom, who plays in perfect time, play in perfect time!

You get someone who plays too fast and the other has to rush to help cover the timing mistakes... otherwise, one person in time just accentuates the odd-ball one!

  • and here i was thinking i was the shit playing a slow version of autmn leaves

  • FENOMENALE DUETTO!!!!

  • this reminds me of one of dadi marcel songs

  • Way too much talent in one room! Dayum........

  • Awesome, two of the best together, super

  • This is one and two real musicians!!! Great stuff!!

  • This is Gold!

  • What is that dual-sided guitar Thom is playing?!?!

  • The two sided guitar is called the "Super Dualette" made by Del Langejans of Holland, MI. Steel string on one side and baritone guitar on the other. Both sides can hit all of the Roland synth gear.

  • Two of the worlds best! I watched an old video of Thom and Merle playing in a living room somewhere, and that was pretty cool - great guitarists, inspiring for sure!

  • Two of the world's best. Period.

  • Amen.

  • truly amazing, hat's off too both (and to Chet Atkins who made this fingerpicking diet digestable in the first place).

  • well "hats off" to Merle Travis who wrote this song and was doing it long before Chet (great as he is)! :-)

  • It might interest you to know that Thom Bresh is, actually, Merle Travis' biological son.

  • Why doesn't hold the "Travis" name?

  • Mr. Bresh raised him after Travis and his mother separated and Thom says he didn't want to slight the one that was a real father to him. Possible Travis abused his mother, from what biographical material I've seen.

  • Oops, I meant to say, why doesn't HE hold the "Travis" name?

  • Players like SRV or TE wouldn't even have that discussion. They'd be busy having fun playing music, better than us! If you don't get the point, too bad for you.

  • Thom, thanks for posting this. I love it. Hope all is well with you. Post some more, great stuff!!

  • Hahahahaha well said XTWBMU. now, i said Marry Had A Little Lamb was best left to Stevie Ray Vaughan... go look the video up and see what i mean. and I stand by what i said.

  • Mary had a little lamb is a tune SRV plays allways the same way, it is played with a pick, so one string at a time,... In this video you see tommy improvising all the way, playing also bass-notes, and, considering he plays with his fingers and not with a pick, much, much faster than SRV. I also like SRV, but nothing compares to TE.

  • Eddie Van Halen couldn't even chord to this stuff...LOL...

  • Correct.

  • jessupar i disagree with that statement in total. The best is Eddie Van-Halen

  • djmighton, I think that's best left to Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Anyone know what tuning Cannonball Rag is in?

  • It's in standard tuning

  • jessupar i disagree with that statement in total. The best is Eddie Van-Halen

  • Eddie who?

  • LMAO, I'd like to see him play something like Mary had a little lamb

  • Can Tommy play anything slow at all? :-)

  • He doesn't have to. :)

  • WOW!!! It doesn't get much better than that.

  • Fantastic stuff....Just wish the sound was a bit better

  • where in Ireland was this? ahhh come back for me Tommy!! ha ha he's a god!

  • When does there DVD come out ?

  • gclott65
