Yes Dilla did do a great job sampling this song, but why is nobody giving Towa credit for putting down a dope ass track like this. Honestly this song is the shit.
I taped this video from MTV or something back in the mid-90's, and would play it all the time. I think I might have been the only kid in my part of Indiana rocking to Towa Tei at that time, lol. But we had a great public library in my town, with a first rate audio/visual department. So fortunately I could expose myself to all kinds of great music.
tha whole time i thought dilla was genius for coming up with the beat for find a way but no...he got it from here. still a good idea for using it to sample though.
its in portuguese of Brazil, she sings that in Copacabana (Rio de Janeiro beach) have all of good, all that is nice, like acerola juice with apple, and comes from the foot( tree).... something like this
Yooo! He's got Tribes "Find A Way" hook line flowing in there! It's unfortunate none of this music is being played anywhere on Radio :( but other than that this some GOOD SHIT DOE!
@Btubby21 -- That's easy... it's the universal language of cool! ;-) ... but, to be serious, if you are referring to the female voice, that is Portuguese, I think. Towa Tei, along with a lot of his contemporaries, heavily sampled/enjoyed Bossa Nova and Brazilian music. The singer's name is Bebel Gilberto, daughter of famed Joao Gilberto (known for stuff like "The Girl from Ipanema"). Oh, and there is a "Tribe Called Quest" sample in this song too... from the song called "Find a Way." (;^.^)
the tribe's version is really cool and i enjoy almost everything dilla touched, but that one is groovin harder than yancey's one, nuff respect for that catchy tune!
I am a producer myself and I understand sampling is a good art form however no up to par with what I consider Musical talent.
I`m inspired by the Neptunes/Indie bands(Coldplay/arctic monkeys) etc mostly because They don`t use samples but rather playing every singe chord themselves
aww... same man... I was five when I first saw this and was amazed then. Im a senior in highschool now and I was just getting into Cornelius again when my friend re-introduced me to Towa Tei. Turns out he's been an all-time favorite I just never discovered. This is just... this feeling has no description...

Actually, A tribe called quest sampled from him.......not the other way around. He helped them out by adding his sample and mixing it for them.

kinghenderson126 3 years ago
do you know the meaning of inspiration?
they sampled it and took the melody or their hook
Interpolation and inspiring is a different thing
and sampling is another thing
RealDefentertainment 3 years ago 2
lol
in a old interview
Dilla tell ppl how the sample was a inspiration for ATCQ to write find a way
and make it the first single on their final album
oh lol Interpolation and inspiring is a different thing lol
if u see the interview u will see why that is funny as hell that u said that
must not be a Dilla fan
kinghenderson126 3 years ago

true that
but i do luv a gud sample when it done
in a respectful way not jus sped up
like
1993Ice Cube - Today Was A Good Day sample of 1977The Isley Brothers - Footsteps in the Dark
and
Jay-Z - Can I Live sample of 1970Isaac Hayes - The Look of Love
kinghenderson126 3 years ago
Just because they play every chord/note themselves doesn't make them any less derivative than someone who samples.
