She either wanted to grab a piece of the dog food but didn't want to chance turning her back on you or taking YOUR food or garding the food. I find red bellied wood peckers to be our most intelligent backyard birds. My main one comes to my window to let me know that it's time to refill the bird feeder. I even had him land on the door knob and peck on the glass and that bill made a good loud Rap Rap sound. I love them! I gave you a thumbs up.
This is one of my all time favorites! I love this bird and this video captures his voice and personality so well. Perhaps puppies at one time learned to bark from him. He is so adorable.
@MissMysterics They have slight red coloring on the lower belly down by their legs, it is hard to see unless they are hanging in the right position. This is a male, they have red on the head down to the beak. Females only the back portion of the head. These aren't called redheaded because the true redheaded woodpecker has an ENTIRELY red head...front, back, and sides..both male and females.
Great video! Those are pretty good sized birds. We have them come to our feeders all of the time. They eat the suet we hang out. We hear them talking in the woods next to our house all of the time. Keep up the great videos. Tell Sharky we said "HI".
You'll start filming your own nature documentaries at this rate! :)
We have had allsorts of animals in our garden (here in the UK) over the years, including a black squirrel, frogs, the neighbours rabbit (dug under the fence and into our garden!), a neighbours cat, a female mouse (and her babies) that lived under our shed for a few months, some predatorial bird (that killed and ate a small bird in our back garden!) and possibly a few I have forgotten.
Wow! Outstanding video! That's a spectacular little bird when you zoom in. Very smart pinstripe suit and red cap, and then you notice he spilled his tomato soup! Messy eater obviously. X-D Dog food? Yeah why not, he's omnivorous after all.
I filmed a red bellied woodpecker recently but this shot beats mine all to hell, great catch there! Thanks for giving me a new YT video to get my cat watching too btw, lol!

This is amazing. <3 I had a red bellied woodpecker in my house for a while (mom rehabilitates wild animals) and he was such a character.
