Haha, I think these three manage to portray the Nacarelli family perfectly. Signor Nacarelli still has that strange tendency to emphasize the strangest parts of words, even when he speaks in Italian, which, ti me, is his defining characteristic.

@mariaelisabella The budget for a Broadway musical is far less than the sequel to an Oscar winning movie, it's likely the producers spent their money on things more pertinent than the authenticity of the actors' Italian. Also, this is, for the most part, the second cast, with whom they would have had less time to perfect it they way the might have with the original cast.

@ITCJon  and so? what does it mean? it's a broadway musical about italian people. the final product credibility would have been way bigger with real italians. these actors lack of right pronunciation (morrison's version is hardly understandable!); real and natural accent and gestuality. don't get me wrong, they are all amazing artists, but i think the casting choice was wrong.

and do you think this show would make any sense in an italian adaptation? i don't think so...

Aaron Lazar blows this song out of the water! But I love Matt Morrison too, he was the reason I even bothered to figure out what "Light at the Piazza" was. Argh. Fine. They are BOTH great...

I adore him and Matt equally, I just think it's the pairings that were off. I think Aaron would sound a lot better with Kelli and Matt's voice is better suited to Katie's. Aaron and Kelli both have more 'operatic' voices and Matt and Katie both have more mainstream voices. All four are wonderful, I just think they need to be matched up differently.

That might have been the point though--

because Katie is so...adorable and childish, it was a good contrast with Aaron, who is clearly portrayed (including through his voice) as a handsom, mature man.

Agreed. Matthew is wonderful (especially on the eyes), but Aaron feels sooo much more authentic. I think they both have their strengths, but I absolutely love Aaron's performance.

That's very true. But I'll admit that I've never cared as much for composers wishes and stylistic integrity as I should when faced with a stylistically incorrect way of doing things that, imo, sounds better.

I'm with you. Aaron Lazar may not be an opera singer, however, he is definately my favourite Fabrizzo. Have you heard him sing ''Love to me''-? He rocks! Matthew Morrison may do well in other wells (God help him do so) but I just like Aaron better in this case. ^_^

I was just watching this and I really agree. I liked Matthew's voice very much, but Aaron rocked the role of Fabrizio. I think he should have been paired with Kelli O'Hara for the original Broadway cast.

In general, I prefer Matthew, especially in La Passegiata, but Aaron kicks his butt on this song. I do prefer Matthew's belted G# (or whatever it is), but Aaron absolutely owns this song, mainly because he's more passionate and seems more Italian, in my opinion.

I like Matthew Morrison, in fact I liked him better until I compared this song--Il Mondo Era Vuoto, as well as La Passeggiata, with Aaron and Matthew. Aaron not only sounds more Itlian, but his voice is very well controlled and he just sounds more like Fabrizzo to me. :/ Mat's probably great in other roles, but Aaron remains Fabrizzo to me, Noni.

No they didn't. But you can get a translation if you bought a libretto at the theater or at like a Broadway store. I got one as a gift; it's nice to have if you're a big fan, but certainly not necessary to understand the show.
