John Smith brought my friend Cheryl and I together as pen pals way back in 1962. We were members of his then fan club. 47 years on and though pen has been replaced by email - we're still doing well and keeping in touch. A lot has happened in those years, we've both experienced the loss of our soulmates but our friendship has remained strong throughout. So sad to learn JS is no longer with us. A very warm and moving tribute. He was a very good looking man.
In the 60's when I was a little girl, my family went to some kind of exhibition and there was a booth where you could have your picture taken with a group of celebrities. Me, my brother and dad decided to do it. I remember my brother stood by 'Vanderbilt' from F-Troop and this good looking cowboy kneeled and said to me, "This time I get the pretty girl." I was shy but I went and sat on his knee and we had our picture taken. That good looking guy was John Smith and I still have that picture.
Hi, what a great story! You should head over to Robert Fuller's unofficial website and share your story. Mary would love to hear your story of meeting John. She was good friends with him and has lots of fond memories. We'd love to see your picture too!
I have been attending Festival Of The West for a couple of years now. I have been meaning to tell Mary my story of my meeting with Mr. Smith. But it's been hard tracking her down with so many people, Plus at this year's event inside the tent, it was a bit unbearable with the heat, Maybe next year we will connect.
Laramie was one of those good programs that appeared with other notable TV Westerns including Gunsmoke, The Lone Ranger, The Rifleman, Wanted: Dead or Alive, Have Gun Will Travel, Death Valley Days, Bonanza, The Virginian, Wagon Train, The Big Valley, Maverick, The High Chaparral, Rawhide, The Tall Man, The Law Man and many others. A shame they dont show most of these anymore.
I always loved John Smith.I think he was a great and very underrated actor. He did an great job on laramie also i liked him very much as the captain of the Emergency! boys.
some "LARAMIE" episodes. I think it's one of the greatest westerns ever made. Both him and Robert Fuller made a great team playing Slim Sherman and Jess Harper on "LARAMIE". Also, I've seen some of John's other tv work too. I think John was a great actor and quiet handsome too.
Hi Zule, to be honest I didn't know much about John Smith, but I'm learning thanks to Mary! Talk about a handsome man! I haven't had a chance to see Laramie but I can't wait until they release it on DVD. Thanks for posting!
