@nemesis1ization Good Question. I go with my intuition on speed and I have been practising for a long time, thus feels good for me. The speed at which one would want to consider going up or down is completely aligned with the sympathetic (inhale for more energy and longer inhale), parasympatheticc (exhale for more relaxation and longer exhale) OR finally more of a 1:1 ratio for Homeostasis. Not one speed or size fits all. I hope this helps!
Hindus have been doing "Super Brain Yoga" for ages in front of temples devoted to Lord Ganesha. In fact, I have observed that while crossing a Ganesha temple on road, most people stop, take off their footwear, perform "Thoppukaranam" which is Super Brain yoga, and go on their journey. Lord Ganesha is associated with Knowledge/Memory, a point proved by this research and then resume their journey. @sukkha911 Thank you for this comment and insight. That certainly explains the grounding aspect by being bare footed and the knowledge/memory also. There is always something to be acknowledged and honored by ancient techniques that have stood the 'test of time' and know modern research is acknowleding more and more. @infokingg Great question. North and East are optimal based on the aforementioned discussion. South has a diuretic property whilst West has a breaking down quality, each with their associated colors. It is not optimal to do this technique facing either South or West. we find everything amazing only when a thing is done by foreigners. this excercise is being done almost all indians for the last centuries. yet we have been thinking that thoppukaranam was funny if it was done by us.

It is the simplest of things and most ancient of things we foreigners love and learn from, I am of Greek origin and also find our traditions humorous when "foreigners" per say learn from them and use them, even sacred geometry which has been around forever and Metatron which is a greek archangel. We all have so much to learn and share from cultures and family learnings.

For people who would like extra help to improve their intelligence, recommendation is 21 times per session. Further recommendations are available in the Superbrain yoga book which I highly recommend. hi! quantity recommended is only 21 rounds, perhaps in teh AM and again in the evening as it is energizing yet remarkably calming, I would not necessarily do superbrain yoga before bed :-) Despite being very grounding, has an energizing effect, so best on waking and again mid afternoon, I hope this helps! Ultimately discern how you feel and what works best for your physiology, there is certainly no 'one size fits all' O;-) It is quite a fun exercise also and

The fact is don't try to over do this technique. Do it just 14 to 21 squats. That amount is more than enough for the whole day. You can perform this number in the morning and the afternoon. Try to do this in mornings and afternoons. If you feel bad go down to once.

Your instructions are perfect regarding this technique. But anyone can increase the benefits by following the instructions given below.
Do not eat pork if you are practicing this technique.
Limit red meat.
Do it preferably after a shower.
Most importantly for the women.. don't practice this exercise 2 days before and 2 days after If you are on your Menstrual cycle.
