Very well said. I've often played music much faster than intended to see what effect it would have on melodic perceptions. Mainly on guitar, when I've sped up melodies I see harmonic implications that would otherwise be to sparse in their relations to make sense. I love jazz, so usually its a jazz piece, but it can happen with these as well. After all, speed is only the allotment of time between events.
