Some people take offense if anyone says he/she did not like the rendering. Why so touchy? If you like some musician, don't expect everyone to like him/her. Of course, the person had a choice not to leave a negative comment, but if he/she did leave one, then there is no point in attacking that person - it shows immaturity on your part. Having said that, when a musician sings a song of different language, he/she is expected to learn the words otherwise it is doing a disservice to the lyricist.
It hurts me to see Telugu speakers complaining about Tamil speakers pronounciation. That is the way it is going to be and I am sure Telugu speakers cannot pronounce Tamil properly either. Only if you are brought up as a child speaking the language other than your mother tongue you will be able to master the other. Just stop complaining and learn to appreciate the music. Great music! I am a big fan of Santhanam
Hi there...a great video...do you have the collection of panchratna kritis sung by the great Maharajapuram Santhanam and his disciples. Can you upload them too..
Unlike most of the netizens I have never had the privelege of learning Carnatic Music. I'm sure all of you understand and enjoy it much more than I do. Nevertheless it felt so soothing to listen to this keertana. It is sung so soulfully.. It transports me to a different plane. My obesiance to the great soul Late Sri Santhanam. How I wish I knew more about CM....
This is a masterpiece of appeal soaked in pathos composed by Saint Thyagaraja which always brings a lump to my throat. While Maharajapuram does weave bhava into this krithi rendered melodically in his regal style, it must be admitted that most Tamil vocalists do not manage to pronounce (some of the) Telugu words correctly or else break the sahithya at inappropriate places which at times is jarring.
I am not a kid who grew up listening to classical music. But when I fumbled upon this song, I instantly became a big fan of Mr Santhanam. He is awesome and I cannot express my words of appreciation. I now listen to his renditions everyday in my metro ride to work in DC. He makes my day. Thank you very much Santhanam gaaru. I am sure you are in Heaven.
These are some of rare breed of singers who strive to balance the essence of the krithi and music. Though the breakage of some words does go wrong the essence is great. If the new crop of singers take time to know the "BHAVA" of the krithi they can at least make the songs presentable. They are more concerned about music than the essence. Music without BHAVAM is like a decorated corpse. Thyagaraja swamy himself said in "sangeetha gnaanamu bhakti vina". We should be glad to listen to these greats
My Birth is worth after seeing live singing of my favourite Classical singer Dr.Santhanam. This Song is a masterpiece for the Raaga Reethigowla. It enters any body's heart like a arrow into the body. Difference is it gives soothing and calmness. Great salutations to Saint Thyagaraja for the heart touching lyrics and for rendering to Sri Santhanam .
AMAZING SONG!!!!!!IMPECCABLE RENDERING!!!UNDISPUTED mastery!!only ardent Connoisseurs can appreciate this kind of mastery!People following carnatic music religiously can relish this song!
I am sorry to say I could hardly enjoy that song in the rag Reethi gowlai at the hands of Maharajapuram.I make a dispassionate approach about that.Kindly put up with my harsh statement
I am really sorry Mr Govindarajan about your horrible comment and obviously a poor taste If you can not enjoy this master piece of the Saint Thyagaraja rendered so beautifully by the one and only Maharajapuram Santhanam, then what to say about your taste on Carnatic music You are truly a misfit in this forum Please do not write such out of place comment on such great musician and reveal your ignorance I have tried to temper my comments in mild term despite my anguish
What a beautiful, heart-rendering, and emotional kriti, reassuring protection of the Lord at all times! This is more appealing in times of distress and pain. Thanks for posting this.
Great kriti and great rendition The listener can really feel the precious pearl (animuthyamu) of Rama Bhakti What a voice , gamakam and clarity We really miss you Mr Maharajapuram Santhanam
No one has your depth None will ever have My salutations
Learning the words is different from being able to pronunciate.
