Actually, the Old Covenant was a national one. If you were born an Israelite, you were naturally under it. The Law Covenant made sins manifest(Galatians 3:24). What was demonstrated thru Israel's setting was that imperfect man cannot perfectly keep the law. Sinning was such hard work with the many sacrifices to atone for sins. The New Covenant validated by Christ's sacrifice opens the way for sinful man to gain God's mercy (Matthew 9:13).
And only by the Grace of God can we obey Him who has saved us. My Bible says greater is He who is in us that he who is in the world and ALL things are possible through Christ Jesus. God gives us the ability to obey Him by depending upon Him continuously.
True, there are many translations. But they are basically the same. All scripture is inspired by God. Yet I agree with you on the matter of God providing us with what we need to obey him, and that is HIS inspired word which tells us how.
Really, people need to stop being SOOO critical of one another. I said "My Bible" to mean as the Word of God on which I base my faith on, not that I was referencing any "particular" translation.
Didn't mean to be critical. It's just that its important to always use tact when sharing spiritual things with others. Christ's words were always winsome to his audience. Saying "My Bible" gives others the implication that they are reading something perhaps foreign to the sacred pronouncements.
Correction need not be taken as a bad thing.
I welcome criticism, as long as it's done in the right way---without name calling, or an uncool spirit. If I say something out of line, let me know.
Yes I do, ONLY by growing in Grace and trusting in Him continuously. Only this is part of the problem, the fact that we are fallen and tend NOT to always trust in Him continuously and at every moment, especially in times of temptation or when we are at our weakest. I say this as an observation though, not as an excuse to just not obey by His divine strength. However, He gives us many victories over sin which is trangression of His law.
thrufaithalone - Do you believe 1) Christians are to obey God's law by the Grace of God and 2) That it is possible for us and 3) That we can obey Him perfectly.
I believe we are to strive to be obedient, but we still contend with the flesh; I agree with you - it's not an excuse for disobedience, but we will have times we fail. It's what 1stJohn1:8-10 is for. Peace -
Amen. We are to strive and we can overcome as God asks us to ONLY by trusting in divine strength of Jesus and not in or of ourselves. As a Seventh-day Adventist this is what we believe and you and I see eye to eye as well with Holy Scripture.
sleanos, I really like these videos: deborahbetty58 sent them to me. Thanks, deborah! At 4:21, #9, you'd want to rephrase, because Church wasn't supposed to exist. We got grafted in under the OTHER Kingship of Christ, the Kata Melchizedek Royal Patent of Psalm 110 and Heb 5, which your video is actually tracing. #9 as worded implies we replace Israel, which I'd bet you don't intend to say.
Well, we have an opposite covenant via Our King based on Ps110 which PREDATES Israel, as Bk of Hebrews shows. Our covenant has NOTHING to do with OT in form, but is an UPGRADE: far higher. As Gal3:25 says, Israel was under an older schoolboy (paidagwgos). OT law is an abacus, like case law; but our rules are Royal, akin to Pentium 10+ computer. See also Rom14-15: as we each now train to be kings, how one OBSERVES, shouldn't be condemned by another. Gone, is one-size-fits all observance. Sorry!
brainouty, no offense, but what you just stated made very little sense. All who come to God are given power by His Grace to obey all He would have us to obey according to His word. What are you talking about with "one-size-fits all observance"?
Mosaic Law was one-size-fits all, a nation under that law, to be a witness to the world. But the people IN the nation were not themselves Royal. By contrast, every one of us is in training to become a King under the King of Kings, so we learn OT and NT in order to MAKE rules, so no one else has the right to tell us what observances to make, theme of Romans 14-15.
We are not making any rules, we are to observe all those things God tells us to in His word in order to prepare our hearts & minds, develop a pure character that we may be fitted and ready at the 2nd coming of Christ. I think you are little misguided perhaps...
sleanos, "learn His Word & live on it" applies to us all, as you said. But ALL Word applies, not just some. Takes time to learn ALL Word. Some thus are less mature, so deem one day or food above another, as Paul notes in Rom14. Those who know better should not chide these folks, again per Rom14. So Paul shows how we each learn to MAKE rules as we age in Christ, each with a potential kingship per Isa53:12. How well via Spirit we do that, determines if we're crowned at Bema: opposite form, vs OT.
Again, you aren't making any sense. I say this respectfully. I agree we are to live according to what God has revealed to us in His Word. This is HIS will for us. We aren't making any new rules to obey but are preparing to obey all He has already revealed in His Word until the Second Coming of Christ. You can cite as many verses as you like but I feel you are misappropriating the Word of God now. Good day.
with Yah'shua, all the Children of the Adam, by means of His own blood; the second one. For there is a lot of confusion as to the full understanding of the both. While alternating and mixing up the physical with the spiritual interpretation concerning of the two Covenants. Bless
Amen Sleanos, your job won't be done for quite a while I am afraid. Yet first of all praise to the Almighty YHVH, for inspiring you to put this on YT, for any (willing) heart to receive Yah'shua Ha'Meshiach through the Plan of Salvation, as explained by means of the two major Covenant. The first one, He invited the ancient Hebrew Israelites to enter into, and later on during the Last Supper (Mat. 26:28; Mark 14:24)
Hi Chris. Thanks for the critique. The reason I put Athiesm as a tag is for the many atheist or "anti-theists" that I see on yourtube bashing the bible or incorrectly stating things that the bible does not teach or why, etc. My hope is that if it reaches 1 unbeliever and gives them understanding, then my job is done.
acutually the Covenant with Abraham was also Ratified with the blood of the foreskin:WordNet -ratified adjective
formally approved and invested with legal authority.Genesis 17:10
This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
Genesis 17:11
And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.
Key point here being a token of the covenant !

You are correct, Christians do not replace Israel. In fact we are grafted into the kingdom of God. We in essence become spiritual Israelites.

Hi Sleanos,
I don't quite understand why you put an 'atheism' tag to this video.
I am an Atheist and you may undertstand that all the biblequotes that silently passed my screen were not so exiting to me.
i can't judge the content so i won't rate, but some music or rather a voice that read the quotes would have been nice.
