I think the reason In Flames gets so much hate is similar to the reason The Rolling Stones got so much hate...because they're fucking awesome and people can't handle it.

Come Clarity was not always consistently good, but it had some amazing tracks like Take This Life, Vacuum, and Crawling Through Knives, to name a few.
A Sense of Purpose, on the other hand, was pretty good all around, but only two or three songs were great, with only one truly amazing song (I'm the Highway).
An album with the heaviness of CC and the harmonies of ASOP would be truly incredible.

I liked this album. And I liked all their old stuff too. I honestly don't care that they changed. If they continued the old way for a long time, it would get tiring and old quickly. Style changes happen to many many bands. This is one of them. I enjoyed this album's guitar and vocals a lot. It was a new approach, and who knows if they will go through ANOTHER change and maybe just maybe it will be for the best.
All bands evolve in their music, u can't compare the oldera albums to the new ones ! As a musician you are always getting better. And you are gonna use it at some point !
Reroute soundtrack and come clarity are disappointments but this album is amazing.

you can say that in flames has gotten more commercial and weaker, because anders said in an interview that they were trying to reach a new crowd (the emo scene) he said this but with other words. they´ve sounded as they´ve been trying this since a soundtrack to your escape to me anyway. i hope they harden up a bit at least to come clarity type music on the next album at least. they´ve been losing my respect because of this more and more since ASOP has been released. sorry to say it =/

i appreciate everything that in flames has contributed to the metal scene. they were the progenitors of melodeath in the mid '90's. and now they once again are inovating the metal scene by combining the grooviness and catchiness of the new wave with the core progression and intensity of the european death metal scene. it's great. i really like A Sense of Purpose.
I agree with sum of your points. But why do people not like In Flames just because they sound different? So what? They have progressed and matured as musical artists. Every song on the new album has been mastered to perfection. They have excellent riff's and great chorus's.
I strongly disagree with the Reroute to Remain comment. I would say "Soundtrack..." sounded more like old In Flames than "Reroute..." did (though Reroute is the better of the two).
however i also need to say that, in my opinion, clayman was their best and the fact that i dont like them as much has nothing to do with them becoming a worse band...but more to do with them treading away (stylistically) from something that was my idea of perfect in flames

You cant rate an Album on each individual song. Number of the Beast is one of the greates metal albums of all time, but it still has 2 or the Worst songs of all time, Gangland, invaders. An LP is about the album as a whole not each individual song.
I happen to like the new sound, yes it's not as hard but it's necessary for bands to evolve or it gets boring hearing essentially the same thing with minor changes. You're overanalyzing the songs, music should be something that either does of doesn't take hold of your emotions and move you in some way.

Reading or listening to a review can have an impact on your own opinion of the song before you even listen to it. I think that Disconnected is the perfect overview for the album, "I feel like shit, but at least I feel something". The entire album, lyrically, is more personal than anything they've ever done. It's a journey into Anders. It's the best.

i appreciate everything that in flames has contributed to the metal scene. they were the progenitors of melodeath in the mid '90's. and now they once again are inovating the metal scene by combining the grooviness and catchiness of the new wave with the core progression and intensity of the european death metal scene. it's great. i really like A Sense of Purpose.

I strongly disagree with the Reroute to Remain comment. I would say "Soundtrack..." sounded more like old In Flames than "Reroute..." did (though Reroute is the better of the two).

You cant rate an Album on each individual song. Number of the Beast is one of the greates metal albums of all time, but it still has 2 or the Worst songs of all time, Gangland, invaders. An LP is about the album as a whole not each individual song.

I happen to like the new sound, yes it's not as hard but it's necessary for bands to evolve or it gets boring hearing essentially the same thing with minor changes. You're overanalyzing the songs, music should be something that either does of doesn't take hold of your emotions and move you in some way.

I don't understand why everyone has a so negative reaction to the band's change of music style. I like ALL the music In Flames has made, and i LOVE the new album. Anders has a very powerful voice in this one. "The Chosen Pessimist" and "Delight and Angers".

I think reviewing albums was one of the stupidest things ever invented. People should just listen to the music and decide for themselves whether or not they like the track or not. Reading or listening to a review can have an impact on your own opinion of the song before you even listen to it. Hence making you dislike a song you could have possibly liked but you didn't because somebody had already told you it wasn't that good. These peoples opinions are no more legit or valid than your own...

Dude, have you ever listened to IN FLAMES at all? You don't need to compare them to any other metal band, nor CAN you. IN FLAMES is an ever evolving band that can do no wrong. If people have a problem with what they're doing, then they aren't true fans at all.
I think that Disconnected is the perfect overview for the album, "I feel like shit, but at least I feel something". The entire album, lyrically, is more personal than anything they've ever done. It's a journey into Anders. It's the best.

I'm amazed out how many immature, whiny comments there are about this guys opinion. I love In Flames (although I lean more toward the older stuff), but totally agree with him. In Flames have watered down their sound to sell albums, the same way Metallica did. It's not that the new stuff is bad, it just doesn't live up to the hype of classics like "Whoracle" or "Colony."
But that's my opinion.
