I'm not sure I agree with the sanding of that joint at 1:03. Once that lap is cut, advance the piece and pass it tansversely across the blade for a consistent surface. Plus, at 0:43, repeated at 1:13, you're doing the cuts in the reverse order. Using the square and the fence for that first cut is a dangerous technique that no pro would do. At 1:56, what the heck are you doing? By the way, it's RABBET, not rebate. Please don't post any more videos. You're going to get someone hurt.
@IrishWoodDoctor You obviously have little experience if you don't know why your technique at 0:43 and 1:13 is dangerous. Ever hear of "kickback?" Make the cuts from the end of the board in to the shoulder cut, not the other way around. Your sanding of the joint like that leads to humping... fine if you're building a flower box for the garden, but not much else. As far as me getting hurt... 40 years in the shop and not a single injury. Good luck, "lefty."
@IrishWoodDoctor Also, you say sawblades were not meant to have pieces moved across them. Why don't you take a look at this - Woodworking Essentials Chapter 7: Advanced Table Saw Techniques - and then let us know.
the music wasnt bad. but the technique was questionable. if your showing how to do this type of thing with inexpensive tools. why not toss in a router table to clean up the lap joints? also, glue... you don't need nearly 1/8th of the amount of glue you poured on those joints, if the surfaces are true, it only takes enough to wet the surface. brush a little on both mating surfaces of the joint then clamp. proper glue joints are stronger than the wood they join. flooded joints fail easily.
Very cool, friendly and nice sounding video. I've only worked in commercial sheds building thousands of whatevers for the Bon Marché (revealing my age), Nordstrom and others. Now I have a full tiny wood shop and you are my first video and project! Thanks for the work to edit and post this for us.
@MrSeattleFish thanks for the kind complement, its always great to hear things from other people. Age is only a number eh? I would make a guess you wont say you have a full wood shop in a few months time, you can never have enough tools.
great job man, very nice. 4th grader my ass....i wish i was that good. i would love to watch more of your project vids (you talking instead of writing instructions would really improve it even more)
Not my choice of music, it's audioswap's music, it is either this or something equally as bad or something slightly better but around 2 minutes shorter than the video.
@MegaBenglish either your an idiot, or your 4th grader is the best 4th grade woodworker out there, this box isnt bad but infact good, i just wouldnt have used wood that thick or used wax. overall good box. your 4th graders teacher is doing the projects for the most part then if its that good.
@RaymundLaurie
Really? that's great!I was using that program also.
That program comes with so many projects & its
quick and easy to do.. :) But dude, you must have
interchange its name. Here's the correct one:

@TomKaren1994 jesus i'll need a mug of tea for this one,
First, at 1:03, that was a sample piece, also sawblades were not meant to have pieces moved across them.
Second, i dont see how 0:43 and 1:13 is dangerous
Third, at 1:56 i am sanding some wood
Its a rebate in Europe, not rabbet
(No need for caps lock, i can see your comment just fine)
People hurt themselves, I dont hurt anyone, dont expect to be able to sue me if you get hurt.

Its neat idea for beginners , Boxes similar to this is what I started out making to get used to the tools I had bought .

Instead of placing the small wood sticks on the top, I would cut the borders and lower the box top. just 1 piece on top

Great job! I appreciate the simplicity that you use and it's great how creative this project can be.

very well done! thanks for making it simple and giving great detail.
Can see how this could be adapted to make several different sizes easily.
