Twelve years ago, when I read the book, I would've said Brad Pitt for Joe, Jodie Foster for Juliana (but Rhada Mitchell is a great choice too), Mako for Tagomi, Nicolas Cage for Frank Frink, Robert Redford for Baynes, and so on... But Abendsen, I don't know, that's a good one.
It's good, but the Nazis havee very very little to do with the protagonists in the book, bro. It's fascinating really, how the East totally took over the US, which I'm sure would have happened. Philip K Dick's a fuckin genius
just saw your trailer for high castle film, thought it was great idea for a buisness project. what about the i ching, if i was making a trailer for this book into a film i would definately include the i ching and the yarrow sticks. lol. check out my chanel, on my comic which includes alternate versions of pkd. hope you enjoy.
@TomSawyerSpongeRay No, that refers to the book "The Grasshopper Lies Heavy," which was a novel within the actual book "Man in the High Castle," which was theoretical to that fictional world and quite different from our own, although we did 'still' win the war.
You obviously didn't read "The Man in the High Castle" and that makes your comments sound very kooky and out of context.
The idea is nice. I tend to think tho that Germany may have lost the war, but not the faschist ideology. Just look at our so-call "democracies" right now... "yes we can" vs "heil hitler" what's the difference?
A film adaptation to this book, if done right would have to be big in scope as the "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep," adaptation. Things would have to be adjusted so that it could make sense on scream like they did for "Blade Runner," but if done right it could be an electrifying film. If Zack Snyder does "WATCHMEN" right, which is a tough cookie to adapt, then I would put him up to the task to adapt "The Man in the High Castle."
This is a book that should be mandated to be read in school along with "Brave New World." It vividly points out a possiblity of what could have happened if the "Axis Powers" won the war, and one lesson in my opinion that could be learned from it is that History is written by the winners, never the losers.
Fantastic rendering of PKD's vision. "The Man in the High Castle" is one of my favourite books of all time! Check out my alternate history of WW2 based on the Turtledove Worldwar series.
I think the Man in the High Castle shouldn't be adapted for film. It seems to daunting of a task for any filmmaker to handle.
How can someone convey the convergence of the Tao in the book? How can you effectively portray Tagomi's hazy Hell-journey through San Francisco? His battered heart after the Nippon Times attack?
Just seems so unrealistic to think we've come far enough to pull off the Man in the High Castle without making another damn Minority Report.
Do you mean Hawthorne Abendsen? Our pitch for class had modified and merged some of the characters for the adaptation - Ethan Hawke would be playing the author character.

This sounds like the song they used in the 2001 movie "Pearl Harbor," when the Japanese pilots were getting ready and taking off from their carrier.

You haven't quite captured the spirit of the book there.

@lonegroover
I agree. The book is NOT a glorification of USA's dominion... quite the opposite!

hahaha awesome! I just read this book, and this captures what might be the enormous emotional impact if it were ever made into a movie.

@TheAlliesCanHelp Maybe, maybe not. Hitler's Germany wasn't a paradise for a lot of Germans either. Lots of Germans were killed by the Nazis.

This is along the same lines as Fatherland and Harry Turtledove's "In the Presence of Mine Enemies".
They're worth reading.
