Beautiful. With her natural ability for this martial art combined with the fact that she is the daughter of the chief instructor of this style, Onaga Yoshimitsu, and has been trained since she could walk, it is no wonder why every single movement she makes is absolutely inspiring. She is demonstrating an exceptional skill of 'Ti', the ancient indigenous Okinawan martial art that preceded modern karate; that is why she seems to have an uncanny 'flow' in her movements. a demonstration of close distance.how sweet that can be.i can tell since i´m one of those that has to use it every day.as long as it is fun it is good to play but when ever itches come into play i´d recommend to rest for a while.would you agree that jogging at a moderate pace is a good substitute for Kata training?
I have not learned even the sequence of this kata yet but I can watch this video and easily see that the feet move the hips and the hips move the hands.
@asuraizen No Shorin ryu. Her Dad trained with Yuchoku Higa of the Kyudokan, whose main teach was Chosin Chibana.. Onaga left the Kyudokan on his 50th Birthday forming the Shinjinbukan dojo.
Her technique is terrifying. Her strikes are so fast. Picture getting hit in the face or ribs, not seeing it, but suddenly feeling something snap. And she'll only hit you if it was the last resort, so, at that point, she's beyond holding back.
Man, I wish I was her student. Just to be a part of a real school with real technique and philosophy.
Should watch her strike a makiwara and watch her cut a suspended piece of paper with that whip like motion. Won't want the skin ripped of my face by that punch. Check it out.
I think that, despite the fact if someone competes or not, REAL KARATE is when the karateka effectively trains in all aspect of his martial arts (kihon, kata, kumite). therefore a person that is good at kata should be equally as good in kumite but one that never neglects their kihon.
So u say REAL KARATE is not about tournament. U know that even a dancer and a ballerina can do that kata so easy but they can not win a fight just because they are so good at kata.Budo is a good lesson about how to endure and keep your calm,(fortitude)and about respect of your uper rank dojo persons ,some kind of samurai spirit.Anyhow i know many good people at kata and they are so bad at fighting, that is why i ask if she can fight .
That depends on what you mean by good at kata. I RARELY see someone who is good at kata but not kumite. I don't mean tournament kata either. But if you don't believe in kata, then why even bother asking the question if she can fight.
Sorry it took me to long to reply to this...hmm to answer you question...
Fighting is not why many people train in martial arts. Some people are very good at fighting without even training to be a fighter. Some people know there body so well they can do kata very well. But it is the essence THROUGH TRAINING IN KATA TO DEVELOP THE MUSCLE CONTROL AND THE BODY CONDITIONING THROUGH KATA..if you do not understand that, try doing one, ten times in a row. At top speed.
whether she chooses to fight or not is on her own opinion. In true regards will one ever need to conduct his or her life the way the samurai did back then? No. But. They can by training in budo obtain budo spirit. Kata is the study of movement in the body. If you just train to fight...your nothing but a brawler...nothing more. One who can do both, they have reached mastery. Were all youtube warriors...talking shit on youtube...get a life...
Real karate is not about tournaments...tournament is bull shit...karate for personal achievement and learning budo...you take budo to an MMA fight that really is life and death and I can guarantee that Traditional or Classical Karate will have the upper hand.

Well said. A well-trained karateka is a well-rounded karateka, always working on improving their skill in all aspects of karate.
