I drove cross country on orders once. From Havelock, NC to San Diego, CA. One of the best experiences of my life (about a year before your road trip, too). I've regretted ever since not stopping and using my two buffer travel days to enjoy the sights. Ever since I've planned another trip, but have usually thought about buying an RV to rig to my truck. Seeing this, I'm more inclined to get a bike and just ride free, man. Looks like fun.
Buddy you got ripped off ! I went from L.A. to Paris France non stop on a DC10 round trip for 500 bucks in 1996. Went thru 4 countries in europe on trains and the whole 2 weeks trip including air fair food lodging was about $2300.00. And i've been thru 46 states in trucks. You paid more for the bike then what i paid for a 3 bedroom house in Kansas. You got me beat with the Hilton though. I've never been in one for more then a few hours for drinks or to sneak in the pool lol.

The picture you took in New Mexico of the mountain.. that is called Rabbit Ears Mountain. If you look at it just right it looks like an indian with a headdress on laying on his back. Chief Rabbit Ears is buried on the top of it. I'm from Texas but my family ranches in the area. Great Video!

Great trip! Hopefully soon I'll be doing something similar like your adventure. I don't have a GS, but I think 2009 will be the year I purchase one. What a great bike the GS is!

Neil Peart from the band Rush rode like 55,000 miles on his BMW after his wife and daughter died. from Quebec, going to the Arctic, around Alaska, through Mexico, down to Belize. These are bikes built to go pretty much anywhere. does Harley *cough PAINT SHAKER* make a bike that is as comfortable off road as it is ON road, not that I know of.
perfect bike for cross country trips, couldn't pick a better bike, getting one in late spring and going west this summer
