  • It is so sad that he did not get the care that he needed at a young age. It is heartwarming to see him so happy despite his condition.

  • hey I just want to say thanks for uploading this, it made my night to see mote man again I miss everything about Sardis now that I'm only there for summers but seeing stuff like this helps with my animal withdrawals

  • Dear santa :D..........

  • He's adorable! Shame on those people, barn owls are supposed to be scared of the LIGHT! It's cute that he sleeps with a nightlight though :) poor little guy.

  • That are some nice and healthy animals. Hope they all have a long and healthy life. (Looked through most of the pictures)

  • Why is the swimming pool so tiny? That's like torture.

  • If all that is true, then I love that bird.

  • ah always wondered what their beak looked like under the feathers!

  • Is that why he cant close his wings all the way?

  • wow I wonder what the previous owners did to make an animal afraid of its natural time of the day and its natural prey? poor thing. the fear of cats i cant blame him cause since he cant fly cat might eat him (personally I love cats but even I know they are predators) glad your giving him a better life

  • oh how cute! do you have more videos of Mote? I'd love to see mroe of him! He's adorableee :)

  • What a sweet little owl xD

  • Awww what a cutie pie~ My parrot had to sleep w/the light on for about 2 months when we 1st got him. We leave light on in next rm, so he can still see but its dark enough for him to sleep. He would also panic if anything happened inside his cage, like he would bump into a toy, then freak out. He thought a big bad thing was gonna eat him in there. Id have to reassure him/then he's ok. He has to be cuddled/clucked, & snuggled for about 3mins b4 nite nite. He also says nite/nite to me too.

  • bittersweet. he has a disorder but has actually ended up living a longer life being in captivity. :(

  • Such a pretty owl! WANT!

  • So glad to know Mote is doing so well and has people to love and care for him.

  • what a lovely video,Mote you are adorable....i wish him health and a long life!!!!

  • @akAsha6E6D Thank you, that's so sweet! Many blessings to you too.

  • He is the sweetest little guy ever!!!!!!!

  • What an amazing creature! He's a true survivor, for sure! Warms my heart!

  • Poor baby he cant fly :(

thats why all animals should raise by thire parents

  • how precious <3

  • Why do you think they have such short lives in the wild when one with a bone condition can live to past 16 in captivity? Is it their natural diet? Do other Owls have similarly short lives? Why are their lives so short?

They are being outlived by Budgies, Cockatiels, ducks, chooks, etc in the wild but not in captivity. I know Owls also have predators, but how is it that Budgies - hunted by humans, hawkes, eagles and possums can outlive a Barn Owl?

    Really interested in a response.

  • @verticalsmurf A barn owl consumes about 1600+ rodents per year. Therein lies a primary difference between a barn owl and a budgie. Barn owls die prematurely from rodent poisoning, accidents with vehicles and power lines, and attacks from great horned owls.

  • @avalonmuse Thankyou. I hadn't thought about poisions.

  • @verticalsmurf Also, their habitats are being destroyed and the decrease in old barns available for nest sites. Barn owls are lightweight with very little body fat (not like budgies have a lot :-)), so it can be difficult for them to endure longer colder winters, as their soft feathers are not waterproof.

  • @verticalsmurf another big part of it is that in the wild when predators like barn owls get older and weaker they very quickly get to a point where they cant feed themselves anymore and so they die or get picked off by other predators. In captivity where food and safety is never a problem they can live a ton longer even with other medical problems. BTW to all mote is still doing well for an old geezer last time i saw him

  • @syeend1 give mote snuggles and a good head scratch from me.

I know there is no real reason behind it, but it never ceases to amaze me that a budgie can live longer than an owl, and my Conure will outlive all my neighbours cats and dogs (tee hee). I guess size doesn't matter.

  • He's afraid of the dark and mice. Officially my favorite barn owl. I wish I could meet him.

  • @mabs0253 Mote would definitely make a fine Pixar character.

  • AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW <3

  • aww such a sweetie

  • Wow ! I saw you @ the Monroe Fairgrounds a few years ago ...in fact , a co-worker and myself were just talking about Mote last week ! Awesome

  • what a awesome barn owl! i love mote! he is beautiful! i want a barn owl! although my parrot wont want a bird of prey! but that is so sweet! i can't say it enough! i love my parrot just as much as mote and every bird

  • cute <3

  • avalonmuse....Have you read Wesley the Owl, by Stacey O'Brien? If not, you should. Wesley was also afraid of live mice and also like to take bathes.

  • Very cute owl, God bless! <3

  • Aww he sleeps with a night light? So cute <3

  • he is gorgeous! i love barn owls :)

  • Adooooooorable!!!

  • awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • now THERE'S an owl having a good time :)

  • how did you get him,did u bye him?

  • Thanks to all those kind-hearted people who rescue the sick, injured and abandoned creatures of the wild, who would otherwise starve or die a slow death. Bless your hearts and work. If I didin't live in the stupid city, I would DEFINITELY do this. I have rescured more abandoned animals over the years. Thanks for posting! Keep it up.

  • What a sweetheart! Glad to see he is in good hands and has a great "job" to do!

  • @avalonmuse...You know....since he loves water so much...bet he would LOVE having a bathtub full of water for himself...I read the book "Wesley The Barn Owl" (that was a great book, I highly reccomend it!) a year or so ago, and Wesley was a barn owl who loved water, and he got to take baths in a bathtub! these owls are so precious

it is too bad that some people didn't take proper care of this one :(

  • @moonhowler1234 Thank you for asking. Mote has glass bone syndrome, where all the bones in the wings are fused together. He can lift his wings slightly, but can't fly.

  • @avalonmuse Aw that's a little sad

  • @avalonmuse is it from birth? this must be sooo rare rigth?

  • i'm gonna steal him, he's so cuteeeeeeee.

  • he looks at the camera like: you enjoying this?... lol jk

  • HES SOO CUTE<3<3

  • awww <3 may he live a superrrr long happy life <3 and lol an owl afraid of the dark xD thats so ironic and adorable xD

  • i wish there were owl breeders where you could go and buy one... i think having an owl for a pet would be so sweet. though i'd put him outside during the night. XD

  • He's so cute!!! :)

  • Bless his heart! He is so adorable!

  • @Jillthompson2008 Thank you! He is a precious being.

  • an owl thats afraid of the dark? well now I have seen everything. handsome creature I must say!

  • OMG SO CUTE! BEADY EYES WEEEHEHEHE

  • ITS SOREN

  • Everyone is on about how cool falcons, hawks, eagles are. OWLS are the coolest bird of prey. The wise, majestic owl.

  • Thats the cutest owl i've ever seen!!!

  • Kinda rare finding an Owl that acually WANTS to take a bath... very different from my cat -_-

  • What a sweet little owl. I am glad there are so many good people out there looking out for helpless creatures like this. <3

  • OOOOmg sOOOO cuuuutteee!!

  • Sure he's cute, but can he deilver my mail to hogwarts?

  • Awe! I called up Sardis once about five years ago, I was too young to volunteer there at the time :( Then we moved. This guy is such a cutie! I'm glad he's getting better care now, despite his syndrome :)

  • Poor little owl, lucky to have a good loving family now!

Afraid of the dark and mice! haha All in all he probably doesn't even know he is an owl. Had a cat raised with a ferret that way.

  • afraid of mice? I didn't know an owl could be so beta..

  • He is a darling.i

Just asking: why those metal looking rings around each of his ankles, and don't they weight him down? Also, it was wonderful to watch him enjoy is bath time, and wondering then if a larger bathing area would be good, as he looks pretty cramped . Thanks.

  • @meriprem The leather straps that are attached to his ankles are called jesses. When a large bird is glove held, these straps are there to keep the bird tethered to the glove. This prevents possible injury if a bird tries to fly off the glove.

Yes, I agree, he looked a little cramped. It was small enough that he was less likely to fall over on his side. He doesn't have the normal strength to use his wings to right himself back up.

  • @TheHabati lol

  • @PIXLnxt

Owls belong to the wild, its simple as that. Please, enlighten me with your wisdom then (if you're not bullshitting) why owls belong to human homes.

  • @TheHabati I never said they have to live with humans but they also don't have to live in the wild. my reasoning and proof lies in the thousands of people who own owls and all the owls that live in the wild. they can exist in the wild and with humans and don't have to be contained to one or the other

  • @AnelaKaMalu i want an owl because they're my fav animal. and what do you mean owls are not pets? just look at all the people who have them as pets. i mean of course you can't just go out into the wild, catch one and keep it as a pet. but if you raise it from an egg then you can raise it to be domestic

  • wonderful video :) hey just wondering, how do you avoid calcium problems? avoid using DOC as the main source of food?

  • he is an ancient sage owl.

  • HE IS SO CUTE!!! you are doing a great thing by taking care of him and the other birds!

  • What a sweetie. Great job :]

  • it looks ay camera and is like hi im a barn owl in a bath... and...TAKE ME OFF CAMERA PLEASE!

  • honest i wouldnt keep a beutiful creature like an owl locked up in a cage or in a house :( i know it would be very awesome to own one but they are wild and DESERVE to be left in peace :( it just kinda pains me to see those ties on its legs :(

  • @TheHighbeat Also the alamaris (leather straps around his ankles) are used to hold leather straps which we hold on to while we move him. It is for his safety, if he didn't have them, he would most likely fall off of the glove because he has poor balance because of bone growth disorder. It in no way harms him or causes him discomfort.

  • @eschwitter Thank you for the description! Very well detailed.

  • @TheHighbeat Stop being ignorant and read the description.

  • @Leviskardsen i understand now, i'm sorry for being ignorant, that poor owl :(

  • What kind of permit do you need to take care of a barn owl? Everyone keeps telling me that its illegal everywhere in the United States regardless of permit.

Pllllzzzzzz tell me this isn't true =(

  • @PIXLnxt Just imagine how many homes would have OWLS if it were legal.

In my dreams I have an owlery.

  • @avalonmuse so that means no? =(

    where is it legal then?

  • @PIXLnxt read the book Wesley the Owl. Great book but it tells you how hard they are to take care of. And you have to make them the center of your life for up to 20 years.

  • automatic feather dryer activating now....woooooooooosh!

  • @thegoth303 LOVE IT! :-) Thank you.

  • i didn't know that owls washe herselfs

  • Next time give him some more space for bathing

  • owls are cute birds ^^ they are cool and majestic. also, i like they way they stare with thoose big round eyes :D

good to se that you are taking good care of it :D

keep up the good work ^^

  • needs a bigger bathtub...:)

  • Beautiful:D

  • This little guy is WAY too sweet! Those two 'dislikes' can only mean that there are two mice on YouTube! :)

  • @UncleSol7379 Funniest comment I've received! Thank you.

  • @UncleSol7379 The mice appear to be increasing.

  • @avalonmuse: Well, the mice can all go back to the hovels from whence they came; your little guy is just too sweet and adorable!!! :)

  • lol its almost like owls have personalities!

  • I just had the pleasure of viewing all your pics from the raptor center (clicked on the link in the description) and read all of the pic explanations. How cool! You are doing such awesome work helping out these beautiful animals. :D

  • @bookstorexcore Thank you! Very sweet of you to take them time to look thru the photos. Much appreciated.

  • Okay, your video description just made this 100x cuter.

  • @zuruzuruzuru Thank you. MoteMan is really special.

  • -Squeal- It's so fluffy I'm gonna die! C: <3

  • Is it just me? or do i hear the sound of someone taking a shower in the background? (my birds react to bathing with a similar suggestion. If I'm out of the shower and they see me putting on body lotion, my macaw starts to bathe, and then the others follow suit). (wonder if it has anything to do with this little guy. He's so sweet). Thanks for sharing the video.

  • He looks so happy!!!! This video is adorable. <3

  • It makes me very happy to know that there are people out there that can care for such a beautiful owl. Thanks for sharing him with us, it is so cute to watch him play in the water

  • @Spudera7 You're welcome. Thank you for your kind words.

  • @LumberjackLover Thank you for your kind words. It's completely a privilege to assist birds of prey. MoteMan just makes it all the more irresistible to be of support.

  • Owl:......How could you.... xD

Owls look funny too when wet <3

  • One simple word can describe this.. Amazing!

  • Oh how SWEET! I just love all kinds of birds. You are so lucky and it is evident this owl must love you. Where is this? Do you allow guests?

  • @johnaustin80 Thank you. Sardis Raptor Center in Ferndale, WA. Generally, the educational birds are brought to special events thru out the state of WA, and the center is open only to volunteers. I'd look up wild bird rehabilitation in your area. There are many great facilities open to the public, and most often in need of additional volunteers..

  • cute ^^

  • Soooo adorable!

Irena Schulz - Bird Lovers Only

  • what a cutie!

  • he is definitely the coolest owl ever:) and how cute!! what a funny little guy...

  • Mote Man!! <3 him and his grouchy ways.

  • Oh. poor thing :( I'm sad to hear about his wing problem.

  • "Mote" has to be the most cute name for an owl I've ever heard.

  • He's so cute <3

    esp at 0:10 !!

  • soren!!! :D

  • Awwwwwwww. X)

  • and hes smart to know that the heater had heat adn used it to dry off

  • He's so adorable and gorgeous! I love how each barn owl has there own specific personality, and there all unique in there own way. It's so strange that he is afraid of the dark! I've never heard of anything like that in an owl. I'm planning on adopting a baby one in a few years, once I have a big enough space of my own. There such amazing animals. I've loved them ever since I was small. <3

  • Haha when he looks at the camera in the beginning he's like, "Oi! I don't film YOU when YOU'RE bathing!"

    Love him! So cute!

  • at the end of the video i think i've heard the sound of a cockatiel

  • @jin54363 Good ear! Yes, there was a cockatiel on the counter above.

  • what do u feed him?

  • @5SuperMeme Primarily unprocessed chicken donated from a poultry farm.

  • lol at 00:21 hes like "should i go back in?.....ya i should *splash* "

  • its sad that he can't fly. =( isnt it painful for him to move around with that condition?

  • Lol'd at 0:08 :3

He's just like INTENSE and then back to baths (:

  • What a champ

  • Please post more Mote videos!

  • wow! hes sure is special one isnt he? i love barn owls and he is so cute! the first owl i've heard of that is scared of the dark and of mice! haha! i hope he lives to have a long life! ^_^

  • This is, by far, the cutest owl ever! :) I want an owl so badly, you're lucky to be able to care for him! You must be doing a brilliant job at that, by the way, by keeping alive until 14. Be proud of your achievement and keep up the good work!

  • @Jamesss123456 Awww, thank you so much! But I can't take credit for all of his good care. There are and have been many amazing volunteers who look after all of the feathered guests and residents. Everyone falls in love with Mote.

  • lol it looks so frustrated when its feathers are all ruffled like that. how cute :)

  • why does he like taking baths?

  • He's so cute !

  • is he still alive? MAKE more vids

  • Just Watering the Owl. :D lol

  • A Barn owl living to 14? Thats like a cat living to 20!

  • @JohnMarsto2011 i met an 18 year old cat. healthy for the most part. but it was batshit crazy XD

  • @ohwellwhateverneverm I actualy had a cat that lived to 20

  • lol Its like "Im wet!? Oh my god Im wet! .. eewww my feathers ar wet!" XD

  • They dont live 3-4 years in the wild! Thats a huge exaggeration

  • @halloweenskystudios No it's not Barn owls live very short lives compared to other owls

  • @halloweenskystudios Sadly, you're right. 2 years at best. Thank you for the correction.

  • DITO KE LINDO!!!! how sweet!

  • what a wonderful owl. shame on the people who had him before--what were they thinking to keep this bird and then do a bigger disservice by not giving him the proper nutrition.

  • lol scared of mice. but hes soo cute.

  • sure seems like he's having a good time. good to see after reading the backstory. :)

  • aww ^^, what a handsome guy. He looks like he's enjoying himself

  • He has to be the sweetest thing I have seen all day. What a glorious wonderful bird.

  • Awww he's sooo cute!! It's a shame he was in the hands of uneducated owners. But its good to know there are good people out there like you that he can call family :) Congrats with Mote! !4! =D He looks soo happy!!

  • poor little thing ;'( Its unusual for a barn owl liking water but hes so cute though :)

  • @GogozRule its also unusual for an owl to be afraid of mice and the dark.

  • @carebearnmbr46 I agree

  • gorgeous! thank you for posting! I love that he is the ambassador, what a cutie!

  • What a beautiful little guy! I'm so glad there's someone to take proper care of him now. ^_^

  • Poor owl :_{

    He's a very beautiful bird

  • Sigh...He's so lovely....

  • This is just another great example of what reaching your hand out to help can do, I can not believe that this little guy is 14, Obviously the owner has taken good care of this guy, God Bless

  • @TheMusician2796 Thank you!!

  • aww he loves the splashes :)

  • awww! barn owls r my favorite owls! ( i luv all owls a lot but i gotta say barn owls r my fav! =D )
