How CGI is done today is to try to make it look real and fantastic rather than the reserved and stylish nature we see in these ads.
The problem with the current approach of CGI is that, for some reason, it doesn't quite look right (or real, for that matter), as if they're using CGI for more than it can realistically deal with, even with today's technology. It reaches the point of absurdity and implausibility that makes it difficult to suspend disbelief.
@Watcher3223 Thank you!! I am so glad I'm not the only one that feels the same way about today's CGI! CGI effects from the 80's always had that kind of charm that the 2000's never had to me, and I'd much rather look at this kind of stuff than today's. To me, the motion streaks, the brightness, the shine, and all the other things that make up 80's CGI are just more exciting to look at than the bland effects they have now!
