one of the very few things that's good about the hip hop industry is their willingness to work together with other artists. i think it would be awesome if punk would follow suit, and it's awesome that anti flag and billy talent have worked together on a couple of tracks.
Plus, it'll keep punk alive! Bigger bands need to support smaller ones!

Chris #2 is an insane bass player but Ian D'sa is way WAY better than Justin. You just haven't heard enough BT songs. Pretty much all of BT II is more difficult on guitar then any AF record. AF is basically all power chords with a few simple guitar riffs here and there. I can compare both bands seeing as I'm a fan of both and have heard a good portion of each of their songs. You on the other hand have clearly only heard BT's singles if you think they are musically inferior to AF.
Just because Anti-Flag is a punk band it doesn't mean they have to fucking use only power chords all the time. I know they do have riffs but all their chords are power chords where as Billy Talent experiment with different chords. And Billy Talent was influenced by mainly punk bands which is probably why they're such good friends with Anti-Flag. Billy Talent is way closer to punk rock then they are to screamo. Just because they have screaming in parts of their songs, doesn't make them screamo.
Except for they didn't play any of those instruments, theyt were all hired musicians except for the pianos done by Tony Visconti.I don't think Anit-Flag isn't talented, I love Anti-Flag. I'm just saying, Billy Talent is MORE talented.
I'm sure THEY didn't. Tony might of,but I'm near positive they didn't. You can write a harmonica part on guitar but when you play it on the harmonica it's still gonna sound like a guitar part. It takes someone who knows the instrument to write a part that fits the instrument.

There were two tracks that were basically pointless, neither of which ran over 30 seconds. And most of the other studio tracks on the EP were old B-sides from FBAE.
Yeah, alot of bands write suicide songs but it doesn't make the song any less meaningful. And do you have any idea how much airtime that single got? A dollar for every spin adds up fast.
Stop saying an entire album. It's an EP! It's an EP that they threw together with old bsides and live performances. Nothing to Lose is just one example. Alot of Billy Talent songs have meaningful lyrics, Nothing to Lose is just the first one that came to mind.
Not really, the only song that addressed violent crime on that EP was No Future. BT doesn't make generic songs. Just because they don't go into great detail doesn't make them generic. The way they write songs addresses general issues so it has a meaning but it can also be appreciated through different perspectives. This song's pretty generic too, it doesn't go into specific detail about the topic but you can still enjoy it and this way it makes you think what the artist was writing the song for.
I'm pretty sure the beginning kinda addresses the topic...
But this isn't really going anywhere, so you have fun with your power-pop bands like Sum-41. Maybe when you turn 12 you'll start listening to actual punk.

Wow. I was just reading random things about Ben on wikipedia when I saw that he sang for a Anti-Flag song and I figured it may be cool if he sang in it. And oh god, this song is intense. And it got be into a new band.

sure, some people may not like bens amazing vocals and the intense guitar, but thats no reason to say they suck.

All of Billy Talent's songs are good and all of Green Day's albums suck shit. All the members of Billy Talent are far superior to Green Day musically as well. All Green Day can do is overused power chords. And also, yes blink-182 is better then Green Day as well, but I won't get into that arguement.

Well, Green Day has nothing to do with this, but Billy Talent does, so that's why it's been said that Billy Talent is shitty.
It's not a bad song, but that's purely because everyone from Anti-Flag is a genius, and Ben was just told what to do by superior musicians.

Lmao obviously you're wrong, I play bass and guitar, and Chris #2 has more musical talent in his arm then all of Billy Talent, obviously Justin Sane is as genious, obviously Pat Thetic is seriously underrated ... I don't have anything good to say about Chris Head, he's not that special, but whatever.
Billy Talent has the opening lick on River Below, and that's pretty much it.
Also, I don't think it matters wether I play music or not, people in bands aren't the only ones who can appreciate music.

Chris #2 is an insane bass player but Ian D'sa is way WAY better than Justin. You just haven't heard enough BT songs. Pretty much all of BT II is more difficult on guitar then any AF record. AF is basically all power chords with a few simple guitar riffs here and there. I can compare both bands seeing as I'm a fan of both and have heard a good portion of each of their songs. You on the other hand have clearly only heard BT's singles if you think they are musically inferior to AF.

I own both of Billy Talents albums actually.
I liked their first album when I was in Gr 6, it was the first album I ever bought.
I felt like I had to buy the second album just because I felt I had to.
It was 100 times worse than the first. I still like some songs from the first CD, it's not bad. Voices of Violence isn't a bad song.
The reason Anti-Flag plays power chords is because they're a punk band, not some sort of screamo bullshit.

Just because Anti-Flag is a punk band it doesn't mean they have to fucking use only power chords all the time. I know they do have riffs but all their chords are power chords where as Billy Talent experiment with different chords. And Billy Talent was influenced by mainly punk bands which is probably why they're such good friends with Anti-Flag. Billy Talent is way closer to punk rock then they are to screamo. Just because they have screaming in parts of their songs, doesn't make them screamo.

Punk is a minimalist genre, it's as simple as that.
Power chords are the foundation of punk music.
Just because a band plays predominantly power chords doesn't mean they're not talented, it means they play predominantly power chords.
Also, I tend to hear a lot of piano, trumpet, violin, harmonicas and children's choirs in the new Anti-Flag album.
I think that's better than playing a G chord.

It doesn't talent to say "I want pinao in this song" or "I want harmonica in this song". If they didn't play the parts I doubt they wrote them.

I'm sure THEY didn't. Tony might of,but I'm near positive they didn't. You can write a harmonica part on guitar but when you play it on the harmonica it's still gonna sound like a guitar part. It takes someone who knows the instrument to write a part that fits the instrument.
And yes this is a good song, but it's DEFINATELY not the best Ben's been in. I'm not obsessed with Ben I just think comments like that sound stupid and childish.

I know i can't change your mind about how good this song is, but you have to agree with this:
With the possible exception of A Devil In A Midnight Mass, which addresses the issue of child molestation, this is the most meaningful song he's ever been a part of. And the thing is, Ben didn't set out to make a difference in the lives of people, he wrote about something evil because it fit the opening guitar riff.

Lol, I hope you don't mean 'A Benefit for Victims of Violent Crime'. It had 7 studio tracks, which in total, ran for a little over 12 minutes. There were two tracks that were basically pointless, neither of which ran over 30 seconds. And most of the other studio tracks on the EP were old B-sides from FBAE.
Yeah, alot of bands write suicide songs but it doesn't make the song any less meaningful. And do you have any idea how much airtime that single got? A dollar for every spin adds up fast.

Stop saying an entire album. It's an EP! It's an EP that they threw together with old bsides and live performances. Nothing to Lose is just one example. Alot of Billy Talent songs have meaningful lyrics, Nothing to Lose is just the first one that came to mind.

Not really, the only song that addressed violent crime on that EP was No Future. BT doesn't make generic songs. Just because they don't go into great detail doesn't make them generic. The way they write songs addresses general issues so it has a meaning but it can also be appreciated through different perspectives. This song's pretty generic too, it doesn't go into specific detail about the topic but you can still enjoy it and this way it makes you think what the artist was writing the song for.

I'm sure if you asked the punk community they would definately not consider Anti-Flag punk, since all the punks now refer to Anit-Flag as sellouts.
Sum 41 hasn't been punk pop for about 5 or 6 years now. Listen to Chuck, all of those songs are heavier then Anti-Flag songs. This arguement is going nowhere because you insist on saying BT is a bad band when everyone else clearly disagrees with you.
