This made me feel a little better about my RP1000 thats on the way being shipped...Still poses the question of 'actual amp channel switching' ....The RP1000 would be complete with the ability to CHANNEL CHANGE MY AMP to Clean with just a PRESET PUSH...so I can use MY CLEAN CHANNEL and/or MY OVERDRIVE....
@WyldeMagiK Unfortunately the RP1000 wont change amp channels. You will still need your amp's footswitch for this. BUT say you only wanted to use your amp for distortion only, you can still use the RP1000's internal preamps for the clean tones and switch back and forth.
@rikkbeatty yeah, but bending down during a show and pushing the darn button...other than that...Im liking it ....put away my midi setup temporarily using it live...
@WyldeMagiK I also was wondering if you could use one of the LOOPS as just an 'INPUT' ...(amp loop or stomp loop) to put my acoustic guitar into...Hmmmm....
This is such an amazing unit, the amp modelling is shockingly accurate, the effects are spot on and recording is a dream come true. Worth every penny. However don't expect it to be brilliant as soon as you switch it on... the presets sucked but hey that's most Multi-FX units.
This is why Digitech beats the Pod HD even with their "dated" RP series. The Pod HD500 isn't meant for this type of setup because it focuses on amp modeling. Not only does the RP1000 do modeling, but its main purpose was to be used with the 4 Cable Method, giving you tons of effects and great tube sound.
I recently got a Mesa Boogie Mark V combo! and the amp has an FX loop!... ok, so i can use the 4 cable method on my Boogie, perfect!. My question is, does the RP1000 works well with the EL34 and 6L6 tubes that my Mesa Boogie has?
I ask this cuz' those tubes are kind of "special" and even with the wrong settings they can blow up! LOL!
@290693mshp I have not tried it on that partticular amp but you should have no problems. Only thing to look for is whether the FX loop is parallel or series. A parallel loop will not work. It shouldn't affect the tubes at all. I am currently using one with an Ampeg GVT52 amplifier which runs 6L6 power amp tubes and 12AX7 pre amp tubes with no problems.
@rikkbeatty any way to make this work with a parallel FX loop? I am about to buy an Egnater Tweaker and the RP1000, but it seems that the Egnater has a parallel loop.. advise.. what are my choices?
@Bflatest Nope. It wont do any type of amp switching. BUT you can plug in external effects pedals and have them assigned to be pre or post and on or off per preset.
Hey Rikk,Just wanted tosay thanx for an awesome breakdown-the way you spelled that out totally clicks and makes awesome sense on how to best use the RP!

How do I record into protools via USB please. I have downloaded and installed the drivers on the digitech webpage for the rp1000 but this only given me the x-edit program and I can't work out how to select that driver as my input source in ProTools.
@guitarabuser567 That I am not sure of. From what I understand, the new Protools is not proprietary any longer so you should be able to use the RP1000 in it. Since you already downloaded the drivers, I think the next best bet would be to ask Protools help line how to select the RP1000 as the input device.
@Heka41 ROFL Oh no problem! I was just trying to figure out where you were comin from! lol Some guys are VERY traditional and dont use ANY effects. I mostly use the RP1000 for all the effects to add to the Thunderverb50's preamp section. It sounds HUGE! :-)
I'm using an old Fender Power Chorus 2x12 solid state, great power, not a lot of tone. On the back are two effects loop inputs -- preamp out and power amp in. Can I use the RP1000 with the 4 cable method?
@pltutor Yup. The Preamp Out is your "Send" and the Power Amp In is your "Return". I never understood why they labeled them like that but.... it works just the same. :-)
Question! If my amp (Marshall Haze) doesn't have an fx loop, could I run my guitar into the rp1000 and then straight into the PA mixer? Or Would there be a big feedback issue?
@SGpro13 You absolutely can do that. I have done that on several occasions myself when filling in with a band. Just use the monitors on stage as your stage volume and it sounds like a million bucks!
@maj27 Its all a balancing act of the individual preset volume, the Master Volume on the RP1000, and of course when using your amplifier's preamp, the amplifier's volume.
You guys have any idea if you need ts or trs connections for 4 cable method. I'm using a PedalSnake and need to buy the right "pigtails" or connections. Thanks for any info.
Thanks for the note back Rick..I have tried this however I was looking for a way to still preserve the preamp for the second or additional amps...If you have the ear of Digitech...a multi amp expansion option on their hgher end processors would be a great thing..
@DefToneFL Hmmmm well I have run a stereo setup using 2 of the same heads going through a full stack each before. The addition was really simple. When doing the 4 cable method you only use the "left" output on the back of the RP1000. So I also used the "right" output and plugged that into the "RETURN" of the 2nd amp. This carried my preamp signal from the first amp into the power section of the second amp. Essentially I was using 1 preamp from one head and both power amps. It worked great!
@hamzabinamin123 If the amplifier has no effects loop, you would run out of the RP1000 into the front of the amplifier (the amp input). You could then turn off the amp models of the RP1000 and just use the effects from it.
It can be plugged into any amplifier but in order to use the 4 cable method, it needs an amplifier that has an effects loop that is a SERIAL loop and not a PARALLEL loop.
Rikk why am i getting feedback problems. im using a peavey valve king amp with bufferd effect loop..i tryed 4 cables dont like the sound of my amp to week of distortion i.tryed 3 cables two in loop.. one to guitar bypassing the front . on pedal board setting sounds great. but to much feedback at loud volume ,also as i kill the distortion my cleans suffer .also the modeling amps sounds crappy . only the pedal mode sound good .just problems in loop could it be by amp.
@Destroyerrrrrr06 Right on man! It's one of the best processors I have ever used because it let's your guitar and amplifier's tone shine through and doesn't do anything to change it unless you want it to.
The rp1000 is like the swiss army knife of mfx processors....not only you can integrate it with your amp and pedals but as a standalone unit also it delivers really good tone.Great value for money for sure.
I just bought an rp1000 and I have a vox ad 50vt and it doesnt have a send and return on it. just a jack for footswitch, line/phone, and external speaker. my question is how can i use the 4 cable method with this amp?
@jayruss05 You can't use the 4 cable method on this amp but you can still use the processor. You will just plug it into the front of the amplifier and then choose whether or not you want the internal amp models on or not. If you turn the amp models off, it will be just like having a bunch of pedals and a switching system for your amp.
By running the rp1000 through the fx loop, with my extra delay pedal coming after it in the chain, by switching on or off the rp1000's amp loop, will it ONLY defeat the internal modeling of the rp1000, or will it also be switching off the delay pedal since it's in the same chain?

@JahsDisciple316 Yes the pedal will still work perfectly in that position due to the fact that the RP1000 is still routing all the internal time based effects to the effects loop in the back of the amplifier. You just have to hit the "Amp Loop" button on the face of the RP1000 to turn on/off the internal amp modeling.
Getting on an RP1000 in two weeks. Thanks for this vid! I'm planning on having a few additional pedals hooked in through the RP1000 that I normally run in my fx loop. I'm guessing using this method, if I run a cable from the RP1000 output "To amp FX Return", I can then link in an extra, say delay pedal (which I normally have running towards the end of my FX loop chain), and then in my amp's FX loop return?
@JahsDisciple316 You got it! I use pedals through the Stomp Loop but also have my JamMan Delay plugged in just as you stated and it works perfectly. You will LOVE the RP1000!!!
Hey Rikk I'm having some trouble with my RP1000. I plug everything just as you explain, but I get nothing. I can turn up my amp and pedal up really high, but it comes out real clean and to me it does not seem authentic. I tried different cables and still nothing. Please help I want to use my RP to it potential PS I'm using A Fender Hot-Rod Deluxe Thanks you ROCK!!
@deandimedof Hmmm... I guess the first thing to check would be that the cables are hooked up right.
Make sure the cable going from the RP1000's "From Amp FX Send" is plugged into the amplifier where it says "Preamp Out". From RP1000's "To Amp FX Return" into the amp where it says "Power Amp In". Then of course "To amp input" goes to the amp input. I used the Fender Hot-Rod Deluxe ALLOT on the road for clinics because most stores carried it and it had a great tone. Let me know if that helps.
How exactly do you set it up where one patch is your amps pre amp while another is the RP's? I have this unit and just hooked it in with the 4 cable method but I can't figure out how I store it to the patches. Say I wanted my footswitch number1 to be RP's pre but wanted switch 2 to be my amps??
@shane17thsun Once you have it set up in the 4 cable method, all you have to do is hit the button on the face of the RP1000 that says "Amp Loop" to bypass the internal preamp on the RP1000 and just use your amplifier's preamp. Then just hit the "Store" button to save it.
@omnitheory I used the I-Onix FW810 strictly as a recording interface. None of the DBX effects were used (as a matter of fact I did not even turn on the Lexicon mixer that has the DBX stuff). So basically the only thing that could have effected the tone over top of another recording interface was the DBX mic pre's. Thats about it! :-)

@RIPTOTHEJOSH04 Use the "Edit Up/Down" arrows to select the "Chorus/FX" line then turn the "Tone Library" knob until you have selected the Whammy pedal or pitch shifter. Then just adjust the parameters. You wont permanently change anything unless you hit the "Store" button.
@RIPTOTHEJOSH04 you can find the manual online just type in google RP1000 manual and you'll find it there... i forgot my manual in my parents old house when i moved out and so now i have to use that, but i've pretty much got everything memorize now
@mysillyfacevlogging Do not Ever use A VIDEO GAME TERM FOR Learning about GUITAR Pedal features ever again. When you don't Know you are just Novice. Call of duty awaits you lad.
@mysillyfacevlogging A parallel FX loop is an FX loop that runs your dry signal parallel with your effected signal. So you hear the original tone AND the effected tone at the same time. In order for the 4 cable method to work the way it was intended, you want to have a standard FX loop where you only hear the effected signal.
Thanks for the video Rikk! It greatly influenced my decision to buy the RP1000. I really like the unit, but I have had some problems with it. It works great with my Peavey 6505+, but I recently have tried it with a few other heads to no avail. I used it with a Randall RG200 and a Carvin Valve Master 100, both with the 4 cable method. When I use it with these heads the volume drop is significant when compared to just plugged in normal. Do you know what could cause this? Thanks.
@riotcrue I am not sure why it would do that but you can adjust the master volume knob on the RP1000 to match the volume of your amplifier. That way its the same volume as when you hit the bypass button. The master volume resets after you turn it off each time so you would just need to remember what number you turn it to on that particular amp so you can adjust it when you turn it back on.
Thanks Rikk! I just bought the RP1000 a few days ago, went through the manual, but I still had questions. This was one of them. You do a great job explaining. Very easy to understand! Thanks again!
@Asalazar77795 It absolutely will. I only know because I used it on one while out on the road when I did not have my amplifier handy! lol :-) I am sure you already know this but the FX Loop Send/Return is listed on the Fender as a "Power Amp Out and Pre Amp In".
Hey man can you please help me out I think my RP1000 came to me broken, It says in the manual to go to tone library and when i do it just goes right back to the amp bypass stuff,When i hpree the tone library i can see all the settings when i turn the knob and it shuts right off even with everything else on or off i'm getting confused and pissed at this thing and i don't know if it's broke or not Please help me out before i return this thing my local guitar center is 60 miles away
@bdoginit01 Are you using X-Edit or just editing on the face of the unit? To edit, you should be able to just hit the up or down edit buttons, pick the effect you want to edit, and use the knobs to edit. When you say it shuts off, do you mean the entire unit powers down when you turn the knob?
@rikkbeatty Say if i go to tone library and hit metal 2, it shows metal 2 on the screen for like 4 seconds and then goes right back to what i was previosly in when i was on Amp/Cabinet Bypass. I've had this thing for 3 months and i have only got to hear about a 1/4 of the effects on it. I'm a long time fan and user of Digitech but the RP 1000 is confusing me. And the manual don't really explain tone library very well on paige 5, Idk if it's me or the pedal lol
@6StringAxeMoFo Hmmm... I guess you could but the loop needs to be completed since the Stomp Loop was made to throw pedals either Pre or Post in the chain...
@6StringAxeMoFo No they do not. When using the 4 cable method you can use standard mono 1/4" cables. If plugging directly into a board you can use the balanced XLR outs.
hey rikk a couple question before i invest, i bought a orange th30 how well would the rp1000 work with my amp i heard someone say that the th30 does not take distortion pedals well, im also curious to know if my gibson les paul traditional pros sound /amazing sustain will be taken out of the equation if i use this pedal. Last question will this give me a zeppelin blues tone ive been searching for all my life!!! its the" i cant quit you baby" from the coda album blues rock at its finest.??? ty
@MrWildboy214 I played a show in Nashville using a TH-30 combo and my RP1000 and it sounded AMAZING!! The RP1000 was designed to integrate into your tone so you would retain the sound of the particular guitar and amplifier you are using. As for your last question, I have found I can get just about anyone's tone with this unit. As long as you see a similar amp/cab model in the RP1000 as what Page used, you can set up a preset to sound like his tone.
@Shoji86 I use both channels on my amp for distortion, so when I want a clean tone or a distortion sound like the JCM800 I have it hooked up with the 4 cable method to bypass my preamp and just use the power section of my amp so I can access the preamps inside the RP1000.
@Shoji86 Sorry I just re-read your post. You dont have to use the 4 cable method. You can just go out of the RP1000 straight into the Return of your amp's FX loop. If you use the 4 cable method though, you can chose per preset to either use your amp's preamp or the RP1000's preamp.
As far as I know you have to use the 1/4" outs if you are hooking it up using the 4 cable method. If you are just going to a PA or mixing console, you can use the XLR out. I have used this several times out on the road with a Hotrod Deluxe. You use the "Pre Amp Out" and "Power Amp In" as your FX Loop Send and Return. Hope that helps!
hey man I wanted to know does the RP500 have the 4 cable system? or just the 1000? was going to hook up mine to a plexi in hopes of being able to get a little more of a modern tone going... I was trying to decide between this and the gsp1100
@rikkbeatty Hey man I just got the RP 1000 and a 6505+ with the matching slant cab the other day, If it wasn't for this video I just seen I was gonna return the RP 1000 coz i couldn't figure out how to hook it up corectly thanks, I used to have the RP 2000 and was wondering if this has that many types of affects as well and how to get to them? and how do you get to the amp models also? If you could hit me up i'd appreciate it alot and thanks again for saving me from returning this
@bdoginit01 Awesome! Well I am glad you saw this video then! :-) The RP1000 has a TON of effects and amp and cab models. To access them, just use the edit up/down buttons to select what it is you want to edit (say for instance Delay). Then the knobs now control the strip next to the lit up LED you have selected. Also, if you install the X-Edit software (free download from DigiTech's website), and hook it up to your computer via USB, you will get an incredible easy to use editing interface!
@rikkbeatty Thanks for the reply man and also do you work for digitech and if so you should tell them to make a drum machine meaning only drums, I loved jammin to the drums on the RP 2000 but the beats were looped to short and I wish i could customize them and make my own beats
@rikkbeatty Ok you might think I'm an idiot but now when I see Metal 2 on the screen what do I do to click that on? everytime I turn it to Metal 2 and try to play with that or any other sound at that it just goes right back to Recto 1 and the first 4 settings, I don't want to push to many buttons and do something that might make it even harder for me to figure out, and I can't understand the instructions that came with it at all LOL,. Sorry for being a Pain in the Ass
@bdoginit01 Are you in Pedal Board mode or the standard mode? If "Metal 2" is a preset, you just have to click on a preset button (1-5 if you are in Pedal Board mode or 1-10 if you are in standard mode) to access it.
Thanks a lot Rikki. I know I sound like an ignorant but I can't find a clean preset except the By-pass, so the volume is useless :( Thanks for responding
@JOHNDIGITECH you have to create a blank preset by just going in and turning everything off. Make sure you have the Stomp Loop turned on and tell it whether you want it Pre or Post. That should do it!
Hi rikkbeatty.. is there a way to use for example a boss-acoustic simulator stompbox without affecting it at all... except by the volume of the rp1000????
Hey that's a great demo. I just bought the rp-500, but I cannot seem to get it to work in my effects loop. I have a marshall jvm410 and I love it's sound. But I really want a pedal to use for wahs, fuzzes, choruses, and reverbs. Does this have a true bypass when I am going straight into my amp? Does it come with cables or do I need to buy my own?
@timborocksloud With the RP500, you could just bypass the amp and cab models and just use the effects. Or with the RP1000 (which does come with a full cable kit now), you can hook it up using the 4 cable method and select per preset whether you want to use the internal amp models or your actual preamp from your amplifier.
Rikk you seem like a very nice guy and "for sure" you are a great demonstrator and skilled guitarist. Thank you for that demo buddy..and the valuable info.
Hey Rikkbeatty! OK, I finally decided to go with the Peavey 3120 amp head. Now I can get my RP1000. Thanks again for this video. BTW, any recommendations for a good speaker cabinet other than the Peavey 412 EX Slant Cabinet?
@MultiScoffer AWESOME! You will LOVE the RP1000! As for cabs... man thats a tricky situation. Every cab and speaker combination sounds different. I could recommend so many different ones but it really depends on the sounds you are looking for. My BEST suggestion would be to take the head into a music store and try it out with everything they have there until you find one that is perfect. Just like any other piece of gear, you want to make sure it sounds good with YOUR setup.
Rick - Thanks for the vids. My rig: RP1000, and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III 1x12. Right now the RP is front ending the HRD and I disable amps/cabs. Two questions.
1) I want to start using the 4 cable system for selective amps/cab sounds. Does this mean I have to re-do my patches and disable amp/cab in the patches where the Fender pre and post amp will be used? i.e. I can't keep the amp/cab bypass on selectively.
2) Do you recommend the clean channel for amp/cab simulation of high gain amps?
@christopherbenedetto If you use the 4 cable method, you program each preset to either use the amp loop or not. So yes you are able to use the amp/cab bypass selectively per preset. When using the 4 cable method, you are bypassing your amplifier's preamp & only using the power section of your amplifier. This is what gives you a more true sound of the amp model you are using. If you use your amplifier's clean channel you will be mixing preamps together & not get a true reproduction of the tone.
Good job! And by coincidence, I plan on getting the Orange Thunderverb 50 and the RP1000 this year(2011). Thanks for the demo. I'm going to bookmark it right now.
@MultiScoffer Yes you can. The BH100 head offers an effects loop that can be run either in series or parallel. You will want to run it in series when using the 4 cable method. If you run it in parallel, it will give you the amplifier's preamp along with the RP1000's at the same time which defeats the purpose of using the 4 cable method. But in short... yes that head will work nicely with the RP1000! Have fun! :-)
@rikkbeatty Thank you for your prompt response! I forgot to ask you will this method work with the Vox VT100 combo amp? In all honesty, I'm trying to decide which amp to buy between the two on Friday. Both are great amps but which one will work best with the RP1000 or does it really doesn't matter? BH100 amp head or the Vox VT100?
@MultiScoffer The VT100 has an effects loop but I can not find anywhere if it is a series or parallel effects loop. This is something you would want to ask before purchasing. Most amps that have a parallel effects loop will offer you the ability to switch it to a series loop but I would just make sure before you buy. Hope that helps!
@MichaelBower93 I'm sure you'd get an answer by Rikk Beatty himself as soon as he saw your post, but, since I happened to see it first, I'm just going to use Rikk's own words, responding to the same question, a while ago, further down this page: "Unfortunately the RP1000 does not have the ability to switch channels on your amplifier. But you can select the amp loop feature per preset and design presets that turn it on and off and go between your amp's preamp and the preamps in the RP1000."
@MichaelBower93 No it will not change the channel on your amplifier. BUT you can either have the footcontrol for your amp next to the RP1000 or you can keep the amp on 1 tone and use the internal preamps on the RP1000 for everything else.
Where can I get that background music!!!

@Rikkbeatty, I have a Carvin Legacy amp and it's very loud. Too loud actually.
Is it alright to use the 4CM and keep the amp in the sweet spot, but use the volume on the RP1000 to limit overall output?
Will I still get the true tone of my amp, only quieter?
Thanks

This is why Digitech beats the Pod HD even with their "dated" RP series. The Pod HD500 isn't meant for this type of setup because it focuses on amp modeling. Not only does the RP1000 do modeling, but its main purpose was to be used with the 4 Cable Method, giving you tons of effects and great tube sound.

guitarabuser567 5 months ago
@guitarabuser567 That I am not sure of. From what I understand, the new Protools is not proprietary any longer so you should be able to use the RP1000 in it. Since you already downloaded the drivers, I think the next best bet would be to ask Protools help line how to select the RP1000 as the input device.

Heka41 5 months ago
@Heka41 ROFL Oh no problem! I was just trying to figure out where you were comin from! lol Some guys are VERY traditional and dont use ANY effects. I mostly use the RP1000 for all the effects to add to the Thunderverb50's preamp section. It sounds HUGE! :-)

@rikkbeatty great playing on this video btw
Heka41 5 months ago
Rik,
I'm using an old Fender Power Chorus 2x12 solid state, great power, not a lot of tone. On the back are two effects loop inputs -- preamp out and power amp in. Can I use the RP1000 with the 4 cable method?
pltutor 6 months ago
@pltutor Yup. The Preamp Out is your "Send" and the Power Amp In is your "Return". I never understood why they labeled them like that but.... it works just the same. :-)

Question! If my amp (Marshall Haze) doesn't have an fx loop, could I run my guitar into the rp1000 and then straight into the PA mixer? Or Would there be a big feedback issue?
SGpro13 6 months ago
@SGpro13 You absolutely can do that. I have done that on several occasions myself when filling in with a band. Just use the monitors on stage as your stage volume and it sounds like a million bucks!

Wow thanks for the demo, it's awesome sounds sooo sweet!:D
i've got a question... i've a Fender frontman 212r solid state amp (combo)
I want a Digitech RP1000, but can i use the 4 cable method on my Fender, i mean
the 4 cable method works good with my solid state amp?
Thanks for the video

666patrickbateman666 6 months ago
ive noticed using the 4 cable connections lowers the volume output of my amp! Although very nice but lowers the volume, how to fix that??
maj27 6 months ago
@maj27 Its all a balancing act of the individual preset volume, the Master Volume on the RP1000, and of course when using your amplifier's preamp, the amplifier's volume.

Thanks for the note back Rick..I have tried this however I was looking for a way to still preserve the preamp for the second or additional amps...If you have the ear of Digitech...a multi amp expansion option on their hgher end processors would be a great thing..
DefToneFL 6 months ago
Any ideas on how to do the 4 Cable method with multiple amps and still be able to use each amps preamp?
DefToneFL 6 months ago
@DefToneFL Hmmmm well I have run a stereo setup using 2 of the same heads going through a full stack each before. The addition was really simple. When doing the 4 cable method you only use the "left" output on the back of the RP1000. So I also used the "right" output and plugged that into the "RETURN" of the 2nd amp. This carried my preamp signal from the first amp into the power section of the second amp. Essentially I was using 1 preamp from one head and both power amps. It worked great!

how can i connect it to line 6 spider 4 15w?
hamzabinamin123 7 months ago
@hamzabinamin123 If the amplifier has no effects loop, you would run out of the RP1000 into the front of the amplifier (the amp input). You could then turn off the amp models of the RP1000 and just use the effects from it.
rikkbeatty 7 months ago
It can be plugged into any amplifier but in order to use the 4 cable method, it needs an amplifier that has an effects loop that is a SERIAL loop and not a PARALLEL loop.

Destroyerrrrrr06 8 months ago
@Destroyerrrrrr06 Right on man! It's one of the best processors I have ever used because it let's your guitar and amplifier's tone shine through and doesn't do anything to change it unless you want it to.
rikkbeatty 8 months ago
@72Wonderbread Sure that would work. I would bypass the amp and cab models though and just use the RP500 for the effects in that setup.
rikkbeatty 8 months ago
The rp1000 is like the swiss army knife of mfx processors....not only you can integrate it with your amp and pedals but as a standalone unit also it delivers really good tone.Great value for money for sure.

I just bought an rp1000 and I have a vox ad 50vt and it doesnt have a send and return on it. just a jack for footswitch, line/phone, and external speaker. my question is how can i use the 4 cable method with this amp?
jayruss05 9 months ago
@jayruss05 You can't use the 4 cable method on this amp but you can still use the processor. You will just plug it into the front of the amplifier and then choose whether or not you want the internal amp models on or not. If you turn the amp models off, it will be just like having a bunch of pedals and a switching system for your amp.

By running the rp1000 through the fx loop, with my extra delay pedal coming after it in the chain, by switching on or off the rp1000's amp loop, will it ONLY defeat the internal modeling of the rp1000, or will it also be switching off the delay pedal since it's in the same chain?
JahsDisciple316 9 months ago

JahsDisciple316 9 months ago

JahsDisciple316 9 months ago
@JahsDisciple316 You got it! I use pedals through the Stomp Loop but also have my JamMan Delay plugged in just as you stated and it works perfectly. You will LOVE the RP1000!!!

Hey Rikk I'm having some trouble with my RP1000. I plug everything just as you explain, but I get nothing. I can turn up my amp and pedal up really high, but it comes out real clean and to me it does not seem authentic. I tried different cables and still nothing. Please help I want to use my RP to it potential PS I'm using A Fender Hot-Rod Deluxe Thanks you ROCK!!
deandimedof 9 months ago
@deandimedof Hmmm... I guess the first thing to check would be that the cables are hooked up right.
Make sure the cable going from the RP1000's "From Amp FX Send" is plugged into the amplifier where it says "Preamp Out". From RP1000's "To Amp FX Return" into the amp where it says "Power Amp In". Then of course "To amp input" goes to the amp input. I used the Fender Hot-Rod Deluxe ALLOT on the road for clinics because most stores carried it and it had a great tone. Let me know if that helps.
rikkbeatty 9 months ago
How exactly do you set it up where one patch is your amps pre amp while another is the RP's? I have this unit and just hooked it in with the 4 cable method but I can't figure out how I store it to the patches. Say I wanted my footswitch number1 to be RP's pre but wanted switch 2 to be my amps??
shane17thsun 9 months ago
@shane17thsun Once you have it set up in the 4 cable method, all you have to do is hit the button on the face of the RP1000 that says "Amp Loop" to bypass the internal preamp on the RP1000 and just use your amplifier's preamp. Then just hit the "Store" button to save it.

How much does the Lexicon I Onyx FX810s play into what we hear here?

@omnitheory I used the I-Onix FW810 strictly as a recording interface. None of the DBX effects were used (as a matter of fact I did not even turn on the Lexicon mixer that has the DBX stuff). shredabilly13 10 months ago
@mysillyfacevlogging A parallel FX loop is an FX loop that runs your dry signal parallel with your effected signal. So you hear the original tone AND the effected tone at the same time. In order for the 4 cable method to work the way it was intended, you want to have a standard FX loop where you only hear the effected signal.
rikkbeatty 10 months ago
Thanks for the video Rikk! It greatly influenced my decision to buy the RP1000. I really like the unit, but I have had some problems with it. It works great with my Peavey 6505+, but I recently have tried it with a few other heads to no avail. I used it with a Randall RG200 and a Carvin Valve Master 100, both with the 4 cable method. When I use it with these heads the volume drop is significant when compared to just plugged in normal. Do you know what could cause this? Thanks.
riotcrue 10 months ago
@riotcrue I am not sure why it would do that but you can adjust the master volume knob on the RP1000 to match the volume of your amplifier. That way its the same volume as when you hit the bypass button. The master volume resets after you turn it off each time so you would just need to remember what number you turn it to on that particular amp so you can adjust it when you turn it back on.
Hope that helps!

bdoginit01 11 months ago
@bdoginit01 Are you using X-Edit or just editing on the face of the unit? To edit, you should be able to just hit the up or down edit buttons, pick the effect you want to edit, and use the knobs to edit. When you say it shuts off, do you mean the entire unit powers down when you turn the knob?
rikkbeatty 11 months ago
@rikkbeatty Say if i go to tone library and hit metal 2, it shows metal 2 on the screen for like 4 seconds and then goes right back to what i was previosly in when i was on Amp/Cabinet Bypass. I've had this thing for 3 months and i have only got to hear about a 1/4 of the effects on it. I'm a long time fan and user of Digitech but the RP 1000 is confusing me. And the manual don't really explain tone library very well on paige 5, Idk if it's me or the pedal lol

@6StringAxeMoFo Hmmm... I guess you could but the loop needs to be completed since the Stomp Loop was made to throw pedals either Pre or Post in the chain...
rikkbeatty 11 months ago
@6StringAxeMoFo No they do not. When using the 4 cable method you can use standard mono 1/4" cables. If plugging directly into a board you can use the balanced XLR outs.

hey rikk a couple question before i invest, i bought a orange th30 how well would the rp1000 work with my amp i heard someone say that the th30 does not take distortion pedals well, im also curious to know if my gibson les paul traditional pros sound /amazing sustain will be taken out of the equation if i use this pedal. Last question will this give me a zeppelin blues tone ive been searching for all my life!!! its the" i cant quit you baby" from the coda album blues rock at its finest.??? ty
MrWildboy214 1 year ago
@MrWildboy214 I played a show in Nashville using a TH-30 combo and my RP1000 and it sounded AMAZING!! The RP1000 was designed to integrate into your tone so you would retain the sound of the particular guitar and amplifier you are using. As for your last question, I have found I can get just about anyone's tone with this unit. As long as you see a similar amp/cab model in the RP1000 as what Page used, you can set up a preset to sound like his tone.
rikkbeatty 1 year ago
rikki do you have to use the four cable method to bypass the preamp section of your amp?
Shoji86 1 year ago
@Shoji86 I use both channels on my amp for distortion, so when I want a clean tone or a distortion sound like the JCM800 I have it hooked up with the 4 cable method to bypass my preamp and just use the power section of my amp so I can access the preamps inside the RP1000.
rikkbeatty 1 year ago
@rikkbeatty are you using Cabinet simulator?
TheJozhera 11 months ago
@Shoji86 Sorry I just re-read your post. You dont have to use the 4 cable method. You can just go out of the RP1000 straight into the Return of your amp's FX loop. If you use the 4 cable method though, you can chose per preset to either use your amp's preamp or the RP1000's preamp.
rikkbeatty 1 year ago
As far as I know you have to use the 1/4" outs if you are hooking it up using the 4 cable method. If you are just going to a PA or mixing console, you can use the XLR out. I have used this several times out on the road with a Hotrod Deluxe. You use the "Pre Amp Out" and "Power Amp In" as your FX Loop Send and Return. Hope that helps!

If you could hit me up i'd appreciate it alot and thanks again for saving me from returning this
bdoginit01 1 year ago
@bdoginit01 Awesome! Well I am glad you saw this video then! :-) The RP1000 has a TON of effects and amp and cab models. To access them, just use the edit up/down buttons to select what it is you want to edit (say for instance Delay). Then the knobs now control the strip next to the lit up LED you have selected. Also, if you install the X-Edit software (free download from DigiTech's website), and hook it up to your computer via USB, you will get an incredible easy to use editing interface!

Sorry for being a Pain in the Ass
bdoginit01 1 year ago
@bdoginit01 Are you in Pedal Board mode or the standard mode? If "Metal 2" is a preset, you just have to click on a preset button (1-5 if you are in Pedal Board mode or 1-10 if you are in standard mode) to access it.

Thanks.
timborocksloud 1 year ago
@timborocksloud With the RP500, you could just bypass the amp and cab models and just use the effects. Or with the RP1000 (which does come with a full cable kit now), you can hook it up using the 4 cable method and select per preset whether you want to use the internal amp models or your actual preamp from your amplifier.

2) Do you recommend the clean channel for amp/cab simulation of high gain amps?
christopherbenedetto 1 year ago
@christopherbenedetto If you use the 4 cable method, you program each preset to either use the amp loop or not. So yes you are able to use the amp/cab bypass selectively per preset. When using the 4 cable method, you are bypassing your amplifier's preamp & only using the power section of your amplifier. This is what gives you a more true sound of the amp model you are using. If you use your amplifier's clean channel you will be mixing preamps together & not get a true reproduction of the tone.
