  • from 0:14 to 1:14 when you look at lang lang face, he ooks like if he would think "I have no idea what this man is talking about" barenboim also seems to be a bit puzzled.

  • Baremboim's expertise is ne plus ultra

  • thanks!!! :-))

(but) this must be written into the title-Box

  • I have to give LL credit, it's very brave at this point in his career to admit that he has something to learn from a great pianist like Barenboim, and to do it on camera.

But -- all the details that Barenboim is adding to LL's performance here are precisely the things that make a very familiar piece like the Appassionata worth listening to one more time. If you can't already play with that level of subtlety and refinement, how do you have the nerve to perform in public?

  • @ivelosthewilltolive I hear you. If conductors don't hear the meaning of the score, the changes taking place in the music, moving always to speak with absolute intimacy and the greatest power, how do they have the nerve to present anything at all to the public? Because not even the orchestra players themselves know what's missing, here the lack of meaning when it isn't there. LangLang doesn't hear what B hears. But if you hear it, you will give it, even if you lack some technique.

  • I know from a pianist that studied with Arcadi Volodos that Volodos can play all the Beethoven sonatas by ear!!! He remebered them just by listening and he can play all of them without ever having seen the score. Now that's impressive! It also took him only 2 days to learn and master the rachmaninov third pianoconcerto...not bad for a guy that started seriously when he was about 15 years old. And he's humble that's something noble. He doesn't show off. Iam not sure Lang Lang has that quality...

  • Mr. L. Lang appears ill-suited to the greatest composer. Mr. B is not.

  • Maestro Barenboim is clever, able, sensitive, he's a generous person too.

He's knows what, when and how. He so gifted of qualities that to me he's one of the sexiest men in the world!!

  • thank u very much for sharing!i could ve attend Barenboims seminars only in my dreams!its amazing opportunity to learn from such a great musician..Lang Lang is very good also ..GB

  • It is truly amazing to see Lang Lang so peaceful and completely careful with Beethoven. It just does not seem like him, if he does not brush the whole keyboard with his hair...

  • 9:15 looks like Lang didnt read the score carefully!

  • Barenboim doesn't look like he's sincere... He looked so bored in the first vid....

  • its amazing how Barenboim plays with such ease and made the song sounds like its floating on air... so beautiful~

  • The old one note crescendo -- I love it!

  • @manuelspcool could you write that in English for me (or French or German)?

  • @amadeusmozzart merci! C'est gentil! (Que t'as traduit ca, pas ce qu'il dit)

  • I'd pay ANYTHING to have Barenboim as my piano teacher - the man is an absolute genius!

  • Which piece are they playing, excuse me the ignorance

  • @sebastianrc

    Beethoven's 'Apassionata' sonata.

  • @sebastianrc appasionata

  • @sebastian hehe didnt notice the answer

  • @tsjk never mind haha, thanks anyway

  • I am not a fan of Lang Lang but I also don't think having a so big ego in playing is wrong (every pianist has big ego)

Looking at an old pianist teaching a young pianist is very interesting and touching...haha

  • Barenboims point is excellent, he just cant bring it across to the best of his ability

  • Barenboim is great... He plays, looks to Lang Lang and explains contemprorarely!

  • they are cool!!

  • Actally, MasterAzunai, you're far too kind. The statement that Daniel Barenboim is a "phony piano-player (conductor)" is not a matter of opinion. Rather, it's a matter of record that Barenboim is one of the most renowned and prestigious pianists in the history of the world. One might prefer the interpretation of Gould or Rubinstein to that of Barenboim, and many do, but there's no dispute among educated people that Barenboim is an extremely talented pianist and conductor.

  • oops again. I accidentally marked you as spam.

But I don't agree with you at all! Just so you know, Lang Lang, ADORES Barenboim, and has taken lessons and more master classes with him than just this one.

Barenboim played his first beethoven piano sonata cycle at seventeen by the way. And has won 5 or 6 grammys.

Watch Barenboim's version of the Appasionata and the 32 sonata, and I think you will change your mind.

I mean no offense at all, your entitled to an opinion, I just disagree.

  • Lang lang takes this really well, you really need to put away your ego, which must be tremendously difficult for the world's most recognized//loved/disliked pianist.

  • it's part of how he got where he is - study skills

  • I totally agree. I never thought Lang Lang would take lessons from anyone. His ego looks so big when he plays, but now, he is really listening to Barenboim. I'd say, I have to put Lang Lang in a higher notch of my favorite piano players.

  • @haruncenani

It is obvious that Lang Lang is not only paying attention but also understands what Barenboim is trying to convey. At several points, Lang Lang gives the appropriate answer before Barenboim has even finished his explication.

Even if you're not a fan of Lang Lang (and there's nothing wrong with that per se), he still has 100 times the amount of musical training and understanding that you do. You cannot become a concert pianist based on technical skill alone. Idiot.

  • @lmaka1 Whatever you think, it's never a good way to call a person an "idiot". I do wish we could chat longer but you seem to be out of polite words for a chat.

  • Barenboim has become half God !!!

  • @Pianda Chicago, USA. July 2005.

  • This genius is Argentinian and i'm DAMN PROUD OF IT!!

  • HAHAHA....I love the way lang lang looks at barenboim whenhe finished playing as if to say "What do you think...did I do good?" HAAHA

  • really, really interesting stuff.
