Rogers Samsung Captivate: How to update to Android 2.2 through Kies

Im at the part where it says Downloading and you see the android robot and it says not to trun off

How long will it take to update? i've been waiting a hour already and no signs of it done ;_;

Ok Thanks for the video, but in my case, the same program indicate what to do in order to update(the modem in the phone)in that part, a windows pop up,

" it says" Unplug the usb cable, take the battery out, put it in, make sure the phone is off, Hold the Up and down Volume, make sure the phone is in download mode, plug the usb cable in" after that You will see the yellow Androi logo and the updating keep going to the end... Rogers captivate..

i have the newest version of kies andd the newest version of kies mini and it recognizes my phone in mini and it detects my phone in kies but will sit there in "connecting" mode..any helps?

anyone try downloading the new kies software...any good? what about kies mini?? it seems a lil better so far (it has gathered all my media from my computer..some things i havent seen in months lol) seems it might be a very useful tool

I am using this cell in India with the 2.1 in it. I got it from US and got it unlocked. Now i was wondering whether i can update it via Samsung Kies or wait till its out in US.

what if kies doesn't recognize your device and i keep getting the damn MTP device thingy keeps popping up... any help?

@2milehigh I was having a hell of a time getting Kies to recognize my phone, and after downloading multiple versions thinking it was because I am running Win7 64-bit, the solution was simple/stupid...All I needed to do was use a USB port at the back of my computer, not the front. It was the exact same thing on my wifes computer. The front USB ports on my PC work with every single device I have other than Kies...WTF?? Anyways try that bro and get back to me. I.Hate.Kies

@gunstar1981 well, i put it in media mode and it seemed to help to transfer files over to the captivate. But whenever i try Kies it tells me that my device isn't supported. Did you get your Captvate working with it?

@gunstar1981 I have tried everything to get this bloody thing to work..I never would have thought to use the connection from the back of the PC, I never thought it would make a difference.(the way my computer is positioned..it was a huge hassle, I was ready to start cussing like mad if it didn't work).I've been using wifi to add and remove files instead of the usb cable which is handy,but you cant update off wifi. Thx man,now I can start growing back the hair I pulled out trying to get it to wrk

@gunstar1981 dude you made my day bruh! I was spinning my wheels all yesterday trying to figure out why Kies wouldnt work right with my phone. It came right up after I plugged into the back of my pc. You are awesome!! Thank you!! -Dave

Thank You for taking the time to make this video. Unbelievable how you have to do something that the software explicitly says not to do (unplug and go into DL mode) to get this update to work.

Samsung./Android will never lead with software upgrades this complicated.

As I suspected the GPS is Still lost. has no accurate idea of where I am and makes for unusable Navigation. Time to call Rogers.

@SiRDOHC No problem man. Yeah Kies is complete junk and Samsung should really reach out to a good developer and create some better software. Glad the video helped : )

After the update the ability to transfer from the internal memory card to a PC is Lost.

Gonna do a full reset when I get the chance. It better solve this problem that was the main reason I did not want an APPLE IPHONE!

@SiRDOHC I can transfer data from the internal SD card to the PC just fine after the update, just as I did before...Strange you can not : /

i just finished doing the update, with the help from a friend and id just like to mention after i started the update i just let it install until it was 3/4 done. At that point an error message came on saying it Failed, thats when i unplugged my phone, turned it off then held the vol up and vol dwn buttons in and plugged back in. It finished installing and everything works as it should.

so at what point did the phone become disconnected from the usb

@MrBlueomega Right after it says "installing, don't disconnect"...Disconnect, hold volume up and down, and plug the USB cable in. It should auto start and show an Android figure in a yellow triangle with a shovel and the phone will be in download mode and the update will be installed.

@MrBlueomega Oh also your going to shut the phone down as soon as you unplug, then do the volume thing and plug the cable in.
