  • WTF would you play with 17 other ppl on the lynx???

  • @cincinatus90 yup! haha kind of funny, i imagine 17 people sitting in a room and play Lynx, and sudddenly someone of them have to go to the restroom. But instead of everyone have to pausing the game he simply flip the screen upside down (using the flip button) and hand it over to his buddy.. Wonder if Atari thinked the same? ;D

  • @Hageltrast haha! But really! What game can you play with 17 other people?! I mean, they advertized it so there must be at least one game capable. Do you have any idea what it might be?

  • I had the newer model when I was 11 which was 1991, I used to wake up an hour early on school days and play California games under my blanket in bed.. I was obsessed with it.

  • @fatriff Did you brag to the Game Boy owners how you have color?

  • This was a great review. Amateur reviewers usually pause with the whole, "Uhhh..." between their sentences, which is annoying.

    Kudos. :D

  • You don't have TOKI? I bought the console yesterday (eBay), just to play this game

  • you talk too much get to the freaking review already buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i saw one for $80 :-(

  • I remember playing this at a kiosk in Sears. Blown away by the color, I don't think the Game Gear was out yet. But then I looked at the games for it and I was not familiar with much. Amazing how big it is these days, back then, it was considered small.

  • y was all the gameboy competition in color with a back lite yet the game boy one

  • @bland9876 The Game Boy was cheaper and had Nintendo's name recognition, and the battery lasted longer.

  • @ryujijitei And tha atari name didn't have recognition. Dude. The atari 2600 is one of the best selling consoles ever made :P.

  • @winnetouch Consider that Atari helped cause the crash of 1983, and Nintendo singlehandedly revitalized the market with the NES.

  • @ryujijitei You can't say that atari lost on reputation because of the video game crash. Atari didn't do anything wrong to be part of the cause of the crash. The market was just oversaturated with videogames and home consoles so the market crashes. Sega was also in direct competiton to nintendo at the time, so you can't say that nintendo did anything singlehandedly but it is true it's the only survivor of the time.

  • my friend game me the model 2 because he already had a model 1 lol

    im happy

  • Comment removed

  • High Definition Graphics. The first HD handheld in 1989.

  • Can you also flip it to the side or only left handed and right handed? In the advertisement the hold it on its side. I like how Alien vs Predator has the Waylan Yutani logo on it :)

  • Can play with a lot more players then 16 on the gameboy but only 1 I believe supports it.

  • Great system from Atari, never did get to try it. I saw kid playing one back in the day and that was my only time I ever saw one. It was so ahead of it's time (not something that Atari accomplished very often). Did Epyx design the model 2?

  • Damn i really want an atari lynx 2 ill have to get one on ebay. Great review

  • Can someone explain to me what that give away thing is?

  • you could build a whole snes or N64 in it lol or maybe a ps1

  • My brother had one of those, I played it more than he did, I used to play batman returns on it, one of the hardest games I've ever played but the music on it was awesome

Edit: I posted that before you finished the video haha, I had the pit fighter and checkered flag game, I think I had a soccer game too but man that thing was pretty cool

  • My brother had one of those, I played it more than he did, I used to play batman returns on it, one of the hardest games I've ever played but the music on it was awesome

  • Wow I had this back than...with Crystal Mines 2 I think it was called..remember playing it in bed instead sleeping as I should have..

  • Some serious bullshit goin on in the first 3 minutes of the video, come on man, the only people who care about that are the people you are actually adressing, you could just e-mail these people and not waste peoples time, or at least give like a time frame to where the actual review of the Lynx starts.

  • @BelaFleckPhan i agree.

  • ATARI LYNX IS SO RAD!

  • 3:27 tp skip beginning

  • Good video, I subbed.

So man, that lynx had good graphics, and rampage, Hell yeah!

  • the only way to carry this handheld is in a pair of Tripp NYC gothic pants. LMAO, i think Hot Topic still sells them :P

  • I had a Lynx and I actually loved it. It was a really good portable imo. Just expensive as games.

  • zee-no-fobe

  • u look half black half white r u?!

  • i used to have one, i rebember playing something like after burner, a batman game or something like that.

  • you sound like that deep voiced guy from classic game room.

  • im thinking about getting the neo geo pocket color the sega game gear or the lynx what do you think i should get

  • YOU DON HAVE ROADBLASTERS!!! great game that is

  • Pit Fighter is the worst game ever made, it's not by any means "ok"

  • what? on the box(top left) it says High Definiteion Graphics........false advertising lol

  • I bought a secondhand one of these in 1997. It came with the battery pack which used 6 D cell batteries and latested a lot longer. Did you ever get the comlynx cable?

  • What happened to the sides of your lynx?

  • im not sure anymore.. i think i got mine for 50 bucks with pretty much games.

  • Damn I remember getting this for my bday as a kid with some cop game lol. Good ish

  • the atari lynx was a extreamly superpowerfull hardware for it,s time,i cut even do things like sprite scaling and polygons wich even the snes can,t do without a fxchip.

the game yosis island used the fx chip for sprite scaling, polygons and increasing speed.

  • I've watched and enjoyed a lot of these videos, but I really have a problem with this review. When the Lynx came out it was mind blowing. The games were awesome!!! Slime World, Warbirds, Scrapyard Dog, and Gates of Zindocon were incredible

  • Link up with a friend, pop in Slime world, drop a mega bomb in your buddies room, then hit the road, I promise you will shit your pants laughing when you hear the explosion come from his speaker. Sounds like Gamester is a little biased to the gameboy, I understand, I'm biased to the lynx.

  • Whoa buddy, over three minutes into the vid and you haven't even started the review. Not to mention your video techniques have a real lack of imagery and uncomfortable sound. I will not be watching the rest of this and my ears are thanking me because your voice is not TV worthy, or YoutTube worthy at that matter.

  • how do I enter these fun contest?

  • damn if you want any review of the lynx your gonna have to skip to somewhere around 3:25.

  • Wow, Shadow of the Beast? I had that for the Amiga back in the day. Psygnosis made some really cool stuff.

  • have you heard of "time quests and treasure chests" for lynx?...it's a gauntlet clone...i don't know if it was ever released

  • your very heavy handed

  • at 4:47 you can see the lynx 1 and 2

  • Lithium batteries last a long time with the Atari Lynx.

  • Damn that handheld is big!

  • One one my all time Favorite games for the Lynx has to be Slime World , just an all around amazing game , if you don't have it I would get . Just Awesome !!

  • Are you saying that this Lynx which came out in 1989 was as powerful as the Genesis (released in 1988)?

  • These where 20 years before there time, but cool review dude.

  • hey dude, I must've completely missed this video before! Thanks for the shoutout! BTW I'm doing more themes now, I did JBINEUX's new theme(I don't think it's up yet but he should have it up in a few days.

  • i'm left handed and i'd suck playing it in the "apparently" left handed position

  • do you own a Nintendo 64DD which is a disc drive for the n64 last time i saw it on ebay it was 602 bucks!!!

  • @gnoe234 Yeah I do, it was the very first video I did actually.

  • @Gamester81 Dude, you remind me of Mark from Classic Game Room HD. Almost like your cousins.

  • @Gamester81 Do you have Toki? You have to get that game, that was one of my favourites when I was a kid with this lol

  • @Gamester81 where can i get one?

  • @gnoe234 there no such thing its probly a prototype

  • @JZDestruction umm youre wrong the 64 dd is actually a console that did terribly bad and only a few where made and sold only in japan

  • @gnoe234 i bough one with all 10 games and keyobard (100% everything sealed) for 1500$

  • @gnoe234 what discs would that play

  • @bland9876 only 64DD discs only ten games were made

  • @gnoe234 Nine, actually.

And only 15,000 units were released. :-(

  • Your videos are class im a big gamer fan only startn my collection

  • lol, apple did the same thing with naming there oses after cats. (Panther, Jaguar, Tiger)

  • hey gamester, been enjoying the videos for quite a while - keep it up, I check out the NEStalgiaholic channel too as well.

  • This Comment Was Brought To You By Google:

Play That Alien Vs Predator Game,I Never Seen It.

Great Review,I Have A Linx But It Died:(

  • It is also interesting to note that the Atari Lynx was developed by Dave Needle and R.J. Mical, who also developed the 3DO. Both the Atari Lynx and the 3DO are great consoles, but highly underrated, mainly due to a few drawbacks like the high price, battery life, and size of the Lynx; and the high price of the 3DO. However, what really did both consoles in were the lack of third party support, and poor marketing, which both will usually kill any console within a short time.

  • Great review, Gamester! The Atari Lynx is one of my favorite handheld systems despite the fact that it was a commercial failure. I have a model 1, and I always saw that the headphone jack was rather unnecessary because the system only supported mono sound. I used to have a model 2, but it broke after trying to repair the speaker, which was blown out when I first got it. The model 2 is a lot better because of the stereo sound support, power indicator, and somewhat longer battery life.

  • I've never had the chance to play a Lynx. Never knew anyone growing up that had one, unfortunately. The sound effects in the Blue Lightning game seemed really annoying. haha

  • Didn't want a Super Nintendo??? Is he trying to kick a gaming addiction or what?

  • must be a problem with the top buttons over the sound ey? Might wanted to add that Game Boy was also mono while playing without headphones - which was most of the time? Fuck me it is nice for me as a left-handed!!! :D

  • lol I own the Lynx, but rarely played it. I can't believe I sat through your video since I already own the thing, but it's a testament to your videos that it kept me interested! Thx! hehe I almost want to dig it out of my back room.

  • Great review man, but theres a game u really need to add to ur collection. You need Chips Challenge. If u havent played it, then i describe it as the best puzzle game I have ever played. Its a long game too

  • I got an Atari Lynx a year and a Half ago, it's a model one and I didn't know it was common to find it with the paint worn off as in mine the paint is still not worn, I got it with the pouch bag. It's an amazing system and Actually I was scared by the people telling me that it was going to eat batteries like crazy but the thing actually lasts more than I thought, the only thing in which I disagree with you is the sound, it may be mono but at least in mine its loud as hell!

  • When you were playing Rampage it sounded like there were 2 speakers inside the single speaker grill. It's stupid putting 2 speakers in the same grill as it's stereo but the 2 speakers are not seperated enough to get a wide spectrum of sound.

  • Never got the chance to own one because it was SO freakin expensive back then so I got a gameboy instead. I remember the commercial of a kid playing the lynx in the school washroom lol.

Excellent review, can't wait to see another.

  • Great review. Those sixteen minutes went by really quick. I remember I had the chance to play Rygar on a Lynx at my local Home Express when I was a kid.

  • hey Gamester81 can you give me one of your Atari Lynx?!? LOL im just kidding awesome review!!!

  • People complain about not being able to see the screen on this system with the backlight off, but they missunderstand the function of the backlight off button. The idea was to switch the backlight off when you pause the game to save power, it was never intended to be used with the backlight off :o) Get duracell ultra batteries and it lasts a very long time, Interesting how rampage is dated 86 when it's before it was released!! shows the long history of the lynx development :o)

  • I never rated the lynx before i got an atari lynx 2 a few months ago, I love it now and it never gets any rest from people playing it at work, they say it's so addictive!! Do you have problems getting the batteries out of the atari lynx 2? I find it a right pain!!

The thing is that it lasted 6-7 hours on the batteries back then, run it on modern batteries and it runs for a lot longer :o)

  • What do you mean it's not for pockets? You just gotta be a pro like me :P

Lynx is a cool system. I've had to repair mine before, and despite it's size, weight, and how much is inside it, it's actually still quiet roomy inside the mk2. I could have seen them making a mk3 at some point had it held on.

Lemmings is a must have, and the only worth while handheld version, unless maybe you got a Nomad and a genesis version or something.

Some faves of mine are Chips Challenge, and Steel talons.

  • Those were the two boxed games you got with me at Bookmans!

I remember seeing the Lynx on display at Toys R Us and Blue Lightning was the demo game.

  • I just sold a lynx game that wad sealed on eBay.

  • Hey in my opinion 6 hours of playtime is pretty great for its time.

  • Atareks 5201

  • Fun review man. I love my Lynx. The capabilities and the library really surprised me.

  • Are those Bookman's stickers on the Lynx boxes? I love those stores.

  • Gamester81 the big friendy Giant

  • Great video, keep up the great work :)

One problem, now that your a partner, is that showing game footage is something Youtube is very touchy on, so you may want to look out for that. Just giving you a heads up, you probably already know ;)

  • That left handed switch thing has to be the most useless feature ever. I'm about as left handed as one can be, and I never had any problems what so ever controlling the d-pad with my left hand. If anything, most often you need more precision with the d-pad than you do with the other buttons.

  • YAY! A new video! Oh, and congrats on the partnership!! :-D

  • lynx isnt portable !!

  • Nice. I've seen those around and have just never picked one up. One of these days....

  • Nice video. I was wondering what is your opinion of Checkered flag, blue lighting, and toki. I am planning on getting two more games for my system and these are the ones I am looking at. Thank you for your time.

  • Nice video. I was wondering where on the stoneagegamer site do they mention the console giveaway that you mentioned in the review. I also have a Lynx and love it, I have 12 games for it so far. Thank you for your time.

  • always wanted a lynx, looks interesting. Nice review as always. Great Job!

  • hey gamester you ever review one of those 1 handed ps1 controllers? i think they were pretty rare, not sure though. very cool lynx stuff... lucky!

  • i never owned a lynx, i was never really a fan of hand helds, but i like the look of rampage

  • Cool stuff man! I love the Lynx, it has some amazing games on there for sure!

  • Excellent review brother, I picked up my first Lynx II a couple of weeks ago and couldn't be happier with it :)

  • partner , fantastic brother super cool my man

  • what system are those games you got in that package for?

  • Wow, LArry sure can take alot of bullets on the forehead

  • I have Ninja Gaiden on my Lynx and really like it. I've had a few Lynx systems over the years because they keep breaking on me, I once had S T U N Runner, I want another copy of it because I fucking love that game. I also have PIT Fighter and I really don't like it much at all.

  • I have the Lynx II and I really like it, one problem with the early (flat) game cards is that at least on my Lynx II and with my copy of Electrocop, the card goes in both ways, unlike the later cards with the curved top, they only go in one way. Has anyone else had that problem. One other problem with the Lunx is that they're not made very well, they break very easily, expecilly the AC Adaptor socets on the Lynx II.

  • I'm inclined to make a video of my Lynx collection as well. Very nice review man!

  • Why wouldn't someone want a free portable console? Silly Chapapa96.

  • The second model is so much better. lqtm

    ~fin~

  • great review

  • I only ever played California Games but it was really good, on a Lynx model 2

  • The Lynx had a great screen for its time, but alas the games weren't that great, and the system was huge, and awkward to handle. Even the smaller version 2 that came out a little later was still awkward with the way the buttons were spaced.

  • HOLY!

and i thought the SEGA gamegear was big 0_o

  • cool review.

  • shoulda cut the the volume on the lynx. I can't hear you talk over it.

  • I would love to own one of these. It would be awesome. PS awesome review!

  • Great review. In the early 90's I bought a Lynx version 2 for $60us and only owned three games California Games, Pinball and Toki Going Ape Spit and were pretty fun. Since I couldn't find a place to buy more games I traded it for an SNES at a local game store.

  • TMNT FOR LIFE!!!

  • I miss my old Lynx. It had an awesome version of Klax for it. So Jason that's where my Ngage games went. Heh heh, just kidding.

  • Awesome review

  • You're one of the only people I'd watch a 16 minute video from and actually want it to keep going.

  • Nice. Much uglier than I remembered though...

  • Rampage was great! Love being able to eat people and tear up buildings (Larry looked like he was humping the building though LOL)...another great game for Lynx is Rampart...awesome strategy game. Definitely recommend getting Rampart as well

  • Great video....The model 2 WAS my handheld back in the day.....had a gameboy model one but once I had color there was no going back....one of my fav systems and mos def underrated.....thanks!!!

  • Great review! Its kind of cool how the lynx could accommodate left handed players. Also, congrats on the partnership.

  • The Lynx was ridiculously ahead of its time.

Sadly, the timeless adage of "games make the system" contributed to its third-party-lacking software library.

  • I'am glad to see you are a partner, well deserved.

  • I used to have a model 1. Thought it was pretty cool. Awesome video man.

  • My brother had a lynx growing up. I found Stun Runner to be my favorite game. Rygar was pretty good too.

  • The systems always seemed to be rather neat but cost to much when i was younger, and i already had a gameboy at the time. great review as always

  • I picked up all the tmnt movies like that at wal-mart

  • COngrats on the partnership :D

Rember my comment a while ago saying you should become a partner? Just saying, that helped ;).

  • lol Boise getting wrecked by Larry the Rat.

  • Jaguar...? Panther...? (I know they exist. I have a Jag.) Anyone notice that Mac OS X 10.2 and 10.3 are named Jaguar and Panther in that order? XD

  • Glorius machine. I Had a model 1 back when they first came out. Effectively a Commodore Amiga in a box.

Never had a Model 2, but I have more Nostalgia for the model 1.

    Great over-view as always Gamester!!!

  • dammit i lost!

  • As a lefty, I've never been interested in left-handed controllers.

  • @Koolkitties Agreed. You get used to the controls. It would feel weird having them switched... even though I'm comfortable using the arrow keys on a keyboard.

  • pac land sounds like the lynx version of mario land

  • @Osiris592 actually if I'm not mistaken it came out before Super Mario BRos. for NES in its original release.

  • @Koolkitties oh yeah for the arcade... my bad.

  • awesome thanks for the shoutout. You deserve all the subs you have im glad to have helped you and that you like it. If you ever need anything else just let me know.

    great vid too!

  • @CandyTutorials No problem. I hope it drives people to check out your channel. =)

  • I've always wanted to have one of these just to pull it out on a bus or in a waiting room somewhere. Having an eight-person Lynx session would be awesome lol.

  • I still have my original Lynx and 15 games from when I was young. Works great.

  • Just got my Lynx today! It may not work though, as it's in very bad shape. :-( Batteries might be a factor, too. (Hopefully, when the AC adapter for that system shows up, it'll work.)

  • double dragon on the lynx is awesome. the best arcade port to portable ever. check out some gameplay footage here on youtube

  • thanks for this video I was quite curious about this handheld it also seems to have some pretty intense volume capabilities.

  • Great review!

  • do have a sharp nintendo television

  • The Lynx also had a very unique port of Gauntlet that had a ton of oddball characters in it as well as 3rd person view. It was a very strange game.

  • Cool review now that your a partner you can do more awesome indepth reviews I always thought your old reviews were cool but short and rushed.

PS congrats again on YT partnership your really moving up on youtube, people are finally starting to recanize how awesome you are.

  • @TheMetroidMurderer Hey thanks for your continued support. I truly appreciate it.

  • @Gamester81 your welcome you truly deserve it.

  • great review! I wish i still had my lynx.

  • Great review of a great system John!! :)

    I love the Lynx!

  • I dont need the Lynx cause of no games i like for the system.

  • there the 25th yr anniversary dvds i would have given u the 3rd dvd but i couldnt thanks for doing the vid dude hope u enjoy the games

  • @JasonRelaxation Cool bro. Thanks again.

  • Thanks for the new review dude, awesome as always

I was such a moron as a kid, I had the chance to buy this and instead I went for a stupid Tetris handheld because it had like 999 built in games and the lynx did not ~_~

  • congrtz dude on youtube partner and awesome review
