RINGEDGE is about to be discontinued in favor of a more powerful high end cutting board called "RINGWAVE" and its console counterpart "Futura". Any console rumor about RINGEDGE is now irrelavant. It has now joined the likes of Model 3,Chihiro,Europa R as a short lived mid range board.
It's SEGA's latest Arcade console, not a home console.
SEGA still produce their own hardware, they always have after the Dreamcast/Naomi, they produced the Naomi 2 arcade console, Naomi 3 arcade console, the Chihiro Arcade console, the Lindbergh Arcade console, the Ringwide Arcade console and now their very latest is the SEGA RingEdge console.
One thing that SEGA usually do is base their home consoles on their latest Arcade console. Hence why you get Arcade perfect productions on SEGA systems.
For the love of .......there is no new games console made by sega (at least for now there was a patent filed for a system similar to OnLive but i doubt we will see it soon its taken the OnLive team ages to get setup, not to mention it could be just them playing with the idea doesnt necessarily mean it will be released).
i was super curious when i heard about this, i knew that it couldnt be what people said it would be, this doesnt looks very at home to me, i love sega but this isnt the hardware that im looking for, dreamcast 2 man, thats what this world needs
@RareAspie i was super curious when i heard about this, i knew that it couldnt be what people said it would be, this doesnt looks very at home to me, i love sega but this isnt the hardware that im looking for, dreamcast 2 man, thats what this world needs
I think right now or some time 2011 would be a good time to release a console, they are restructuring to save money and also, Sony is not planning on releasing anything until 2015, Microsoft is overly optimistic that natal will breath a few more years of life into the 360 and Nintendo is not planning on anything and also with the 360 just think, most of its big game franchises are coming to a end. Gears of war 3,Fable 3, Mass effect 3, Halo reach are all coming out by the beginning of next year
@ATARI800XLfan I say that if Sega were to release another console, that they should wait and see what Sony and Microsoft have in plan for their next consoles and release their console with Sony's console and Microsoft's console this way they can compete with their technological advancements.
what are they planning? home console could be possible if Microsoft are looking to cash in off the Japanese market....big release title would have to be named...Shenmue 3 anyone?
@MrDan8869 As far as I know currently...slim to none.
But If I were to guess who would more than likely want to pick it up it would be Microsoft.
But SEGA's target audience, assuming from the point of their internal developers would want it on the PS3.(note: this is only a guess based on the games released currently.)

um maybe you should do some research. Sega has even announced a couple years back that they are fine with being 3rd party developers and are very successful. Plus they have even said they have no plans for the "really competitive" as they said console war.
@meplayvgalot Yeah, back then. But something has changed at Sega. Anyway, why would Sonic 4 be released in the arcade? I want someone to answer that. There are question marks on the Sonic 4 site and all systems are ALREADY listed. WHY would a downloadable game be in a freakin arcade? That doesn't make any sense business wise. And all of sega's consoles are based of their arcade chips. They are planning something. The patents include home consoles.
SEGA is not even finished with RingEdge's hardware. The arcade line has not yet been trademarked for usage and distribution yet because: 1. Sega has been building a console off it's hardware since 2008. 2. They are considering giving it's GPU an upgrade. 3. Thier current plans are to introduce the RingWide as a network game streaming device simluar to On-live this summer First.
it looks more like a CPU rather than a console. I'm basing this off the fact that there are DVI ports on the back. and 3 ports to insert a mouse, speakers, and something else...

This is where SEGA could muscle in on. There is big cult following and demand for a new sega console. Shh the naysayers the dreamcast was a hit. Long fuck the ps2 long live the dreamcast, it had better games hands down except devil may cry and kingdom hearts on ps2 thats all the ps2 had in my eyes in good quality
People are honestly dreaming if they still think that Sega will be bold enough to re-enter the console market. It's way too intense and competitive these days between 3 current competitors, particularly in terms of marketing. I honestly don't think Sega has the financial muscle to compete with the likes of Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo anymore.
I agree but if you look at the ps3's sales if this new sega cosole (maby) can have a good lauc with a great line up of games and have it in HD it could just heart sony right there that's 1 down. Not sure how it would batle microsoft though I heard it coming with 2 controllers one like a wii's and one normal so it could kill the wi.
@Forzaabruzzo you are right forzaabruzzo. It's already tense enough how can Sega pull something out of their ass this time? Dreamcast was a major failure. Seeing Sonic on the Nintendo is a huge sign how badly Sega as a company is doing.
@SonicProwler15 right... yet there are only a couple of views on every video out there that talks about a new sega console coming out next gen. I still don't see where the 20 million come from.
@SonicProwler15 Yep, it's tough competition out there. I don't think Sega has enough money or power and even will to try and fight the Giants like Sony, Microsoft, and the console who has kicked their ass for the past generations Nintendo.
You seem to think That I'm a console Advocate that wants nintendo dead....I don't care what Nintendo does.....
While I WOULD like a new console...releasing it NOW is suicide.....
Has nintendo gained the Rights to Sonic? NO
SAMMY owns SEGA(all of it)...NOT nintendo.....
Who won? Nintendo...no argument
Did you check Atari's status before reading my comment? If you did you realized that a "savior" Console put them in pretty much eternal debt...They are not dying....but not living...
Its an arcade board, meaning its the next generation arcade system from sega, although I didnt think there was much money in arcades anymore. It seems too unlikely that sega is prepping a new console, as they are still releasing lots of 3rd party games. But with needlemouse getting teasers and no platform confirmation, the DC also shared Sega arcade tech, and Shenmue 3 being kept back all this time its slightly possible. And if so I wish them the best of luck.
RingEdge is obviously an arcade board... probably for standard sized and large cabinets.
The RingWide could possibly also be for arcades, say, smaller cabinets or table-top machines.
I'm not going to delude myself after all these years that they're making a new home console. With the commercial powerhouses already out there and the market saturation, a new Sega console would belly up faster than the Nokia N-Gage.
I would dearly love to believe such fantasies but I'm more cynical these days.
You can PM me and check out the petition on my account. I've got plenty of curcimstancial evidence of a new SEGA console from Ringedge hardware. Plus, SEGASammy is preparing to test market an On-live like device based on Ringwide hardware pretty soon.
I know about the Naomi hardware becoming the Dreamcast, I'd much rather prefer to be skeptical however
I've found that when it comes to Sega, optimism will just crush all of your expectations in the end. I love Sega to death, but they are just so fucking stupid sometimes.
I do own all of their consoles (even a Master System) and love them all (even the Saturn), but a lot of mistakes were made over all those years and I think playing it safe as a software dev will pay off much more in the end.
SEGASammy is first going to expirment with an On-Live like hybrid using RingWide's hardware. It will be unveiled soon and will begin test marketing this spring.
Also I was thinking this is going to be HD right and they are hyping that. But are they doing THE SAME THING FOR PROJECT NEEDLEMOUSE!!!!! They are both hyping their HD and both (supposedly) come out in 2010! OMFG!
It's 2007. SEGASammy choose Allendale 2160 Duo Core 2 because they were more focused on a more efficant high preformance GPU chip then an advance CPU processor.
Which is why SEGASammy may change the 8800M GTS for a mid range GeForce 260M GTX. The hardware was originally designed to compete against the Wii's successor, if Sony builds a PS4, the hardware may be designed for that purpose.
For those of you that cant read japaneese, i just want to inform you that this is a PC. at 0.52 you can clearly see that it states the cpu as a Intel Celeron.
well, no thats a fail as well. The term PC is a standard, so consoles are not PC's.
In fact, consoles are actually consoles. Who on earth would have thought that the case? I mean, its not like they get marketed as consoles at all, is it?
Consoles are consoles and PC's are PC's. The two are not readily interchangable.
If you are going to be lame and support a pointless comment then you might was well say TV's, mobile phones, fridges, washing machines and MP3 players are also PC, in the architectural sense.
In fact it's quite the opposite. The Mega-Tech, Mega-Play, and C-2 arcade boards were all based off genesis hardware(which were all released AFTER the genesis).
There is a console counterpart as well. All of SEGA's arcade boards that have been licensed for use outside of Japan have been converted into consoles.
---Im a SEGA fan....I do not know much about these....but as far as I know, the RingEdge will be a home console while the RingWide will be a arcade based machine. If this is true (not saying it is....please God let it be) then I know that they will be launched in the next year.
The RING EDGE is trademarked as a touch screen arcade board (Japan) and console in the U.S. and europe (the Japanese name may be RING SMASH. The Ringwide board will go on sale in Japan this winter(SEGASammy is in the early stages of building a handheld from it's hardware.) The Ring Edge console will launch in Q3 2010.
is theyre Home system be like the XBox 360 and ps3? witht Hard Driver and all those tings? is theyre system gona be more powerfull then the XBox360 and ps3? man from what ive seen i tink yes, but can you tell me that? i hope they really release the console, it will be a huge sucsess or shure and it will Finaly Get The Playstation out of the Market! But man can you tell me those questions? Has a Sega Fan i would really like to know more about the new system!
It will use a simluar graphics engine to PS3, use HD-DVD ROM, and will use USB flash drives. You can read all about it on the petition located on my profile.
Apparently, SEGASammy will also test market a streaming device simluar to On-Live next spring that will use RingWide hardware.
Ojalá SEGA regrese pronto al mundo del Hardware. Me encantaban sus consolas y su buen hacer en juegos. Espero que muy pronto podamos disfrutar de las maravillas que sólo SEGA es capaz de hacer.
That's right. Ringwide arcade games will be touch screen activated, that board will go on sale in Japan this winter. Ringedge will be the console variant and is being designed to compete against PS3 and Wii HD. It shall launch in Q3 2010.
Sega never dissapointed us, not even with the Saturn, it's all Sega Of America's fault. they say it wasn't a machine for everyone...wich I kinda agree, but for those hardcore Sega fans out there, the system was a blast...The truth is, the company are the only ones who care about graphics rather than gameplay. (hence very few 2D games from Japan were released in USA and Europe.)
Not true. If it wasn't for Sega of Japan we would have Sonic X-Treme. Then again if it wasn't for Sonic X-Treme's cancellation, we wouldn't have Sonic Aventure or Sonic Adventure 2 or Sonic Unleashed...... :-\
"We already have 3 consoles, we don't need a 4th one" that maybe true but i think the gaming market would never be too crowded to welcome SEGA back into the frey. lots of people are dying for new hardware from SEGA myself included. Atari on the other hand...
No. The Neptune was supossed to launch before Saturn in 1994. SOJ designed it for SOA. But SOA designed Mars/32X instead. After the 32X failed, SOA was forced to scrap Neptune.
SonicProwler's arugument has no merit or evidence. SEGASammy is building a new system out of Ringedge. Just as another NEW patent popped up more will continue throughout this summer.
So is it actually a sega console? Sega computer? Sega arcade machine? I dont get it and want to know... bad. Even though its not, id kill for a DC2. Sonic Adventure 3 done like the other 2 -drools-.

You and I agree SEGA will not bring out a console unless they really want to put death on their company.
They are not dying but not living = They are zombies? haha joking.
Josh350 2 years ago
Josh350,
Let me explain to you about 3rd parties....
3rd party developers are Free to develop on ANY platforms of their choice....
Sonic games have a tendancy to sell better on a Nintendo system(2 million of the 4.5 million copies of SU have sold on Wii alone)..
I can guarantee you that if Nintendo owned sonic that they would keep him exclusive....
SEGA owns the Sonic IP so therefore Sonic can be on 360 and PS3....
Check SEGA's list of owned Ip's and you will see they still own sonic....

It's 2007. SEGASammy choose Allendale 2160 Duo Core 2 because they were more focused on a more efficant high preformance GPU chip then an advance CPU processor.
Tornado1994 2 years ago
Yea, but the GPU is pretty old too, the old 8800GTS, it's from 2007... Even a today-midrange card like the 9600GT is faster.
dickkwikkwek 2 years ago
Which is why SEGASammy may change the 8800M GTS for a mid range GeForce 260M GTX. The hardware was originally designed to compete against the Wii's successor, if Sony builds a PS4, the hardware may be designed for that purpose.

For those of you that cant read japaneese, i just want to inform you that this is a PC. at 0.52 you can clearly see that it states the cpu as a Intel Celeron.
judgen 2 years ago
So does that make the original Xbox a PC as well? It used Intel CPU's as well.
Or could it be that your just a numpty?
kbourouba 2 years ago
The XBOX in general is basically another PC as are all consoles.
This is the case for all the parts that power the machine.
So yes Xbox=Comp+windows
SonicProwler15 2 years ago
well, no thats a fail as well. The term PC is a standard, so consoles are not PC's.
In fact, consoles are actually consoles. Who on earth would have thought that the case? I mean, its not like they get marketed as consoles at all, is it?
kbourouba 2 years ago
I am speaking in the architectural sense.
The Architecture of a console is similar to that of a PC.
It is NOT a PC...But It is Built like one.
Judgen is speaking in a literal sense...
SonicProwler15 2 years ago
Well, no. Thats a fail as well.
Consoles are consoles and PC's are PC's. The two are not readily interchangable.
If you are going to be lame and support a pointless comment then you might was well say TV's, mobile phones, fridges, washing machines and MP3 players are also PC, in the architectural sense.
/Fail
kbourouba 2 years ago
Correct. The Chihiro board's hardware comes from a 1999 PC using the Pentium III. It is based off the Xbox.
Tornado1994 2 years ago
that's an arcade board.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
NOOO.
SEGA Arcade boards were custom built.
And their consoles were then built from similar tech to ease porting.
Some of the lesser known boards however did become consoles.
The Higher end more popular boards were all custom.
SEGA does NOT have finacial stability. and with the Yen going up in value, the Japanese economy is now starting to suffer.
SonicProwler15 2 years ago
I said that the consoles started out from arcade boards. I did not say they were the same as arcade boards of simply home ports of arcade systems.
Yasmar89 2 years ago 2
That is still a false statement.
Because the Genesis wasn't based off any Board.
In fact it's quite the opposite. The Mega-Tech, Mega-Play, and C-2 arcade boards were all based off genesis hardware(which were all released AFTER the genesis).
And the ST-V Titan didn't become the saturn....
The Saturn became the ST-V Titan.
SonicProwler15 2 years ago
No it was based off an arcade board. System 16 B.
Tornado1994 2 years ago 3
This comment has received too many negative votes show
congrats that and your streaming device may be the only truth you deliver over the next year.
However his statement is STILL false
Saturn became the ST-V
Model 2 did NOT become the saturn,
The designs are completely different.
The only thing the Saturn got from the Model 2 were it's ports.
SonicProwler15 2 years ago
There is a console counterpart as well. All of SEGA's arcade boards that have been licensed for use outside of Japan have been converted into consoles.

mexican379 2 years ago 4
The RING EDGE is trademarked as a touch screen arcade board (Japan) and console in the U.S. and europe (the Japanese name may be RING SMASH. The Ringwide board will go on sale in Japan this winter(SEGASammy is in the early stages of building a handheld from it's hardware.) The Ring Edge console will launch in Q3 2010.

It will use a simluar graphics engine to PS3, use HD-DVD ROM, and will use USB flash drives. You can read all about it on the petition located on my profile.
Apparently, SEGASammy will also test market a streaming device simluar to On-Live next spring that will use RingWide hardware.

On top of that, "Mr."Bernie Stolar said: no 2D games or RPGs
Me: "Slaps him" May I ask why?
Why the living fuck were all of the
Saturn RPGs released outside of Japan?
He said that American audiences think RPGs are for faggots, and 2D games are soo 1993..."sigh" alas...Sega failed with the Saturn in USA...
2010: "RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE SEGA"
the console that will bring Sega back to buisness is coming, AND SEGA WILL NOT DISSAPOINT THE FANS!!
PKUltimaga 2 years ago 3
Sega never dissapointed us, not even with the Saturn, it's all Sega Of America's fault. they say it wasn't a machine for everyone...wich I kinda agree, but for those hardcore Sega fans out there, the system was a blast...The truth is, the company are the only ones who care about graphics rather than gameplay. (hence very few 2D games from Japan were released in USA and Europe.)
PKUltimaga 2 years ago

Scurry254624 2 years ago 4
Just send me a PM if you would like the information I've uncovered.
Tornado1994 2 years ago
since it'll be crowded, sega will hav to wait till the next gen of consoles

why does everyone think that another sega console would be called dreamcast 2 in the past sega never made "sequel" consoles
TheCandygod 2 years ago 6
yes they did
freerund 2 years ago
what i meant was they never released a totaly new console with numerals they would always have a different name
although they did release new models of their consoles with numbers such as the megadrive model 2 and 3 but they were mainly just asthetical changes

they were going to after sega saturn its called the sega neptune but got cancelled
VladimirSpike29879 2 years ago
No. The Neptune was supossed to launch before Saturn in 1994. SOJ designed it for SOA. But SOA designed Mars/32X instead. After the 32X failed, SOA was forced to scrap Neptune.
Tornado1994 2 years ago 2
SonicProwler's arugument has no merit or evidence. SEGASammy is building a new system out of Ringedge. Just as another NEW patent popped up more will continue throughout this summer.
