I have my eye on a couple on amazon that are under that, but not sure if anyone knows much about them. I want something that's 1080p, 120hz, fast refresh, at least 42" with a lot of hookups, preferably a name brand.

Phil, I know you've been told this before, but why not use a capture card? It is possible to do live commentaries with a capture card, and it will be probably the best quality in terms of video game footage you can put out. Just a thought.

quality of hardware is not an issue. the companies that make the processors, video cards, hard drives, etc are the same.

for video editing a lot of ram is needed as well as a large hdd for storage.

i can build a sandy bridge machine for $1000 and it will be much faster than that last gen dual core i3.
