I wish I knew how they created these superb musical gems out of thin air. Genius is a much over used term, especially in pop music, but these lads are close enough. The rest of us mere mortals must have shared whatever cultural influences & psychic inspiration drove their imaginations, because their works instantly find a familiar home in our souls. Pure magic. I love it.
Awesome tune, and great solo from my man Dave Gregory. I just read that he recorded the solo on Toddzilla's guitar that was inherited to him from Eric Clapton. It was a Gibson SG too.
Replaying this sweet tune. Their words seem to be sychronistic in Nature. I think why they ae here on the PC and those that are to hear triggers to become more aware of truth hidden in plain sight shall be led here by those that were set up to do so at this Grand Finale' journey. Yep. These Beings reach right to your souls core with messages from eons ago. Keep up your mission XTC I LOVE YOU ALL and Your muscial wonders. ;-)))) <3 <3 <3
@perromanchado Not only is this one of Dave's best solos (personally my favorite is "No Language in Our Lungs"), this is one of the most exquisitely perfect guitar solos of all time. I'm thinking Steely Dan (pre-Aja) may have been trying for something like this but never got there.
cracking tune gtr solo sounds like todd rundgren scales. really makes me happy hearing it, has anyone checked out band KRY they have such great song "miles away" posted here i know Pat from band is huge XTC fan
No mistaking the sound of Todd Rundgren on this song- Andy initially didn't like Todd's production of the album, but thru the years he finally mellowed & realized this was truly a masterpiece album!!
The entire album is like a story being played out....on the first run of Skylarking. As iconic as "Dear God" is, it was a break in the storytelling of the album.
@mdolphin I'm really hoping everyone out there enjoying this brilliant music already owns this album or is on the way to the store to buy it. Because it would be so incredibly wrong to not send these boys a couple of quid for the trouble of writing the best pop music since the Beatles.
So sorry you don't feel super! But I saved myself. That's a feat, mate.

Captain Beefheart is gone. Andy Partridge must surely now be the world's greatest living eccentric musical genius.

Yes, that is DG, playing the Clapton Cream-era psychedelic Gibson SG that was in Rundgren's studio. One of my favorite DG solos.
