Phelps is clearly the superior swimmer, Cavic is fast, but you have to be able to finish or your race is worthless. Phelps really pushes that last 50 and that's why he wins this event.
The suits did give an upper hand, but the times can be broken. Look at Lochte's 200IM. Some swimmers relied to much on them, and I beleive Cavic was one of them. He didn't even make top 16 at Shanghai this year. . . you don't just go from being in the top 3 to not even the top 16 just like that.
Dude,Cavic didn't made in top 16 in Shanghai because he had a back surgery so he wasn't able to get ready for the world's,but i think hes gonna be in top shape for London 2012,and it will be awsome race to watch.Cheers

yeah suits make a huge difference. if they were going to get rid of the suits they should have done it sooner. i tied for 1st at southern zone meet in 08 in 100m back when i was 14 i went 100.37. next year only dropped .2 from that time. my time from before i wore the suit was 1:02.56. yeah suits make huge difference

To say X number of records have been broken with the suit is not statistical proof of the suit's worth, if there are no blind tests then the results dont count. you must prove that the same athletes wouldnt win the races or break records UNLESS they wear the suits. and of course this is false. I've seen many of them break records on simple jammers, and others lose races with the fancy suits.
The suits are not making the results. Phelps lost the 200 freestyle with his LZR. Cavic lost the 200 fly with his arena. And the Chinese guy also lost the 400 free with LZR. so a great deal of losers with allegued undefeatable suits. The point is that while you may have a guy that wins with a fancy suit, you also have a guy that loses with the other fancy suit. It's a false dichotomy, and a self refuting idiocy.

You CANNOT tell me that within mere months, he was able to shave off 4 whole seconds on sheer training. if u follow swimming even in the very least, you would know that that is impossible without extra help, and again, its been proven........biedermann's extra help was an ARENA X GLIDE!

@moosebackstroker it's been a while that after examining biedermann's times with and without the suit, I realized he is way faster with it, and accepted to correct my position. but on my behalf, i knew SC is faster, that's obvious, but is not that much faster, it's around 3-4 secs (so 1:45 in qualy is not slow). nevertheless, i already accepted the guy is waaay slower without the X-glide. for example in 200m: beijing 1:46.00 wo, rome 1:42.00 w, berlin 1:45.84 wo, Budapest 1:46.06 wo.

I just dont get it. if biedermann made such fantastic improvements with his arena suit, and Cavic is wearing it here, and since Cavic is by no means a middle class flyer, why on earth didnt he kicked Phelps' ass to the moon. I mean, he almost won in beijing, and also here. I guess Michael builds a better rythm throught the race.

To say X number of records have been broken with the suit is not statistical proof of the suit's worth, if there are no blind tests then the results dont count. you must prove that the same athletes wouldnt win the races or break records UNLESS they wear the suits. and of course this is false. I've seen many of them break records on simple jammers, and others lose races with the fancy suits.

The suits are not making the results. Phelps lost the 200 freestyle with his LZR. Cavic lost the 200 fly with his arena. And the Chinese guy also lost the 400 free with LZR. so a great deal of losers with allegued undefeatable suits. The point is that while you may have a guy that wins with a fancy suit, you also have a guy that loses with the other fancy suit. It's a false dichotomy, and a self refuting idiocy.

There have been hundreds of races won/lost by .01 and the touch pad system has always gotten it right and it even shows in the film and pictures that phelps touched first... An arena x glide is the faster suit compared to the lzr (fact, look it up) phelps didnt win this one because of his suit, he won this race because hes an athlete because even though his suit wasnt as fast as cavic's, he still was able to pull it out.

@sirdelrio as for the 200 free, if u look at biedermann's time he put out in beijing ( 1:46.00 without the arena x glide) and compare it to his time he put in rome (1:42.00 with the arena x glide). You CANNOT tell me that within mere months, he was able to shave off 4 whole seconds on sheer training. if u follow swimming even in the very least, you would know that that is impossible without extra help, and again, its been proven........biedermann's extra help was an ARENA X GLIDE!

@moosebackstroker it's been a while that after examining biedermann's times with and without the suit, I realized he is way faster with it, and accepted to correct my position. but on my behalf, i knew SC is faster, that's obvious, but is not that much faster, it's around 3-4 secs (so 1:45 in qualy is not slow). nevertheless, i already accepted the guy is waaay slower without the X-glide. for example in 200m: beijing 1:46.00 wo, rome 1:42.00 w, berlin 1:45.84 wo, Budapest 1:46.06 wo.

Phelps is amazing - thats for sure. But he's also a dick, all that angry hootin and hollering after the race before congratulating Michael Cavic (yeah, I said Michael Cavic cuz he was born and raised in Orange County CA and lived in the states his whole life - that's what he always went by until the Olympics). You can just tell Phelps has some growing up to do - not a boss, not right with himself.
