secondly you can clearly see by the outline of the fish that its been photoshoped, i have been doing photoshop for the last 10 years now so i should know,and lastly judging by the pictures the are about 2.5-4kg in weight which is imposible for a common European perch,the world record is about 2.3 kg.

@leejames1982 Yes they are, but that's a slang name Aussies give them, their correct name is ENGLISH PERCH...and that's where we Aussies got them from. British fishermen brought them over here a Hundred years ago, along with Roach and Tench

Would I be correct in thinking those are European perch (Perca fluviatilis)? Are they closely related to the yellow perch (Perca flavescens) we have in the US? It appears that they are quite a bit larger, on average.

@wboquist They look so much like a yellow perch as far as the coloration, but they look as if they could be more of a bass as crazy as that may sound. Just my opinion, but in many of the pics if you focus on the head rather than the body they look like a largemouth or striped bass. Different than our perch, yet the coloration is identical minus the more red on the tail.

@wboquist if you like perch and ever want to come to uk to catch them you wont get a better river for them then the great ouse in buckinghamshire, I personally have had them to 4lb 10oz which is my best I have however seen a bigger 1 then that just wouldnt take my bait.

I'm going spinning for Perch tomorrow...it's going to be frosty tonight so it could be a good day for perch.

Since September I've had a 4lb and a 5lb.

The 4lb I caught while I was reeling in a Gudgeon,, I swa the perch chase it so I let it catch it.

The 5lb, I saw a Perch chasing fish so I put a spinner on and caught it 1st cast.

A great way to catch em.

Iv caught most of my big perch on minnows but i have caught a 2lb'er on a small fish i was reeling in but i dont know what it was. i have also used minnow hooked a perch and a pike took it and i landed it without it being hooked the thing just didnt want to let that perch go the perch servived aswell but sadly the minnow didnt lol

No not Bass, they are European Perch, a distant relative of your Yellow Perch. We have them in Australia, and in ideal waters they grow to 5 or 6 pounds.

Those are real, they are not the same as the north american Yellow perch although they look the same they are a diffirent sub species that grow alot larger than our perch.They are scattered all over europe.
