It was tribes like the cruithne and the ulaidh who first founded Ireland..and it seems likely they stepped across from Scotland. The gaels of todays Ireland were the last in and it is these who may have basque connections however they are not the original peoples of either Ireland or Scotland. These first people were of celt and norse origin. Ptolemys goegraphia names them cruithne and St Patrick said they were the Pretani tribe and being a Welshman he would have recognised them.
The west coast of Europe was 'one' kingdom which traded with the Mediterranean states that much is pretty well established, although a kingdom guided by the Druids consisting of many tribes and influx of peoples.. seems to me a plausible truth.. what say ye?
If you really want to go back further, then the celts decent is from africa, the tribes moved to the middle east and southern europe, spain, france, afgan mountains. spanish were gaelic france was celtica. true celts have dark hair dark eyes from there ansestors. england ireland wales and scotland have all been attcked by various forces. britia, england also has alot of celtic blood, but unfotunalty the scots irish and northern tribes were too busy fighting to help boudica protect her lands.
@gmsm520 Not strictly true, Pockets dug in Cornwall, in Scotland and parts of Wales which were never taken over by the Romans. Many others simly assimilated into Roman Britain. A great deal did flee and settle in Armorica (Brittany) but not all were driven out. And many decendents still live in Britain. Which is why Celtic languages survive to this day.
@gmsm520 Well you said Britain which includes Wales and Scotland so that was a little confusing. And Cornwall is a region of England despite being known as a Celtic nation it doesn't have it's own government and borders like Wales and Scotland or Ireland do.
The South, South-East and the Midlands areas of England are more Anglo-Saxon than the rest of the country. Whilst the language and many A/S names travelled North, the people generally didn't. Much of Northern England is more Celtic and Viking than anything else, the latter applying particularly to Yorkshire and the North-East. Altogether, it is thought that a minority of English people are of A/S ancestry.
@gmsm520 no most british people are a mixture of of germanic, roman and celtic, i just different percentages across the island, the celts were never replaced.
you also have to remember the welsh, scottish and english been able to freely move around the island for hundreds of years.
@TranceExplosion .Not Romans. There has been little dna evidence of Romans (a bit round the Wall). They were here as rulers and administrators, they never brought in huge crowds of settlers, mainly soldiers. They left in the end, remember. Perhaps 2% of the genepool if that. The romano-British were mainly native 'celts' that became Romanised.
@renatokuchler Aboriginals are not just in Australia. An Aborginal is the original dwelers of a particular area. The Native American tribes are aboriginal to north and south America. The list is nearly endless.
@Nemeton213 Sorry - I wasn't referring to you using wiki, but I have known other people to liberally use it. New info is always welcomed to me - thanks again :)
@Nemeton213 COOL!! Thanks for the info! See, unlike most people (armchair-historians), I want to gain knowledge and am open to resources as well as the knowledge of others. I wouldn't totally rely on wiki, but I will definitely search this.
@Nemeton213 Wow - that's interesting. TGE Powell found that the tribes as a whole were called the Pretani, with the Picts being also known as the Preteni. He did however, also state that "Briton" and "Britannia" were Latin mispronunciations of Pretani and Preteni. Still, I will research your evidence. It is quite interesting, as I am a descendent of Scottish, Irish, and Welsh Celts.
also, people, the half of celtish/irish mytolegy comes from the wikings too, we raided and settled in scotland and ireland and england, they had also a part to put in the history about the celtish relegion, we are all a part of it , but its really few people who knows it and thinks about it,
@gunnerthedenmark Yes and you all had your heads cut aff and sent back to Norway and Denmark, the Vikings were bred out in the end, the Scots by and large are the Caledonian Picts of ancient Scotland, the haplotypes proves it.
"Celtic" is a made up modern term from the 1800's first used as a linguist to link everyone as the same when they're not.
I wouldn't get your information from Americans (Yanks), most of them don't know their arsehole from their elbow.
were to join 2geter as one celtic unit and take the war to mainland england england will FALL and celts will be gloryios and victoyios S.N.L.A Oglaigh Na hEireann and tom jones ahahahahah UP THE IRA
Celts how proud i am of my celtic brothers and sisters in wales and scottland SNP biggest poltical party in scottland ALBA england saxon scum the foe and sworen enemy will fall and be slayd and put 2 death by all celts and brothers in struggle and the shit will hit the fan then lol ahahaaha some celtic people in 2011 dont realise thr celtic backround but the fact is CELTS are greatr and stronger than the weak and inbread saxon foe and if ever people in eire wales and scotland
@eirezrevenge I agree, by the way, It's "Scotland" not "scottland".
Also "Celtic" is only the same in terms of language root, that doesn't make us the same people, it's a modern term that doesn't pre-date the 1800's when it was first used by a Linguist to group languages together that had a common root, but there is a common bond between the nations within the British isles compared to England which uses Germanic influence.
@segano1 sorry to tell but i havent got my info from yanks, i got it from a travel to scotland and ireland myself, ther history is linked to the eroupean, and we settled there ,sure some of us raided you and some of us died and gut the heads severed, but all in all some of us settled there amoung you, and the irish part of culture, whit the river avalon, has it parts to northern belives on that time, but we still had something to say to your culture, but agein so have you to ours,
@gunnerthedenmark and by the way most of us "yanks" arnt clueless, some of us do our research, some of us listen to our grandfathers who fled from the british to america, just as the native americans are still in some small way tied to this land we are still tied to the homeland, and btw i hate American bullshit. the celts and the natives have much in common, i truely wish they could rise up and take there land back.
@gmsm520 I don't see any connection with natives.I'm sorry but I'm a person of 'celtic' ancestry who lives in England, along with millions of others...in fact nearly 1/4 of modern English people have recent Irish ancestry (not to mention Scottish,Cornish and Welsh or the fact that western England has much the same dna as the celts) Most of us get along pretty damn well now, and really don't appreciate people stirring over things (like the Saxon invasion)that happened 1600 years ago!
@segano1 as far i know, more and more danes comes to the scottish / irish feelings, and is being celts, but i also understands why, i wanna say i fought 2 years in iraq, along eroupean forces, and the moste brave soldiers ive seen are australians and scots. always up front, .
The anglo saxons are celts too, They just went a different rout to get to The british Isles, instead of going west they went east, ended up in Germany, Started to migrate back towards the west, came in contact with the Celts and fought them, then realized that they were fighting their own people and stop, They united with celts are went to the British Isles with them. The welsh, Scots, Irish, and English are all Celts. They all share the same history, and myth's.
@midnighthood you are correct we are the same family they dont know the preflood links to our celtic culture BUT you are correct Thank you for backing me up, I'm am going a step further and saying this because it is true, Iberian means Hebrew, We re the lost tribes of Israel. Are forefathers knew this, how come we don't? What happened to our history?
Bro I'm Scottish, and I'm celtic, The Scottish, and Irish are cousins. The Scottish are Irish settlers in Scotland. look it up. How funny that you think that.
uhhh you guys do know that the lovely knotwork symbol you used is not celtic don't you?? it was actually brought into britain and used exclusively by anglo saxons...
i cannot beleive people don't even know the real artwork of thier ancestors. i hate to tell people this but you are lying to yourselves and essentially dishonoring our celtic tradition by naming something that invading germans brought into our country "celtice" and putting on every damn thing to do with them
@jin54363 Well, to be blunt, not really. Asatru focuses more on the Aesir. Asatru means "loyal to the Aesir gods". The Celts were more Nature based, so to the Scandinavians, the Celts would worship on the Vanir or Seidr level (Frejya taught Odin Seidr magick).
@WirocuPritanos Well, Keltoi was used before Caesar by the Greeks, and was applied, yes, to the Gauls at first. The Gauls, particularly the cis-alpine tribes, traded with the Greeks (wine especially :) ).
@WirocuPritanos Well, they used Greek script (as well as their own Ogham alphabet and later used the Runes as well), and the language of ancient Ireland had Greek connection. Not all Celts were Greek, that is true, but the ones in the Pretannic Isles were. The Gauls may have been a mix of both Greek and Iberian.
@WirocuPritanos Published in the early 80s, I believe. I agree, some of what is in their is wrong, but I have a modern historical encyclopedia to back-me-up.
@WirocuPritanos Don't forget the Hallstatt as well :). I know about the biased evidence. That's the problem with reading Roman resources (no offense). A lot of what they stated about the Celts was wrong, such as ritual "sacrifice". There is no such bull in my religion to support that, nor was there ever. If "st." Patrick didn't burn all those Irish texts (in Ogham and GREEK alphabet), then we might know a lot more fact.
@celticbattleaxe I have no doubt they DID occasionally practice ritual killing, like most cultures. The Irish legend of Cromm Cruach hints at it. In the last few years the bodies of several high status men have been found in Irish bogs who are thought to be 'sacred kings' sacrificed to the land. This tallies with English Lindow man and bodies in one time celtic areas of Europe. These people were headhunters and no 'fluffy bunnies'!
@sonofherne True, indeed - that's partially what scared the %$#& out of the Romans :).
The problem is that we still don't know for sure if they did practice ritual killing. The Roman documents are biased - they never told the exact truth about their enemies. Caesar wrote "the Gallic Wars" mainly to convince the Senate to allow him to continue his conquest of Gaul (and later, Albion). And courtesy of "st." Patrick burning many of the old documents, we can only speculate :(.
@WirocuPritanos Uh, the Irish called their homeland by a Greek word. The Celts have little record of being descents of Iberia. The Greeks are more likely. In ancient Greek, there were few similarities between that and Latin. Roman influence didn't come until the AD period, way after the Celts first became known.
@celticbattleaxe .The Irish people's own myths speak of Spain as an origin for their people. Newgrange is an Iberian style passage grave.Portugueses bronze age earrings have turned up in Ireland. That's to say nothing of the dna which is far closest to that of the Atlantic seaboard than to Greece. That said, there is evidence of some bronze age trade between Britain and Greece (esp Delos.)
@sonofherne Which makes sense, as the language of the Lusitani, is Q Celtic :).
Yeah, there was definitely trade between Albion and Greece. I don't about direct routes, but the Veneti (in modern-day Brittany) traded with other Gauls who traded with the Greeks. The Gauls who lived in the Alps especially traded with the Greeks - look at some of the artwork in the area, and you can see figures of Alpine chieftains drinking LOTS of wine, most likely Greek wine.
@sonofherne Have a look at the study done by Balaresque et al...where it shows the earliest lineage of man comes NOT from Iberia as some supposed but rather from the Balkans and Middle East.
@WirocuPritanos ... and I hope my words have not been harmful to you. You, too, have your heart in the right place. I want to research what you said, though. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. I always learn by research. Heck, no one is perfect! I wish you a blessed life! Blessed be!! )0( Drop by my channel anytime!
CYMRU!!!!!
ALBA!!!!!
KERNOW!!!!
I still think you are a Celt - anyway, it doesn't matter. We have the same blood, and heck!! We might be cousins (VERY distant, but nonetheless :) ).
@WirocuPritanos Of course this is NOT an enmity of ANY kind!!! I'd rather debate with you any day of the week compared to some of the conversations I have been in (with trolls). History and Psychology are my majors. I respect your views, thought they are different, but what I say comes from my books. My room is full of historical encyclopedias, dictionaries, you name it. If I told you who wrote the books and what the titles are, it would take a lot of typing :). I thankyou for debating with me,
@WirocuPritanos ...that also has Greek origin. This was probably the Irish name for Scotland, from the Scotti invasion, which eventually led to the uniting of Pictish and Scottish royal houses.
@WirocuPritanos I never said that the Gauls were Iberian. I said that they may have connections to Iberians. Still, what I say is in my books. You want my proof? Look at the languages if you don't believe me. PRETANI is probably a genuinely Celtic name of the tribes of Albion. It survives today in modern Welsh as Prydain. Albion is the GREEK name for modern-day England, Wales, and Scotland, and was called ALBU in old Irish (pre-4th century), again, from ALBION. ALBA is the name of Scotland...
@WirocuPritanos Whoa, slow down there - the Celts descended from the Greeks (and-or Iberians, but Greek is more evident). The Celts did not include the Germans, or Old Europeans. They were different, and were in Europe WAY before the Celts. Tell me how the archaeology is not on my side. I've studied the Celts for six years now. I will have to check-out these books you pointed-out to me, though.
@WirocuPritanos True, they distinguish different Celtic tribes, but according to your statement, where did the Celts occupy? The problem with words like "Celt" is that it has much more meaning than a common misconception. I have no doubt that you have read Roman accounts , but understand that many Roman accounts are false. The Romans never told the exact truth of their opponents, only what THEY saw. The Greeks traded with many Celtic tribes, and even became allies at a time.
@WirocuPritanos Uh, that is correct, yes. At the peak of the Celts' expansion, they "controlled" (I prefer "occupied) northern Italy, the Pretannic Islands, Spain, Gaul, Galatia, and even some parts of northern turkey. The only areas they did not extend to were those occupied by the Old Europeans (Germans), which occupied territories east and north of the Celts, such as Germania (the Roman name for the territory from Elbe to Rhine) and Jutland. The historical record has this.
Julius Caesar stated that the natives of Albion and Ierne were Celts, known as the Pretani (mainly the Celt on Albion), and I see that you (finally, someone knows it) used it in your screen-name as opposed to "Briton". You want my source? Sure, I'll give it to you. I am a student of TGE Powell, writer of the book 'The Celts'. It is the one of the most accurate books around. I suggest reading it, as you seem (like me) interested in the Celts.
@WirocuPritanos All of the Celtic tribes (with the exception of the Gauls) descended from Greece way before Rome and the Etruscans. The Gauls may also have descended from Greece, but what evidence we have so far places them as descendants of Iberia. Trust me, you are a Celt by blood - all the history points to it, as does archaeological fact. :) Heddwch!!
@WirocuPritanos According to whom? The ancient Pretani WERE Celts (notice I say "Pretani", the TRUE name of the "Britons", which was a Latin mispronunciation of "Pretani/Preteni" and thus the Pretannic Islands, not "Britannia"), as were the Gauls, Belgae, our ancestors' allies and maybe relatives, the Picts, Scots, and the other Irish tribes were ALL Celts. The Keltoi/Keltine were what the Greeks called the Gauls, relating to "Celti/Celtici", the name the Romans used when addressing the Celts.
How is it that people who feel inferior always try to transfer those feelings on inadequacy through racial slurs. The celts of old would have just pushed @walleyrt69 face down into a bog. Who could blame them.
@WoollyMammoth9 Good question - I have no idea, but he is a pathetic piece of trash. He has 0 Celt in him, only hate. Believe me, I'd love to splat him down into a bog. Only Bear Grylls could save him then!
@walleyrt69 WTF... damn hater you are, asshole!! Ever know that the Irish Brigade of the Civil War fought on the Union side?? Freakin racist... you sound more like a German than a Celt
@walleyrt69 What the hell is wrong with you? Why does it even matter who mixed in with who we are all human beings and all share the same planet and therefore are all brothers and sisters.
@celticbattleaxe Ive about had it with you.Why dont you come to the Wisconsin Minnesota Border and lets have our own little battle "Bare Fists" in the woods all by ourselves. Then we will see just how much of a so called "Battle Ax" you are.More like" Battle Ax Faggot Ax "! PS,I am from about 75% Irish decent,I think my ancestors do know what its like to work like a dog on someone elses land like a Slave. Now I say this politely.GO F*CK YOURSELVE ! LOL
@walleyrt69 You sound no more Irish than the English by your tongue. Nice insults though, but you have quite a limited vocabulary. Your ancestors would spit in your face for your remarks to me, asshole. You keep forgetting that I am of you won blood. You started this BS with your stupid racial nonsense. The battleaxe that I am is the weapon of choice wielded by my kindred and myself. To me, you sound more like 75% asshole and racist than Irish. Bitch all you want - it doesn't help support you.
@celticbattleaxe Your supposed to be Blocked. Now go away.Last time I checked the Irish were White. If you want your blood to be mongrolled up with others, then go to Africa and breed them.I for 1 want my people to remain White. To late tho for many (Dark Dark Irish in America.)Now go away.
@walleyrt69 I'Um not going to - you are such a white supremacist that it makes me sick. So long as YO harass others, I WILL NOT STOP. I've taken out trolls like you before, so this should be fairly easy. I was right about you being 75% asshole rather than 75% Irish. Ever hear of the Irish Brigade that fought on the UNION SIDE in the Civil War? Please, lose your closed-mind, and learn to COEXIST. What are you, a WASP? or a KKK? By your insults and remarks, I bet you are.
@walleyrt69 It's a litle hard to block the person doing the right thing now - it will back-fire on you soon, for 1)lying 2)racism 3)being a troll. Go ahead and reply - I will spam each one, for your words are of poison and segregation. I never said we should "breed" with them, but rather COEXIST. Look it up in the dictionary, moron. You do not know what it means, and you should. United we stand, divided we fall. I thought all this racial Bullshit was cleared by Malcolm X, Dr. MLKJr, and Lincoln.
@walleyrt69 Gues I was wrong about it being cleared up. There always seem to be a few radical asshole like you who want nothing but control. You're just out for power. If you remember clearly, asshole, the Irish migrated to America mainly during the Potato Famine. When they came here, they learn to accept other races, and guess what else - they SUPPORTED them. They felt the same shit that the African Americans did. They worked in places that would be considered lethal today, and you insult them
@walleyrt69 Oh yeah - sure. I can tell you have A LOT of respect for our ancestors. RIGHT!!!
NOT!!! If you gave a damn, maybe you would release all this racism and negativity. I never let ANYONE say the "n" word in front of me or around me. You started this mess with that, and you just kept on insulting them from there. Good luck in the real world, jerk. I"m going to laugh if you get hired for a job where your boss is African American, and he fires you for this crap you say.
@walleyrt69 Our ancestors NEVER once had any racial supremacist ideals. Maybe your WASP ancestors did. Tell me a time in history when the Irish EVER had ANY issues with helping African Americans get their freedom. TELL ME. I wouldn't try wikipedia, though - they are too unreliable. Go on, tell me. History (and Psychology) is my major.
@walleyrt69 Dude, you know that if you lie about blocking someone, like me, it will back-fire on you? Your account will be suspended. Good luck with youtube!
WE ARE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Proud to be Irish, Scottish and Welsh!! Proud to be of the Celtic religion, a religion that Christians will never understand.
My DNA is that of the hunter-gatherers who came here just after the last ice age this is before "celts" had left Asia, so can the Johnny come lately celts piss off back to where you came from.
well i love celtic stuff but i'm mexican well theres a chance that im actaually celtic or germanic because my family comes from spain, france italy and germany... and i'm semi-blonde (haha that's almost my life story)
At one time Celts ruled (by Clans) various parts of Europe from the Balkans to the British Isles and parts of "Iberia" (Spain).
Most people of Western and (western)Central European heritage have celtic bloodlines, (even those in Bavaria and Croatia-Serbia)
The Celts mixed with the Norse, other Scandinavians and Germanic groups where the cultures were side by side. They also mixed with some Slavs, as well as Greeks & Romans (Italians).
Celts are probably the only culture that goes sooo back in history of Europe like the Greeks...yes it is true there has been connection between these 2 ancient cultures because the word celts = keltos comes from Greek...they never actually ruled Greece but some part of the rest of Balkan yes!
@volkolak45 Indeed - the Celts have returned!! And yes, our religion is restored - good thing more people are aware of the world today. Blessed Be! )0(
Um no your wrong. The Aryans are yes and Indo-European people. You are Aryas if you are Indian, Pakistani or Indoeuropean. The Germans and Celts are not related to them really. Why do you think Indias caste system was done by skin color?
Celtic people (Irish, Welsh, Scotsmen, Brittany, Galicians ect are Genetically Identical to basques and very different to English, germans and scandinavians - more genetic facts - next! Aryan is not a race its a fantasy and a freak show - we are a real people.
the Aryan race is a figment of your imagination and any allegiance you may think we owe to it is your delusion. Please dont proclaim to me discredited racial theory when I present to you the Genetic facts. the Celts are not the people you want us to be and we dont want to be. It is our genetics that can be traced as the most cohesive in the world for 10's of thousands of years - not the Germans, nobody has a clue what they have in them. The Germanic people walk on our coat tails
simply put we Celtys are not what you want us to be - of course their are the descendants of Celts throughout Europe - the Germans are our illegitimate off spring though god only knows their hereditary. we Celts, Basques and Sammi people are ancient people essentially the direct genetic descendants of Cro Magnon man.
Kind of yes and no, the Celts are Indo European and so are the Germans. The Basques are a language Isolate which predates the Indo-European languages. They are most likely older than the Celts.
you lose - we are not a blonde race - nor do we ever want to be - we know our culture and who our kin is and it aint the Huns - we have been at war with the Huns for millenia.
hown in green with Indigenous Americans being closest to the Kets and Selkups as well. We are indeed close "blood brothers". Similarly, a close relationship can be shown between us Celts and Central Asians particularly the Yuezhi-Tocharian-Kushan-derived part of the Uyghur people"
Professor Steve Jones is a world-acclaimed Cymreig (Welsh) Geneticist
Also important to us is the close ancestral relationship of aboriginal Siberians called Kets and Selkups shown in orange to us Celts and Basques shown in red and to Chinese (and South-East Asians including Indonesians)
Bullshit mate, the Celts are the Indigenous European and British race along with the Basques and the Sammi - the people who identify themselves as Celtic today are Aboriginals not "Aryans".
The celts don't exist anymore! Stop dreaming...everyone who is a sad lonely tieresome bore always tries to infringe on a culture thats gone!!...hence the american obsession with celts and spartans LOL
im thinking from where u think im black ? jsut because im from brazil ? u dumb bastard !!! im a caucasian um dumb fuck !!! suck my white dick motherfucker !!!
My DNA says i'm descended from the indigenous people of Britain, who crossed the land-bridge from mainland Europe about 5'000 years before the celts came out of Asia.
It was tribes like the cruithne and the ulaidh who first founded Ireland..and it seems likely they stepped across from Scotland. @eirezrevenge All of Britain is Celtic. Celts are nothern European. I think the term you are looking for Is Gaelic.
NicenEasyuk 8 months ago
@eirezrevenge I agree, by the way, It's "Scotland" not "scottland".
Also "Celtic" is only the same in terms of language root, that doesn't make us the same people, it's a modern term that doesn't pre-date the 1800's when it was first used by a Linguist to group languages together that had a common root, but there is a common bond between the nations within the British isles compared to England which uses Germanic influence.

@segano1 sorry to tell but i havent got my info from yanks, i got it from a travel to scotland and ireland myself, ther history is linked to the eroupean, and we settled there ,sure some of us raided you and some of us died and gut the heads severed, but all in all some of us settled there amoung you, and the irish part of culture, whit the river avalon, has it parts to northern belives on that time, but we still had something to say to your culture, but agein so have you to ours,
gunnerthedenmark 8 months ago
@gunnerthedenmark and by the way most of us "yanks" arnt clueless, some of us do our research, some of us listen to our grandfathers who fled from the british to america, just as the native americans are still in some small way tied to this land we are still tied to the homeland, and btw i hate American bullshit. the celts and the natives have much in common, i truely wish they could rise up and take there land back.
gmsm520 5 months ago

@eirezrevenge most welsh are mixed with anglo saxon and roman, just like the scottish have a lot of anglo saxon and irish
TranceExplosion 3 months ago
The anglo saxons are celts too, They just went a different rout to get to The british Isles, instead of going west they went east, ended up in Germany, Started to migrate back towards the west, came in contact with the Celts and fought them, then realized that they were fighting their own people and stop, They united with celts are went to the British Isles with them. The welsh, Scots, Irish, and English are all Celts. They all share the same history, and myth's.

does the celtic paganism has any relationship with the norse asatru?
jin54363 1 year ago
@jin54363 Well, to be blunt, not really. Asatru focuses more on the Aesir. Asatru means "loyal to the Aesir gods". The Celts were more Nature based, so to the Scandinavians, the Celts would worship on the Vanir or Seidr level (Frejya taught Odin Seidr magick).
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@WirocuPritanos Well, Keltoi was used before Caesar by the Greeks, and was applied, yes, to the Gauls at first. The Gauls, particularly the cis-alpine tribes, traded with the Greeks (wine especially :) ).
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@WirocuPritanos Well, they used Greek script (as well as their own Ogham alphabet and later used the Runes as well), and the language of ancient Ireland had Greek connection. Not all Celts were Greek, that is true, but the ones in the Pretannic Isles were. The Gauls may have been a mix of both Greek and Iberian.
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@WirocuPritanos Published in the early 80s, I believe. I agree, some of what is in their is wrong, but I have a modern historical encyclopedia to back-me-up.
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@WirocuPritanos Don't forget the Hallstatt as well :). I know about the biased evidence. That's the problem with reading Roman resources (no offense). A lot of what they stated about the Celts was wrong, such as ritual "sacrifice". There is no such bull in my religion to support that, nor was there ever. If "st." Patrick didn't burn all those Irish texts (in Ogham and GREEK alphabet), then we might know a lot more fact.
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@celticbattleaxe I have no doubt they DID occasionally practice ritual killing, like most cultures. The Irish legend of Cromm Cruach hints at it. In the last few years the bodies of several high status men have been found in Irish bogs who are thought to be 'sacred kings' sacrificed to the land. This tallies with English Lindow man and bodies in one time celtic areas of Europe. These people were headhunters and no 'fluffy bunnies'!
sonofherne 2 months ago
@sonofherne True, indeed - that's partially what scared the %$#& out of the Romans :).
The problem is that we still don't know for sure if they did practice ritual killing. The Roman documents are biased - they never told the exact truth about their enemies. Caesar wrote "the Gallic Wars" mainly to convince the Senate to allow him to continue his conquest of Gaul (and later, Albion). And courtesy of "st." Patrick burning many of the old documents, we can only speculate :(.
celticbattleaxe 2 months ago
@WirocuPritanos That is only what Caesar called them, and only he alone did not call them Celts.
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@WirocuPritanos Uh, the Irish called their homeland by a Greek word. The Celts have little record of being descents of Iberia. The Greeks are more likely. In ancient Greek, there were few similarities between that and Latin. Roman influence didn't come until the AD period, way after the Celts first became known.
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@celticbattleaxe .The Irish people's own myths speak of Spain as an origin for their people. Newgrange is an Iberian style passage grave.Portugueses bronze age earrings have turned up in Ireland. That's to say nothing of the dna which is far closest to that of the Atlantic seaboard than to Greece. That said, there is evidence of some bronze age trade between Britain and Greece (esp Delos.)
sonofherne 2 months ago
@sonofherne Linguist's believe that extinct "Tartessian" could be the oldest ( so far ) found Celtic language, so that's another link with Iberia...
Nemeton212 2 months ago
@sonofherne Which makes sense, as the language of the Lusitani, is Q Celtic :).
Yeah, there was definitely trade between Albion and Greece. I don't about direct routes, but the Veneti (in modern-day Brittany) traded with other Gauls who traded with the Greeks. The Gauls who lived in the Alps especially traded with the Greeks - look at some of the artwork in the area, and you can see figures of Alpine chieftains drinking LOTS of wine, most likely Greek wine.
celticbattleaxe 2 months ago
@sonofherne Have a look at the study done by Balaresque et al...where it shows the earliest lineage of man comes NOT from Iberia as some supposed but rather from the Balkans and Middle East.

I thankyou for debating with me,
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@WirocuPritanos ...that also has Greek origin. This was probably the Irish name for Scotland, from the Scotti invasion, which eventually led to the uniting of Pictish and Scottish royal houses.
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@WirocuPritanos I never said that the Gauls were Iberian. I said that they may have connections to Iberians. Still, what I say is in my books. You want my proof? Look at the languages if you don't believe me. PRETANI is probably a genuinely Celtic name of the tribes of Albion. It survives today in modern Welsh as Prydain. Albion is the GREEK name for modern-day England, Wales, and Scotland, and was called ALBU in old Irish (pre-4th century), again, from ALBION. ALBA is the name of Scotland...
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@WirocuPritanos Whoa, slow down there - the Celts descended from the Greeks (and-or Iberians, but Greek is more evident). The Celts did not include the Germans, or Old Europeans. They were different, and were in Europe WAY before the Celts. Tell me how the archaeology is not on my side. I've studied the Celts for six years now. I will have to check-out these books you pointed-out to me, though.
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@WirocuPritanos True, they distinguish different Celtic tribes, but according to your statement, where did the Celts occupy? The problem with words like "Celt" is that it has much more meaning than a common misconception. I have no doubt that you have read Roman accounts , but understand that many Roman accounts are false. The Romans never told the exact truth of their opponents, only what THEY saw. The Greeks traded with many Celtic tribes, and even became allies at a time.
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@WirocuPritanos Uh, that is correct, yes. At the peak of the Celts' expansion, they "controlled" (I prefer "occupied) northern Italy, the Pretannic Islands, Spain, Gaul, Galatia, and even some parts of northern turkey. The only areas they did not extend to were those occupied by the Old Europeans (Germans), which occupied territories east and north of the Celts, such as Germania (the Roman name for the territory from Elbe to Rhine) and Jutland. The historical record has this.
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
@WirocuPritanos To meet your challenge:
I suggest reading it, as you seem (like me) interested in the Celts.
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago
anyone no the name of this song ^^
ilovemjlots 1 year ago
@WirocuPritanos All of the Celtic tribes (with the exception of the Gauls) descended from Greece way before Rome and the Etruscans. The Gauls may also have descended from Greece, but what evidence we have so far places them as descendants of Iberia. Trust me, you are a Celt by blood - all the history points to it, as does archaeological fact. :) Heddwch!!
celticbattleaxe 1 year ago

The Celts are not a race. They are a culture.
BoudiccaBlanc 2 years ago 7
In Iberia, Celts also mixed with Berber tribes of Morocco.
Celtic megaliths have been discovered in Northwestern Africa, Malta and along the West European coast.
Some speculate that there was an extensive trading culture up & down the coast (as well as inland).
The "Iceman" who was found in Switzerland-Italy was in possession of goods from other areas Europe.
Graves of the nobility & warriors have been discovered that contained beautiful, chariots, weapons, jewelry, etc.
BoudiccaBlanc 2 years ago
Celts are probably the only culture that goes sooo back in history of Europe like the Greeks...yes it is true there has been connection between these 2 ancient cultures because the word celts = keltos comes from Greek...they never actually ruled Greece but some part of the rest of Balkan yes!

the Aryan race is a figment of your imagination and any allegiance you may think we owe to it is your delusion. simply put we Celtys are not what you want us to be - of course their are the descendants of Celts throughout Europe - the Germans are our illegitimate off spring though god only knows their hereditary. we Celts, Basques and Sammi people are ancient people essentially the direct genetic descendants of Cro Magnon man.

Kind of yes and no, the Celts are Indo European and so are the Germans. The Basques are a language Isolate which predates the Indo-European languages. They are most likely older than the Celts.

So you like to getting pissed pretend to have a fight with someone else who's pissed go home and be sick and you like listening to U2.
