  • I don't think her spins are so extraordinary: she has a great flexibility but think about the number of the revolutions or the speed: today there are a lot of skaters who have better spins!

  • To lose to Kimmie and and Fuguri....she could've done so much better...

Sasha what total avoidable mistakes you make... :(

I agree with tinymavy. Sasha heart wasn't in it like we have seen it so many times before. She was too burnt out emotionally after Torino.

Seeing her fall when she is completely capable of skating a perfect gorgeous program is frustrating!

  • can she ever stop falling!!! she fell out of 3 jumps my god!!!

  • She had good technique on most of her jumps. I honestly don't think she ever executed a lutz jump, all of them were flutzes. She always seemed to rush her toe loops though...Either was she was an amazing skater but an awful competitor. Sasha was made for ice shows...not competition.

  • Sasha has so-so techniques, which explains much of her inconsistency. Watch skaters like Shizuka or even Irina for deep secure edges which Sasha lacks.

  • The best parts of her technique was her straight back, which Dick Button pointed out everytime she stepped on the ice. She had good posture for a skater too. Great spins, great presence...but her inconsistencies were her Kryptonite.

  • Well a straight back is all well and good but if you can't land the jumps then you can't land the jumps. And landing the jumps is kinda the whole point. Her edges were off.

But yes, her spins and spiral are exceptional.

  • she had awful edges; sometimes it just looked as though her landing edges would collapse. she had strong, albeit shallow, edges on her spirals but her landing edges were never solid...

  • Herm712...

Before you think I am bashing you I agree with a lot of what you say; Sasha was gorgeous on the ice but never skated her capable best when it counted. What really bothered me about your comment however is the way you act as if Sasha has never landed a solid jump, and yes she's landed PLENTY of solid jumps in competition. Her main edge problem was in her triple lutz which she tended to flutz on. If she wasn't a strong competitor than how come she she always made the podium in Worlds?

  • she only medaled at worlds 3 times; it took her 2 tries before she finally made it to the podium in 2004. she won 2 silvers and a bronze, which is great , but given her talent it's sad that she never made it to the top of the podium. she has landed a bunch of solid jumps that's true; but the thing was she was usually up against a perfect/near-perfect Michelle Kwan which made Sasha's errors, no matter how big or small, stand out tenfold and she usually ended up 2nd.

  • Exactly she's medaled three times at worlds. Does that seem little to you?

Your going up against the best and if your not a good competitor you'll get shot down.

True it's sad how the only time she beat Michelle was in a Campbell's competition (still a competition) If Sasha had always been a consistent skater Michelle wouldn't have won nowhere as many medals as she has. Even with the falls Sasha always had technically harder programs. Sasha's problem was the pressure, and her recurring injuries.

  • Yeah and about she always made the podium in worlds I meant it in a she usually makes thep podium in worlds...lol Makes me look as if I'm giving her too much credit. So I wanted to clear that up. However she's never placed under fourth, and that goes for ALMOST every major competition she's competed in. She may not have been the world's greatest jumper, but you can't deny that she's had quite a career. :)

  • absolutely, for a skater, she's had a wonderful career. i'm really excited to see if the time off has helped her. it'd be nice to have an american back on the podium, that's for sure. but the competition is a lot tougher than it was the last time she competed. no matter what happens, this season is going to be awesome...

  • Well you definitely have to worry about Yuna and Mao since they are such massive jumpers, but I feel that the time off has really helped her. There's also been a lot of rumors that Sasha has been landing 3 3 combinations, but only time will tell.

  • We still can't ignore some of the upcoming American skaters. I love Sasha but a lot of the young skaters like Ashley Wagner, Mirai, Flatt still have their time to bloom. Hopefully she can get her jumps together and stand at the top of the podium in Nationals. Without a doubt this season will be amazing; anything can happen in this sport that's what makes it thrilling.

  • you can tell that her heart wasn't in it. She wanted the olympic gold and then retire. you can see it in her eyes. but the first two jumps were effortless. if only.....

  • After all the years of watching her, I came to a simple conclusion. She's not for competitive skating. Its not like her jump tech needs some work or improvements. Its too late for that, and its just not for her. She'll be a good ice show skater.

  • Thank you!! That's what I always say but then people attack me! She was beautiful to watch, but she did not hold up under pressure at all. Skaters have to be able to channel that nervousness and turn it into something good...Sasha never got the hang of that and could never put together 2 clean programs at the big events. But she is brillant at exhibition skating. That is her forte and I honestly don't think she should come back to compete.

  • i think wat happens is that the momentum from the jump makes her other leg swing a lot, and it throws her off balance if u know wat im saying. she knows how to land them but her other leg needs to be a little more in control is wat i think. crazy spirals!!!!! AMAZING!!!!

  • *Great Quality*

It just confuses me...Cohen has perfect landings on her blades, it's just that she seems to fall as her other leg unwraveles. Many skaters fall b/c the other foot hits the ice, underroate, overrotate, etc. But Cohen lands it fine, but as soon as that other leg unwravels, sometimes she falls. Just a curious thought.

  • You have a good point. Her landings are perfect, but it's the other leg she has problems with. I wonder why?

  • her weight was on the back of her blade for the flip, and again in the toe loop and salchow, how is that perfect? If anything, she needs to find a better way to check her jumps because they spin so very fast in the air. It must be difficult to control. Her late check makes the centrifugal force drive her weight to the back of the blade, and she has no chance of landing it cleanly. That's my theory, at least lol

  • Arizonian is right. Her landing weight was off. Probably because she did not get enough height on the jump; while the rotation wasn't short, she couldn't balance herself. She also doesn't have the deepest edges on landings.

  • those spirals are simply amazing..

she is like no other skater out there

  • i hate it when she falls

  • Me too. :(
