In the original song, while the sorpanos hold the tonic, the tenors also start on it, so it provides a little stability. Nobody ever sings this song exactly how it was written (which sometimes makes it painful to listen to), but these ladies did a fine job and there was no key change.

girl in the middle -- sing from your diaphragm... you are signing from your throat... you have a decent voice with potential... take ten deep breaths before you sing... inhale and exhale... that should clear your throat and allow you to come from your diaphragm... no holding in your stomach... just sing
