This last account by Ali Ahmida sounds problematic to me. So basically, he was popular at first but as the country went under international sanctions and became isolated, corruption and repression became widespread within the govt. and he did nothing to stop it, so the people got tired of him and overthrew him. What is so hard to understand about that?
@HistorysMysterys Let Khadafi`s lapdogs bark for the loss of a dictator which they were hoping that he would control their lives. Now that Hitler and Stalin and Bin Laden are death, many slaves here are desperate for getting a new master. So desperate that thy found a clownish killed like Khadafi.
Ignorant people like you, who never travelled nor read books, have masters. And you don't even realize it. Intelligent people don't need masters. Silly living beings like you do. And your masters are those that brainwash you everyday with bullshit. You're the perfect product of mainstream media. They can sell you whatever they want. You're the product of bad education. Of lies and deceivement. You're the perfect citizen of the establishment.
Perhaps some stress could be afforded to the lack of evidence in both the bombing and the so-called executions... All in all well put but from a profoundly one -sided approach - where people, after having their country rebuilt, change their perception of what is necessary - finding guilt for all their issues with the one person who would not open the country up to neo-colonial interests. (Oil is still theirs, unless the new power in Libya decides to yield where Gaddafi did not)
But how does that compute - after independence health-care and social care were afforded every one, women's rights followed - housing complexes erected - in what way did regime fail the people - the people (corruption) may have failed the people.
I am a U.S. citizen, and I am HIGHLY skeptical of the information presented in this interview...haven't gotten to the bottom of it yet...but I will. Susan Lindauer talks a bit about Lockerbi and it definitely doesn't jive with what we're often told...
About Lockerbie, neither Gaddafi nor Magrehi had anything to do with the bombing. For a start, watch the documentary called "The Maltese Double Cross". Then read lots of documents easily found on the internet, including UN reports and the entire Scottish jurists and law professors, that explain very well how the trial was a farce and Gaddafi had nothing to do whatsoever with Lockerbie, Berlin or the killing of the policewoman in London.

Ahmida, you keep repeating the phrase "corruption". Corruption is everywhere. There's corruption in every country in the world. Why are you obsessed about Libyan corruption.
Why does this Ahmida talk about Gaddafy's "regime" when it is very well known that Gaddafy had no real power. This historian should know that Gaddafy had executive functions, limited to enforcing the decidions made by the council of tribes. He would have been sacked long ago if he took his own initiatives, especially by the Sanussi tribe.
Have you ever wondered how many knowledgeable people would laugh at YOU? The sad part is that you're ignorant without even knowing the level of your ignorance.
Do you have the slightest idea about the structure of power in Libya? If you did, you would know that Gaddafi had little power. He was mainly the spokesman of the Council of Tribes. All decisions were taken by the Tribes, in particular by the Sanussi tribe.
This guy says that he doesn't know if Gaddafy was responsible of the Pan Am bopmbing. It is very well known that neither Gaddafy nor Megrahi had absolutely NOTHING to do with such crime. So why this Ahmida guy avoid the issue? If he's an historian, why doesn't he say that Gaddafi never killed one single innocent civilian?
He was either good or bad; right here in the US some say Obama is good, some say he is not, same is said about every president. But for the US and foreign powers to declare a preemptive war is definitely NOT Good..and legitimizes Gaddafi`s cause. Therefore I say VIVA GADDAFI
Bias in this video. At 14:05 Ahmida says the programme to end corruption was aborted implying was fault of the 'Gaddafi regime'. What he doesn't say is that it was some in the Libyan power elite who were corrupt, many now in the NTC.
For years Gaddafi and Saif al-Islam tried to end corruption, even suggested giving oil profits directly to the people, but People’s Congress voted in February 2009 to delay and then in March rejected the plan.
@evergreenlibya ...im not sure you know the definition of a dictator, bud. most of the people hated him. in a democracy, he would be voted out and nobody would have to die. because he couldnt get voted out, it struck a civil war. good guy or bad, you can never run a country through dictatorship.

@Jokernose69 Because our culture is vastly superior. At the end of the day the tribalism that dominates the african continent is not competitive with other nations. China, USA, Russia all developed on from tribalism whereas Africa has gotten better technologically but socially their culture is still tribal and that makes them very weak.
The man seems knowledgeable and honest, but he changes registry with a weird tone while talking about the current problems in Libya. Also, while many say the same thing, many say exactly the opposite, that life in Libya is (well... was) very good.
He calls the youth radicalized islamist. THat is werid, if the Libya is a Arabic North African State and it is Radical. Then the youth follow Gaddafi then they are already radicalized islamist. The way he states it is like boogey man. WHen they are 98% muslim in Libya.
blah blah blah, here we go again. Its always the same people who blame wars in the middle east on "western greed" but the same people would not let our own oil be drilled in the states soo that we would be far less dependent on them. Frankly i dont care what you brain washed, laimbrained hippies think. Whatever reason you think we are in Lybia for, fact is we are there, and no matter what you wish would happen, if we put boots on the ground we will do our jobs, and we do our jobs VERY well.
Ali forgot to mention that CIA NGOs further radicalized, emboldened, (and will ultimately betray) manipulated & armed those disgruntled within the population to revolt.
anybody who makes a deal with bush is screwed royally - there is nothing worse in this world than dealing with a mafioso leader who has below 80 IQ and has a bunch of blood-crazy henchmen by his side.
Countries which have resources like oil and don't want to sell it at an unreasonable low price (for the profits, especially of the US corporations) will get sanctions, undercover attacks and/or war.
The Lockerbie bombings are getting more and more a false flag operation of the western Secret Services, blamed on Gaddafi. Like we saw it in many other cases.
The long list of US crimes and those of the US allies ("international community") must be STOPPED!
Gaddafi could have prevented this. I was against the invasion but now that the US is in it, kick his ass and drop him off in Banghazi with Love. Then, go home and stay out of foreign affairs (I doubt this will happen). We can't afford this, isn't a $15,000,000,000,000 debt enough? No one appreciates the US, let someone else play Superman. People would rather see a tyrant slaughter his own people than see the US involved. Just look at the YouTube comments if you think I am wrong.
Before they go the filthy criminals of the US-administration of the last Decades should be prosecuted and punished! Many US-warcrimes took place just in Iraq, worldwide kidnapping and torture without any proof, court, etc. The US administration is not only destroying other countries economically and socially, but also cheating and exploiting US soldiers & citizens!
Also Sarkozy, Cameron or Merkel are ruthless Puppets having the blood of many 10.000s of innocents on their hands!
@HousekaterClaudio If that is so, all the more reason for those who were and/or still are the leadership of such places as Libya, Iraq, Yemen and Iran etc., to show everyone else how civilised behaviour is conducted, in the 21st century, in contrast to being utterly abysmal, even by the alleged standards of the 9th century. Where there is virtue, people will follow. Which is why the flow of people is to the west, and not the east--Israel excepted.
long live Qaddafi!Long live his pro African revolution for socialism & Africa Unity.Stand with him against the right wing conservative anti-black Arab counter revolution!
well I am glad to hear from a person with an academic background, but this probably says more about our universities in the US than Libyan history.... the political dissidents murdered in 96 were islamists? Then that was ok... The crazy neoliberal salad reforms Ghadafi talked about in March 2008 were disturbing to his people and Ali doesn't even address it
@norehct Why is it okay to massacre 1200 Islamist? The overwhelming majority of us Muslims are Islamist, we wish to remove the dictators in our lands stemming from the colonial period to re-establish a government in life with our beleifs ie the Caliphate. What makes a westerners life more valuable then an Islamist, a communist or anything else?
The fact is USA supports dictators like mubarak, ghadhafi, ben Ali all of whom we over threw, Democracy= hypocrisy
@frozenimran Democracy is a joke , I agree, we are all equal , we all breathe the same air and inhabit the same planet.. JFK...its the religion that devides every one on the planet... the sooner we lose religius beliefs , the better off we will all be and get along. unfortuneately this will never happen, we need a big reset on the planet and start again with the truth behind why & how we are all here :)
@angie7dino I love hearing these left leaning nonsense arguments...
"we're all equal... because we all breathe air!".... "we're all equal because we all bleed red!"
liberalism is dead- stop recycling stale old marxist hokum- the world has been raped enough by that conspiracy parading itself as a serious political ideology
@angie7dino It's not religion. It's the way people marginalize those that are different from them. If religion were completely eliminated, something else would take its place. People would become fixated on national pride and differences, ethnic differences, regional differences, etc. Ex. If someone hates people who are religious, they should ask why. It's amazing to me that the people who talk about love and world peace will say things in the same breath that harbor the root of the problem.
@angie7dino The Prophet said "He who calls to Aasibiyah(Nationalism, Tribalism, racism)is not a Believer"
We believe its nationalism which is what divides people. the idea that IM AMERICAN so its okay to kill 1 million Iraqis cause they are not American. Under the Islamic Caliphate, we only had 1 Nation, where blacks, arabs, whites, indians lived under ONE FLAG of "THere is no ruler but GOD". under which Islam was the super power. Capitalist fight it because it poses a direct threat to it
@angie7dino that Islamic Super state known as Caliphate was the center of the world for scientific learning, introduced the first universites, sewage systems, and so on. Chrsitians and jews came to the Islamic world to find economic justice, the state eliminated poverty with a system known as zakat and jizya. in 1924 however britian led europe to conquer the state, split it into 57 countries under secular dictatorships meant to suppress Muslims and control oil
@frozenimran you dont know your history, just enough to throw bias opinion in and attempt to call it fact. FACT is, both christians and muslims began their cursades both killing mercilessly civilians and all those who oposed either side. Muslims lost ultimatly because they INFACT can never unite under one ballar as their leaders are often persuaded by the most synical man known to man, AKA, muhamid.
history lessons from a person who can't even spell 'cynical', 'crusades', 'opposed', 'biased', 'ultimately', 'in fact', 'banner' and 'mohammed' properly.
@aceaircav1 lol at first I thought you were going to give a real answer with history and evidence but you just threw out rather odd opinions about killing civilians and... blah blah blah? And your perfect? Communist and capitalist never killed any civilians are you sure you want to go that route? Rather Islamic history is clean from any bloody hands, we dont have holocausts, inquisitions, crusades, nuking and crap in our history. MOst of bloodshed was on the battle field WHERE IT SHOULD BE
@frozenimran realy? you dont know your own history very well then. Since the BIRTH of islam civilians have been victimized by the muslims who were attacking. The Quran , or how ever you spell it, is not just full of faulacies but full of hatred, bigitry and blasphamy. So when terrorist tell me that they are doing what they belive in, I honestly belive them. Thats not to say that christians and jews havent had there day in the sun but to claim islam as "clean" is as wrong as it gets.
@aceaircav1 If you look for Usama bin Ladins videos, he explains the war on USA is in response to USA suporting Israel, Arab Dictators like Saudi arabia, and USA theft of Muslim resources like Oil.
Many Americans still think terrorist are trying to kill them because they drink bear, and women dont wear scarves... people dont kill others to take freedom away!!! THEY FIGHT TO GAIN FREEDOM
What your saying is misleading. When you are talking about states you do comparisons and same with religions. Islam had a more civilian friendly policy to civilians. It also allowed women more rights and more rights to non believers than the other two major religions. It also had more socio-economic flexibility of movement for non believers and people from different nationalities. Further they had better education policies. I do not think you are even being objective.
@frozenimran, really? The PROBLEM IS---v look down
Islam = DARFUR genocide! Islam = ARMENIAN genocide! Islam = Damour massacre ! Islam = Hebron massacre ! Islam = 9/11! Islam = Mumbai india! Islam = Madrid sub way! Islam = London attacks! Islam = Paris attacks! Islam = Glasgow airport! Islam = Thailand attacks! Islam = Beslan school attacks! Islam = Indonesia attacks! Islam = Philippine attacks! Islam = Pedophilia! Islam = Honor killing! Islam = Rape of women! Islam = Hanging.
What can you say all politics is double edged. Then again Political Nihilism means chaos.

Its ALWAYS the same:
Countries which have resources like oil and don't want to sell it at an unreasonable low price (for the profits, especially of the US corporations) will get sanctions, undercover attacks and/or war.
The Lockerbie bombings are getting more and more a false flag operation of the western Secret Services, blamed on Gaddafi. Like we saw it in many other cases.
The long list of US crimes and those of the US allies ("international community") must be STOPPED!
HousekaterClaudio 11 months ago

HousekaterClaudio 11 months ago
@HousekaterClaudio If that is so, all the more reason for those who were and/or still are the leadership of such places as Libya, Iraq, Yemen and Iran etc., to show everyone else how civilised behaviour is conducted, in the 21st century, in contrast to being utterly abysmal, even by the alleged standards of the 9th century. Where there is virtue, people will follow. Which is why the flow of people is to the west, and not the east--Israel excepted.

well I am glad to hear from a person with an academic background, but this probably says more about our universities in the US than Libyan history.... the political dissidents murdered in 96 were islamists? Then that was ok... The crazy neoliberal salad reforms Ghadafi talked about in March 2008 were disturbing to his people and Ali doesn't even address it
norehct 11 months ago
@norehct Why is it okay to massacre 1200 Islamist? The overwhelming majority of us Muslims are Islamist, we wish to remove the dictators in our lands stemming from the colonial period to re-establish a government in life with our beleifs ie the Caliphate. What makes a westerners life more valuable then an Islamist, a communist or anything else?
The fact is USA supports dictators like mubarak, ghadhafi, ben Ali all of whom we over threw, Democracy= hypocrisy
frozenimran 11 months ago
@frozenimran Democracy is a joke , I agree, we are all equal , we all breathe the same air and inhabit the same planet.. JFK...its the religion that devides every one on the planet... the sooner we lose religius beliefs , the better off we will all be and get along. unfortuneately this will never happen, we need a big reset on the planet and start again with the truth behind why & how we are all here :)
angie7dino 11 months ago
@angie7dino I love hearing these left leaning nonsense arguments...
"we're all equal... because we all breathe air!".... "we're all equal because we all bleed red!"
liberalism is dead- stop recycling stale old marxist hokum- the world has been raped enough by that conspiracy parading itself as a serious political ideology
lictor313 11 months ago
@angie7dino It's not religion. It's the way people marginalize those that are different from them. If religion were completely eliminated, something else would take its place. People would become fixated on national pride and differences, ethnic differences, regional differences, etc. Ex. If someone hates people who are religious, they should ask why. It's amazing to me that the people who talk about love and world peace will say things in the same breath that harbor the root of the problem.
jsuisenface 11 months ago
@angie7dino The Prophet said "He who calls to Aasibiyah(Nationalism, Tribalism, racism)is not a Believer"
We believe its nationalism which is what divides people. the idea that IM AMERICAN so its okay to kill 1 million Iraqis cause they are not American. Under the Islamic Caliphate, we only had 1 Nation, where blacks, arabs, whites, indians lived under ONE FLAG of "THere is no ruler but GOD". under which Islam was the super power. Capitalist fight it because it poses a direct threat to it
frozenimran 11 months ago
@angie7dino that Islamic Super state known as Caliphate was the center of the world for scientific learning, introduced the first universites, sewage systems, and so on. Chrsitians and jews came to the Islamic world to find economic justice, the state eliminated poverty with a system known as zakat and jizya. in 1924 however britian led europe to conquer the state, split it into 57 countries under secular dictatorships meant to suppress Muslims and control oil
frozenimran 11 months ago
@frozenimran you dont know your history, just enough to throw bias opinion in and attempt to call it fact. FACT is, both christians and muslims began their cursades both killing mercilessly civilians and all those who oposed either side. Muslims lost ultimatly because they INFACT can never unite under one ballar as their leaders are often persuaded by the most synical man known to man, AKA, muhamid.
aceaircav1 11 months ago

history lessons from a person who can't even spell 'cynical', 'crusades', 'opposed', 'biased', 'ultimately', 'in fact', 'banner' and 'mohammed' properly.
MySockPuppeteer 11 months ago
@aceaircav1 lol at first I thought you were going to give a real answer with history and evidence but you just threw out rather odd opinions about killing civilians and... blah blah blah? And your perfect? Communist and capitalist never killed any civilians are you sure you want to go that route? Rather Islamic history is clean from any bloody hands, we dont have holocausts, inquisitions, crusades, nuking and crap in our history. MOst of bloodshed was on the battle field WHERE IT SHOULD BE
frozenimran 11 months ago
@frozenimran realy? you dont know your own history very well then. Since the BIRTH of islam civilians have been victimized by the muslims who were attacking. The Quran , or how ever you spell it, is not just full of faulacies but full of hatred, bigitry and blasphamy. So when terrorist tell me that they are doing what they belive in, I honestly belive them. Thats not to say that christians and jews havent had there day in the sun but to claim islam as "clean" is as wrong as it gets.
aceaircav1 11 months ago
@aceaircav1 If you look for Usama bin Ladins videos, he explains the war on USA is in response to USA suporting Israel, Arab Dictators like Saudi arabia, and USA theft of Muslim resources like Oil.
Many Americans still think terrorist are trying to kill them because they drink bear, and women dont wear scarves... people dont kill others to take freedom away!!! THEY FIGHT TO GAIN FREEDOM
frozenimran 11 months ago
@aceaircav1
Ryukikon 11 months ago
@frozenimran, really? The PROBLEM IS---v look down
Islam = DARFUR genocide! Islam = ARMENIAN genocide! Islam = Damour massacre ! Islam = Hebron massacre ! Islam = 9/11! Islam = Mumbai india! Islam = Madrid sub way! Islam = London attacks! Islam = Paris attacks! Islam = Glasgow airport! Islam = Thailand attacks! Islam = Beslan school attacks! Islam = Indonesia attacks! Islam = Philippine attacks! Islam = Pedophilia! Islam = Honor killing! Islam = Rape of women! Islam = Hanging.
