  • Good video and well explained. Each Enfield has it's own little way of starting I find.

    midlandbullets.co.uk

  • @pjcmjc Thanks! Everyone has their own unique way of starting their Enfield. I was surprised at how many comments this video got. I wanted to show the basic principles in the video for anyone (like me) who bought an Enfield in a place where no one else has one, from a seller who didn't know anything about the bike or how to get it started or keep it running.

  • I own a Yamaha R1-5 sports bike right now, and i so wanna have my Bullet.... Cruising all around.........

I have found an 350 cc RE Bullet with 5,980 km. Its quite dusty and has a little rust on it, I am thinking to tell the guy to sell it to me for 30,000 rupees or less... What do you guys think ??

  • @GameronMaximus That equals about $600 in American money, which would be a great deal for the bike in the US. I'm not sure what the average used price in India would be.

  • @hoohoohoblin thankyou for the quick reply, cheers ;

  • And if you really need it kick over so much, maybe you should do some adjsuting on it..

  • .. and what about some oil on the air filter? that way it actually works!

  • The actual way to start a motorcycle is with one kick. i will show you in my video soon

  • Nice!

  • dude clzassic .mcysu1

  • i just got that bike in India

  • 10 times is too much, release the compresssion in 2-3 kicks, make it in 1 and go a slow smooth kick, royal enfield starts with lightest kick in all motorcycles, thumbs up if u agree

  • @amar2236611 I have been riding bullet for 8-9 years and I am fully agree with u...

  • dude u really dont have to give it such a hard kick man...... once ur done wid the multiple kicks with the compersion switch on n then u just take a soft and gentle kick and it shud start man.... if u give such a hard kick to it that means there is sumthen wrong wid the bike man.... u no that even a soft hand movement is plenty to start a bullet man.... but i dont no maybe ur bike is different.....

  • I had a 250 Crusader and a 500 Bullet with Sidecar frame in the early 70's. The Bullet was found in a shed in the middle of a field . The farmer was happy for us to take it away! We poured some petrol into the tank and it fired up on the third kick. We drove away, no helmets , two seated and one lying along the sidecar frame! Those were the days, etc, etc. I think I have still got the pristine condition wotkshop manual for the Crusader.

  • @LhodaKblerz I'm glad the video brought back some memories. Modern used Enfields are pretty cheap right now, so it's possible to get back on one now at a bargain price.

  • @hoohoohoblin how cheap are they new in india?

  • @ReconSurfer The 2011 350cc model is around 79,000 Rupees. The 500cc model is around 125,000 Rupees. At least I think that's right. I looked it up on the internet.

  • as yu can see

  • Nice one

  • @yeduru2707 Thanks.

  • Hello hoohoohoblin!

Please tell me what your opinion for a 930 AMAL carb? I have one 2007 Bullet 500 standard on original MICARB. So I like change a Mikarb for a AMAL 930. This better god?

    greetings from Hungary

  • @ritterkreuz74 It runs well and has power from idle to redline without any flat spots. My bike has 22,000 miles on it, and I don't know when the Amal was installed. It is pretty worn out at this point, and the slide will stick open sometimes, which is scary. I was actually planning to replace it with a MiCarb sometime soon.

  • @hoohoohoblin

Hello thanks for a answer. So I have one RE 500 Bullet from 2007. My bike have a 10000 miles. It have a micarb carburettor. Not to bad, but very poor quality. Could I possible your email adress?

    regards ritt

  • So...these things dont have any circuitry in their ignition systems?

  • @hundvonkrieg It's an old-fashioned points and condensor system. You can watch my Royal Enfield Tune up video to see how it works.

  • hi nice 2 see the video i appreciate the effort behind it....

but u can start an bullet in two kicks...thats the trick

  • I meant to say it takes a few minutes just to start the bike (joke)

  • hope you don't need to go anywhere in a hurry with this bike!

  • @enanotodo The fun of the Enfield is that it makes you slow down and enjoy the scenery. Riding a slow bike slow can be as much fin as riding a fast bike fast. If I want to go faster, I get on my Buell Cyclone.

  • @enanotodo jajajajaj

  • Haha you looked so happy when you successfully started your bike :D nice vid

  • @hoohoohoblin

    Great job dawg..

N i want to tell u, these smuckers r just saying all absurd about punjab..

Ask them if they own triumph or HD n then try to say anything like that..

May be they don't even belong there and trying to have a big mouth..

Punjabi ppl own hellova harleys too these days..

Cheers!! U have a nice ride too!!

  • @kennyjason Thanks. I just wanted to make a kick start video. I don't know how Punjab got involved, but it is funny watching people fight about it and insult each other. I hope my video helps new Royal Enfiield owners get their bikes started.

  • Wow wouldn't it be easier just to walk?

  • It practically requires a BA in Physiques, a Minor in Chemistry and at the moment of starting an IQ above room temperature. Still an awesome looking bike my friend. Peer envy here!!

  • Hi Hoobs, You saved me a lot of kicking there boyo, I have just fitted an Amal 928 (28mm) to my 500 Bullet Sixty-5 and was trying to start it like I used to start my bikes in the old days, (the 60s) full choke flood like hell and jump on the kickstart with a"long swinging kick" but this didn't work, After watching your vid again, I remembered it from a while ago, now 1st or second kick thanks a heap.BTW I run a 180 main, 106 needle jet, std needle in middle notch & no 3 slide may go to a 3.5 DJ

  • @notwocdivad Awesome! I'm glad the video helped. Thanks for including the jetting info.

  • la ahogaste :)

  • Drewwwwl

  • just seen: 100.000 views, congrats!

Btw: In Indian English, they have a specific word for 100.000 - one Lakh. It comes from Hindi (where it is the same word, of course ... ;-)

So, one Lakh views, and big luck to own such a bike ... ;-)

  • @bangalorebobbel Woo-hoo! I'm famous! But if I'm so famous, why aren't I rich? Oh, well. I'm glad people are watching the video, and I hope it helps them get their Royal Enfields started. Thanks for pointing out that I've finally hit the 100,000 view mark. My new-years resolution was to have 1 million views of all my videos by the end of the year. I'm over 600,000 now, so I think I'll hit a million by December.

  • @hoohoohoblin

well, famous but not rich? You are rich: You own a Bullet ... from biker's perspective, nothing else required ... ;-)))

And yes, famous - I think You are the one who is most famous for kickstarting a bike ... next to my neighbour, who is famous for kickstarting every morning at least twenty times before his scooter starts ... ;-)

Well, I guess, the one million views until 31.12.11 should be possible ... maybe I should start to view all Your vids again ... ;-)

  • man you should be careful when you kickstart it in that way. You can preak the kickstarter. It happend to me(dkw rt 250s). Be careful :)

  • lol these bikes are so popular in india. everybody has one, especially in the northern part of india (Punjab) and why does yours look so small?

  • @SunnyGill247 it probably looks small because I'm tall. Also, the solo seat makes it look smaller.

  • cool bike nerd rider

  • @ganggreen Indeed!

  • Is this UCE engined or runs with old good cast iron engine?...coz many of the recent owners of Royal enfield say that the new engine doesn't give the same thump as the old bike used to...

  • @patela21 Mine is the old cast iron engine. I know the new ones make more power than the old one, and they probably have the same bore and stroke as the old one. Not sure about the thump. I like the look of the old engines better, but it would be nice to have another 10 or 15 mph of cruising speed like the newer models.

  • You forgot to swear at it. My grandfather used to have one of these and he always told me that the swearing was important.

  • @leapoffaith20 Excellent point. That really does help.

  • are these bikes good or recommendable for the free way? or are they only good for commuting?

  • @Narancazz No! Sustained speeds over about 60 mph will wear out the engine pretty fast on the classic Enfields like mine. The new 2011 models have a redesigned engine that they say can cruise at 70 mph, but that's still not fast enough for most big city freeways. It does get great gas mileage though. Mine gets about 60.

  • it seems like flyyin aan airplane would be much easier that startin that bike

  • @tropicalcall It's pretty quick to start when you get used to it, and the bike is tuned properly. Describing how to do it while you're doing it does take a while.

  • Thanks for posting , I never thought these bikes wore so dated in there workings but i guess that's what makes them what they are a real working classic .

  • Old model, got the silencer on "puff" and it is called a bullet thunderbird in india

  • @hoohoohoblin i myself own a bullet 350 standard... its got smoother firing than yours nd i need to decompress just once. looks like u hav forgotten to release the choke back to its position.

  • Punjabis like me in India love Bullet

  • Nice Video.. Nice Bike!

  • @starguard Thanks!

  • Thanks for posting. 2 minutes and 47 seconds until you hear the sweet purrr....

  • is this the old cast iron motor? or the UCE motor?

  • @exceptional1414 It's the old cast iron model.

  • @hoohoohoblin awesome mate!... the thing i dig the most in bullet is it's thumping engine sound. UCE motors are better but just don't have that feel to it as the cast iron motors. Good on ya mate!

  • Ok so my brother rides a Triumph bonneville and it is like 3 inches too tall for me. I was wondering if this is any shorter than that? Nice looking bike by the way!!!

  • @MrTooweak It is shorter. I'm not sure by how much. It depends on what year Bonneville your brother has. My pants have a 32-inch inseam, so maybe you can get an idea of how short the bike is based on that. It is on the center stand in the video, and it has a few inches suspension sag when it is off the stand.

  • nice bike, but i wouldnt use it for a bank robbery

  • @riphaven It's definitely not a bike for lawbreaking. It's hard to even exceed the speed limit on it. But that made me ask myself what motorcycle would be best for a bank robbery? I'm thinking light weight, fast, ability to jump curbs, hard luggage to hold the loot, enough fuel for a 150-mile escape. BMW F800GS maybe?

  • @hoohoohoblin boss hoss, hopefully the cops will get scared and leave you alone... :P

  • You do not need so much kicking around just you mentioned. Bring it to TDC, that's ammeter to zero, press down the kicker a bit more, then release the kicker. Now don't kick it down, just softly force it down, it will start without any effort at atll. Just that you need to practice it to get it correct.

  • @leorcid Thanks. I'll put a note in the video to tell people not to kick it so hard.

  • @hoohoohoblin That was nice, for that I would subscribe to your channel. How reliable is this bike by the way, is it easy to maintain and repair on your own, or do u recommend a machanic to maintain it?

  • @Adriangrosvenor It is easy to repair and maintain. It does require more maintenance than a more modern motorcycle, and it will break down on you sometimes. Parts are cheap. The 2011 Royal Enfields have an updated design, with fuel injection and a faster, more reliable engine, with a very classic look. That may be the way to go, depending on your budget.

  • @hoohoohoblin ok nice, thanks. But the new one does not require the same procedure to stop

  • Almost everything you did was wrong. Firstly, you don't need to kick it 10 times with the decompression lever in. 2 times will do. More importantly, when you are kicking with the decompression lever pressed, don't kick. Gently push the kick down. You will encounter compression along the way, and it is not recommended you apply too much force at this point. Just enough to nudge past this compression. Most importantly, however, you should turn the bike off by pressing the decompression lever.

  • Now rev it up so hard that it literally takes off the ground and shoots towards the moon fug fug fug fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugugruuuuuuuuuugggggggggggggggggggggggggg here we goooooooooooooooO!!!

  • Step 1. Put Key in bike

    Step 2. Wash Vagina

  • @robertmoses1 Thanks for mentioning Step 2. I originally had it in the video, but edited it out due to YouTube's decency policy. If you make a video of yourself performing Step 2, post it as a response to my video so others can see how it's done. It's important to keep clean.

  • @hoohoohoblin My three Enfield Bullets generally start a lot easier than that...and I usually skip step 2,as well...

  • @hoohoohoblin :That a boy mate..;)

  • Hey i have a question, i have a similar choke lever like yours on the handle bar, now how do i fit it on my stock 500 bullet? I just bought the choke lever and need to figure out a way to get a cable and fix it like you did..thanks

  • All that wasted effort kicking it through with the compression release engaged

(10 times!!!) does nothing, but if you like doing it, by all means, knock yourself out.

    Ride safe.

  • @morgietheblackdog You may be right. My Royal Enfield starts easier when it's been sitting for a few days and is cold if I kick it through a bunch of times like I do in the video before trying to start it. I'm not sure if all Enfields are like this, or if there's something wrong with mine. If I've started it before that day and it's warm, I don't do all of the extra kicking.

  • Most people ive seen seems to think the tickler is a pump, its not. What you do is pushing the floater down to overflow the carb, the correct way to treat it is just push it down and keep it down until gas comes seeping out.

  • @KapteinOpel You're right. Thanks for clarifying that. If you want to identify someone who rides an old British bike, smell their finger. If it smells like gas, they've been tickling their Amal.

  • @hoohoohoblin Well the Bing carb on old Norwegian "Tempo" bikes also has a tickler.. ;) So if you smell some two stroke oil in addition to the gas it might be riding one of those.. :)

  • hey common man its not a big deal to start a bullet....... even my 7th standard bro can kick start a bullet in single go... you just made it look so difficult..... no offence but seriously dude you really need some help to learn how to kick it with a single or two compression stroke..... anyways good work...... it can really help a beginners...

  • @gpsmatharu I made the video for beginners, or people who bought a Royal Enfield without anyone telling them how to start it. Mine came from a police impound auction in a state with no Royal Enfield dealers, and my only kick-start bikes were a KZ650 and Triumph Bonneville, which you just choke and kick to start. I didn't know what to do with the compression release or where to position the piston to start it. It's simple to start once you know how to do it, but someone has to show you how.

  • I just gently kick my 500 and the compression stop dead at Tdc, i cant miss it. But tnen i have high comp piston and other fun stuff...Havent passed the 170 km/h yet but im getting there :) I think it is a really funny bike, like my old moped just sluggish and heavy.

  • @Fluffezorg It really is the perfect bike for someone who likes to constantly repair, improve and tinker. It is so imperfect, no matter what you do to it, that there's always something left for you to obsess over and replace. That's why I bought mine. I have a couple of modern bikes that work all the time to ride while I have the Enfield taken apart.

  • Just like my dad's 68 BSA Victor Special...

  • You are getting your motor past TDC on the compression stroke and ready for 2 good revolutions before it fires. The fact that the amp meter is showing a draw on the battery due to ignition position is an indicator sure, but you should be able to just "feel it". The fact that you just touch the tickler and you have success starting is because you're using a choke.

A real tickeled amal's float level is raised to the gasket height when the mixture is truely enriched.

  • Guys stop saying that only Punjabis know how to ride bullet.. lol.. Bullet is a lifestyle which people like irrespective of place and culture. And yes I am a Punjabi from Ferozpur, now in US and missing my bullet :( . Very good video. I bet u r having fun with ur bike. I am trying to see if i can get one in US but they are expensive here, I think harley would be cheaper but harley is no bullet.

  • @hoohoohoblin happen to own a 1972 Standard and a 1998 Standard 350CC. Looking at your AMP meter, even after a decompress, its a little to the left. you may wanna get your timers checked. :) Cheers.

  • go to Punjab, India and learn how to ride the bullet like a man u jack asses... and yes i am referring to how he had to stand up to kick it

  • @SimritSingh Ha ha! I just bought a plane ticket to Punjab. I'll be staying at your house. Do you have a motorcycle I can borrow? But seriously, you do raise a good point. To start the engine you don't need to stomp down as hard as you can. You can do it sitting down, with a good strong kick. If you kick it too hard, it doesn't help the motorcycle start, and it can damage the kickstart pawl.

  • @SimritSingh He didn`t do a thing wrong. You were just looking to fault something so you could let everyone know you are from the punjab and how great you all are.

  • @SimritSingh A Bullet is a STARTER BIKE for Morons!

Which is why I had one when I was younger! ;)

If you want to be a Man, Simrit, you have to ride a Man's bike! Get a Harley Davidson! ;)

  • @SimritSingh

lol, maybe the guy has bad knees!

  • A useful video, Thanks.

Which seat is that you have fitted?

  • Just a little harder to start than a 500 2 stroke...

  • Helmet...check.

    Cowboy fence building gloves...check

Short pants and running shoes...wait a damn minute!

  • @malberts1954 Deerskin fence building gloves from the local swap meet are the most comfortable gloves I've ever had. I need the short pants and running shoes in case I get stranded somewhere and have to run home. I wear the helmet all the time because I tend to fall down a lot and bump into things. Cheers!

  • lovely bike seems complex, British design complicated in India

still love it does it leak oil like a original

  • @sootty94 It doesn't leak oil at the moment, but that could change at any time. You definitely have to keep up with the maintenance and be gentle with the throttle to keep a Royal Enfield Bullet running. I love this motorcycle.

  • Ah! This takes me back. I had a 1980 Classic model all through my high school. God I miss this bike! Fortunately, they are now going to have a dealer ship here in Canada so fianlly I can get my hands on one. Although, I think there have been changes made to it from what I am use too. Hopefully, they are not too drastic. Nice sounding bike tho!

  • Did u just say the 2010 model?

  • @jerryx2000 Mine is a 2001 l 4-speed Classic, kick-start only model. The new 2010 G5 Classic Royal Enfields have kick-starters, but they are fuel injected, so the starting procedure would be a little different. I haven't had a chance to ride one yet, so I don't know how different it would be.

  • Fantastic video...Hats off to this bloke..close to perfection for a cold start

  • yeah!

  • i just bought a new 2010 royal enfield bullet 350 last month here in india, anyhow they have stopped producing efi models for a year cause the standard model with classic point ignition system is highly in demand here.one have to wait upto six months to get his bike or pay the black to dealer if they want it soon.i have changed the handlebar( i put the classic one on it )and the same old original silencer & the xenon lamp for headlight this bike gives a special kind of attitude when you ride it

  • @jattonflv Wow! People don't want the new technology on their Royal Enfield Bullets? I guess that makes sense. They know how to work on the old ones, but the new ones are more complicated. Sounds like you've got a great bike.

  • bullet is maah life i m so lucky that i have two....one standard and other electra.....

  • Bullets are now made in India, and yeah, they are really good. I think the new ones can go till 100 mph. The big disadvantage in the Bullet is it's break. Takes forever to adjust, since the break is on left leg.

  • my favorourite bike, I love these and i hope to get one someday! how do they do for riding in mtns or with the sidecars? I know top speed is only about 75 and that it may not be good to ride on an interstate but i really like these bikes!

  • @dirtyjew1974 I live at sea level and have gone into the low mountains with mine. Top safe sustained speed is around 55 mph on the older Bullet motorcycles. People do put sidecars on them, and they look great. I'd recommend getting a 2010 model for best performance. The engine is all-new, more reliable, fuel injected, EFI, and it can cruise a lot faster than the older ones. They start at $5,995. Resale value is pretty low, so you may want to look for a used one a year old. You'll love it.

  • I want to thank you so much for making this video! I Bought a '96 Royal Enfield bullet 500ks in november, And have never been able to start it. Literally a minute after watching your video the bike started third kick! I definitely feel like more of a man now! HaHa!

  • @mohawkdriver7 That's the best comment I've seen yet. That's exactly why I made the kick start video. I went through the same thing when I bought my bike from a guy who got it at an auction and couldn't tell me how to start it. I'm glad I could help. Enjoy your Royal Enfield Bullet!

  • hello, plz tell me where can i buy the seat, handle bar and the rear mudguard u got? i want them badly, they luk grt fr a classic style.

  • @arouninn The seat is made by Le Pera. It doesn't have a model number on it, so I can't tell you exactly what kind it is. They call the style of seat "Sprung Solo" on their website. The handlebar and rear mudguard are stock Royal Enfield items, which came from the factory. It is a 2001 model. The rear taillight is a smaller custom model, rather than the giant one on a stock Royal Enfield motorcycle. I don't know where it came from.

  • hello, plz tell me where can i buy the seat, handle bar and the rear mudguard u got? i want them badly, they luk grt fr a classic style.

  • Free Motorcycle Manuals here. All Makes and Models - ** freemotorcyclemanuals (dot) net **

  • If you need to get away from the police and you need to start this thing, lol :P

  • @mistersingh1 Ha ha! Yes. If you are planning to rob a bank, I'd recommend a different bike. If you were to use the Royal Enfield Bullet 500 for a quick escape, you'd want to make sure it was totally warmed up, and that you left the cylinder in the correct starting position, in which case you could just jump on it, kick it and go, but it would still be a lot slower than the police cars, and too loud to sneak away from them down a side street.

  • as you can see the engine is ice-cold...

    sry, i can't ^^

  • Ha! Next time I make a motorcycle kickstart video I'll use a heat-sensing infrared camera. I just don't have one yet, so I figured if I put my hand on the exhaust pipe before kicking it over, you'd believe that the engine wasn't hot. Technically speaking, it wasn't as cold as ice. It was only as cold as the air temp that day, which was around 70 degrees.

  • it was just dumb to use the phrase "as you can see" for the engines temperature .

  • @bunburyZ he meant cause YOU CAN SEE that he can touch the exhaust pipe

  • @bunburyZ Perfectly sensible, he placed his bare hand palm down onto the downpipe immediately exiting the Cylinder head, if the bike had been running for even 30 seconds the heat generated there is so intense he wouldn't have been able without badly burning himself., the palm of your hand is the most temperature sensitive part of your body, the only 'dumb' thing here is making a comment like yours

  • @SterculiniuM smartass

  • you look so happy on that bike! i would be too. how expensive is a "modern" enfield? let's say, your bike... i'd like to have some old school real motorcycle. my sv650 is a great bike, but too modern :)

  • If you get one, keep the Suzuki as a reliable backup. The new Royal Enfield Motorcycles are faster and more reliable than the old ones like mine, and the cheapest model is $5,349 brand new. Used older models are really cheap. Check eBay to see how cheap. Mine is a 2001 model, and it's good up to 60 or 65 mph, doesn't vibrate too much, and gets over 60 mpg. It gets a lot of attention as well, as there aren't many Royal Enfields in California. enfieldmotorcycles is the official website.

  • alright who do i have to kill to ride with this baby

  • yes bro thats the right technique thanks for sharing

  • You're welcome. Happy to help. I'm glad so many people are finding this video.

  • Hey .. it is much easier to kick start while standing on the right side next to the bike. Rest of the ritual remains pretty much same.

Try that and I am sure you'll find it easier.

    Ride safe!

  • one good thing about this motorbike.. drunk cant start and drive :)

  • Yes. It's like a big breathalizer. And if they do get it started, they can't go fast enough to do much damage.

  • @geekraja can't agree with you, I've done it almost on a regular basis for 5 years when I was in India :)

  • im thinking on getting one of these bikes, ive never owned a bike before but im not out for speed, i just wanna take nice rides around the mountains or around town so if anyone has any input for me just let me know anything i may need to know because i dont know much about bikes..i just hear the enfields are well made and dependable so comment back or personal message me, the input would be great!

  • I always recommend people learning to ride a motorcycle buy one that's new or almost new and completely reliable, since you'll be spending a lot of your attention focusing on learning to work the clutch, brakes, gears, and trying not to get killed. I'd recommend you start out with a Suzuki GS500 or Kawasaki EX500 Ninja. They don't have the cool factor of the Enfield, but they're friendly, low Maintainance and reliable. If you do go with an Royal Enfield, buy a new one with fuel injection.

  • hmmm. seems like alot of work to kickstart the bike. On my bike I turn the key, light up a smoke and kick it over.....

  • My first 2 kickstart motorcycles (1978 Kawasaki KZ650 and chopped 1969 Triumph Bonnevile) would start like that. Just turn it on, choke it and kick it. I figured this bike would be just as easy, and it is once you get the piston in the right position before you kick it. If you don't get the piston to TDC, you can stomp on it with all your weight and the lever doesn't budge, and that can be painful. Now that I know the drill, I get it started pretty fast.

  • the kick start for this can be pretty dangerous it caan hurt you if your do it right. Trust me i know lol.

  • how much? canadian?

  • I live in California. I don't think Royal Enfield Motorcycles are legal in Canada, but I've read postings by people who have managed to get them into the country and licensed. I paid $2,300 in US dollars for the bike, which would be $2,400 in Canadian dollars at today's exchange rate.

  • i admire your dedication to the bike man... God bless and ride safe... by the way, there is the bullet efi classic.. check that one out..

  • I like the EFI classic. Faster and more reliable than my bike. I may have to smuggle one into California.

  • get a life you are sad

  • Ha ha! Actually I'm happy, but I appreciate your kind words and concern. It's really funny that you hate Royal Enfields so much that you use that as your user name. What's the story behind that?

  • Nice vid. Just got a standard 500, having had an electric start Electa X before. Boy is a b*st*rd to start from cold. I think the Amal carb (which my previous bike had) is great, but a bit sensitive and seemed to go out of adjustment quite qyuicly, leading to misfires, etc.. When correctly set up, though, is lovely. The 350 is a lot easier to kick over, but I'll get the knack eventually, and this will help. Ride safe, and never forget the old saying 'Loud Valves Save Lives'!!

  • Thanks. I hope your bike gets easier to start. I'm going to adjust my valves soon, as everyone who watches my video thinks they're really loud. I had a Moto-Guzzi before I got the Enfield, so I thought loud valves were normal, and I've never actually heard another Enfield running in person. Maybe I'll make a valve-adjusting video as well. Ride safe.

  • Sir, Really nice video. Thanks for posting. The bike here comes with a Mikuni Carb and a really small 90 size jet. You might want to tighten the tappets if you do not ride too fast. It seems to me that the tappets are a bit loose.

  • Thanks. I'm still new to the bike and haven't checked the tappets yet. I'll do it soon. My Moto Guzzi had really loud valves, so I thought it was normal, but there are no other Enfields around here, so I have nothing to compare it to and didn't realize they were unusually loud.

  • You can make the bullet virtually silent. The only sound you will hear is the exhaust beat and the small peep-peep noise from the oil breather from the bottom of the cylinder block. There are 3 basic types of noises that can be arrested 1. Cam noise from backlash 2. Tappet noise 3. Rocker arm noise. Valve guide noise needs a visit to the machine shop. To adjust your tappet, open the tappet inspection door (on the gear box side below the cylinder block).

  • Please note the orientation of the tappet door and especially the packing underneath as it has to be put back the same way, or else oil may leak. Spin the push rods with your thumb and if they twirl around freely, they are too loose. They need to move under thumb pressure but should not spin freely. Unlock the lock nut, tighten the tappet and lock the lock nut. Now stand on your kicker and make sure there is no compression loss. The kicker should hold your weight. with this setup < 60 mph

  • nice bike, i think putting a modern air filter spoils the nice and authentic looks, it maybe more efficient but looks odd. i think a trumpet or bell type air intake would look better.

  • You're right, but I want it to last a long time, so I put the UNI filter on it. One of those bell intakes would look really retro, but I would worry every time there was dust or bugs in the air. Someone probably makes an old-style filter. I just haven't looked around for one.

  • Ha ha ha ha ha ha! I'm going to make another video teaching you grammar. At least use a spell checker before calling someone an ideat, whatever that is? But seriously, I bought my bike in a state where there are very few Enfields and no dealers, and I bought it from a guy who bought it at an auction and didn't know how to start it. I thought it would make it easier for new Enfield owners by making a video. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Peace.

  • Nice looking bike. I have a 350 in grey. Personally i dislike the Amal, the mikcarb is fine. I dont think you have to do the extra bit with the kickstart or use the decomp, tickle the carb a bit more, just kick slowly till you hear the air ooze, let it wind back and kick through.

  • HOLY SHIT! THAT LOOKS COOL!

  • hee 8))

  • id still put an electric starter on mine lol.

  • Ha ha! Never!!!!

  • REAL BIKE!!!!!!!

  • Hi hoohoohoblin!

    Your Enfield looks breathtaking!

Please, I absolutely need to know what make your indicators are and the seat as well.

I have a 2006 Greyhound Bullet 500 (directly from India). My seat is handmade(!) with a kind of cotton cords and starts to fall apart already.

    Please let me know, cheers.

  • Thanks. The seat is made by Le Pera. It doesn't have a model number on it, so I don't know exactly what type it is. The blinkers are a generic style I've seen lots of places. The blinkers can be found on the royalenfieldusa online store, and they are called Bullet Turn Signals.

  • hey hoohoohoblin

Nice bike you have there. I own a 1995 350cc standard and I live in India. Believe me when I say your bike, does not sound terribly healthy. It sounds kind of wheezy. what model is yours and which year was it built? I do not know if this is specifically for non Indian REs because most of the bikes here which are in anywhere from decent to good condition, sound very crisp and deeper.

  • I think the sound of the bike is affected by the angle of the camera and proximity to the wall. My kick start a Honda XL500R video shows my Honda sounding sick and wheezy as well, but both bikes run and sound great.
