My 02 ES (3.5) needed a thermostat. did it myself, little tough because it's down low. Assuming you have no coolant leaks and the oil isn't contaminated with coolant, it's probably the thermostat. The coolant by the way is the Orange coolant and you need to use distilled water to mix it with. good luck
Probably water pump because it has PLASTIC impeller which not last long enough. Overheating may be due to poor coolant circulation.
Week ago I did my changing timing belt and other timing components. I puted water pump with METAL impeller. It cost a little more $ but more reliable. And don't worry about rust (new coolant rust preventive).
Anyway it was long time ago and you probably sold your car already!
ok one question why the hell dont you simply replace the thermostat or check if the radiator has a leak, the only thing is, if you've driven it to far while its over heated you will have ruined the motor
If it is overheating that does not mean the motor is bad. And it should be an easy fix things to ask is it using coolant? Is there coolant in the oil or coming out the ex pipes? Are there and leaks. If that motor has a leak 2 things will happen one loose to much coolant it will over heat not enough cooling system pressure it will over heat. Are the fans coming on? Has the car ever went into limp-in mode. If the pcm is back it will over heat.
@vector150 yes sir sounds like you know your stuff just had to replace my radiator in my intrepid because i saw it over heating stopped and fixed it in the parking lot hahaha!
dare say itd be the water pump, 3.5 s are known for this ive had to change mine at 112k timeing belt as well, not to big of a deal ,nice ride tho,2 grand?....... I'd do it
Man your BRAVE you got ur car on a hill on SYSOR JACK STANDS those fukers are dangerous BE CAREFULL BRO untill u can get a fast jack ive seen those jacks hurt ppl bad
Simply overheating isnt a bad thing. If youve LET it overheat to the point where gaskets are fried, heads are warped or youve done enough damage to the piston, It isnt worth 500 dollars, because the entire engine would need replaced. Assuming you havent done that, Check all connections for the rad. Exterior coolant leaks can be caused by something as simple as a rad hose with a hole in it, and it can cost nothing to replace as long as you dont make it worse by allowing it to continue.
Im interested in buying it. I need a project car, i got 4 good intrepid motors and need to buy 4 of them with bad motors. How much do you want for it, and the only thing is i gotta tow it all the way up here. Sucks you live in FLA.

I hope you got it fixed....
It's either a clog/bad in the radiator
a clog in the hoses
a stuck thermostat
a bad water pump
I suggest taking it to a mechanic to tell you what's wrong then buying the parts yourself and either putting them in or paying someone to do it

hey will you sell the rims ????

If the cooling system is not leaking, then it could be a thermostat that is stuck shut, or a clogged radiator.
