A) Do not let ducklings swim in pools, the chlorine is horrible for them and they can die from that alone

B) You helped that one out of the egg and it looked very dry in the beginning. Helping is 80% fatal without lots of experience, and also should be done little bits at a time. The bird should not be that dry. In the future leave it in a moist warm area.

I used to have pet ducks when I lived on the country, they would always hang out with the chickens and peacocks.

I remember we had so many ducks wild ducks would wander on our property and never leave, lol.

We use a mineral pack to clean the pool so it doesn't have as much chlorine as most pools... :)

aww I used to have a duck that looked just like that. her name was Peanut, I thougt she was a boy. =/ I would play hide-n-seek with her & she hated it cuz she would freak out and start quacking like crazy cuz she couldn't see me anywhere. then I'd come out and she run to me and follow me everywhere! I bought her a kiddy pool and she loved it! I had to give her away eventually and that's when I found out she was a girl. I miss her so much =(

You don't want to feed him until 24 hours after he has hatched. He will have enough nutrients from the yolk sac at that point. Then you can feed him some sort of "starter crumbs" that you generally buy at an animal feed store. I believe the kind we bought was called "start and grow." The people at the feed store should be able to help you. Good luck!!!

The duckling's mother abandoned its nest so we were able to put the egg in our chicken's nest and she sat on the egg along with her chicken eggs. We then removed the duckling when it was hatching.

You can get them at a feedstore. They usually sell them around springtime. They are not expensive. Flip flop, however, was given to us by a friend who's duck abandoned her nest.

This reminds me so much of a baby duck that hatched off our porch. The mother rejected it because it hatched out of a rotten egg.We took him in, bathed him and tried to care for him but on the third day he died. We think he had just been in the rotten egg for too long and the noxious yolk poisened him.You did a great job caring forFlip Flop, thanks for sharing his story, we loved our little guy even though he did not live long.
