You want to know what "Q" means? It means sufficating death blows to the ear drum, right up there next to the airhorns. The less you pay attention, the more they start to sound louder =D
they are all pretty much for the same thing- just that sifferent tones you can hear over different surrounding sounds-- it is good to have more than one tone on each truck because you can change the sound which gets your attention more, you notice the change over one monotonous sound---just like the faster tones are better for clearing intersections.
@derjoghurtmitderecke its a siren. most of the engines/rigs in nyc uses the eq2b. its electronic. so it doesnt use the actual wailing. the ladders and some other rigs still uses the pa300 system. also a siren.

Wow they have so many different sirens !!! In germany they have only one. Can you explaine, which types there are and for what ? That would be cool.
