No, that is a very, very bad idea. It is basically ethanol, which will easily melt off the glue that holds the contacts in position. Use isopropyl because it is weaker than ethanol but strong enough to wipe the contacts clean.
Basic science lesson for you: Since rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) and water (H20) are both polar molecules, so, yes it is possible to mix them together to weaken the rubbing alcohol's strength, depending on what volume of water you use.
For example, 1/4 tablespoon of 99% isopropyl and 1/4 tablespoon of H20 combined together will decrease the rubbing alcohol's strength by 50% (99% to 49.5%, rounded off to 50%).
To get close to 75%, use 1/8 tablespoon of H20 and 1/4 tablespoon of 99% isopropyl.
When i take a picture it tells me to clean the lens contacts but only for my quantaray lens, not my cannon lens. the cannon lens works fine. i cleaned the lens but still doesnt work :\
Sorry to disappoint you but you aren't the only one here. We have absolutely NOTHING against Canon or any other manufacturers, we just trust Nikon for two reasons: High quality Nikkor commercial grade lenses (for the highest quality images) *and* its accurate autofocusing system (that allows the user to make any tweaks to AF behavior).
But, we don't use just Nikons - there are Leica, Arca-Swiss, Linhof, Hasselblad, etc. etc, - depending on what kind of shooting scenario we work under.
FACE THE CAMERA DOWN. That way, dust won't go anti-gravity and fall onto the focusing screen. With the camera facing down... Dust falls down out of the shutter chamber.
Can i use the alcohol from the lens cleaning kit?

Most of lens cleaning kit's "alcohol" is just water with barely any alcohol added to the mix. A pure rubbing alcohol is recommended.

Can I use 99% isopropyl? Cannot find any 70%
DinosaursOnceRuled 1 year ago
Yes.

@Lilkiwiguy87 - Thats great, cause 99% is all I can find, here in Denmark.
Would it be possible to achieve a 70% solution, by mixing the alcohol with water ?

could you make a video about cleaning the viewfinder?
I can see dust when I look into the viewfinder....but I don't know how to clean it.

If it is not a D2- / D3-Series DSLR... Send it in, period, end of story. Nikon will clean it for you for free.
