@laci4495 Thanks! It's a 2004 Monte Carlo with a 3.8 V6. But I traded it in last year for a 2006 Monte, which had a 5.3 V8 and half as many miles. The '06 Monte was newer and faster, but it got horrible gas mileage. (The V6 got 24 mpg, the V8 got 17 mpg.) Last month I traded it in for a Hyundai, which now get 38 mpg!!! : ) But since it's a small & weak car I can't race it. Oh well, ya gotta sacrifice one thing to gain another.
Put a Cold Air and magnaflow mufflers (cheap, but good) on it. Maybe see if you can chip it or tune. Good thing about a v6 little things done to them are cheap and made a difference. Dont have an Monte (Jag), but a good car for a great price. Plus you can drive it in the snow(fwd).
Thanks! Trust me, I'd love to add a cat-back system and other mods to this car, but I don't have the money just yet. But yes, this is a great daily driver, comfortable to ride, and decent handling in snow. :)
Gosh, this was like two years ago... I don't remember what the Mustang's time was, but I think my Monte ran 15.5 or 15.6. Heck, I don't even have this car anymore- a few months ago I traded it in and bought a 2006 SS. A big upgrade from a 3.8 to a 5.3!!! :D The new one gets poor gas mileage though. The '01 V6 got 23 mpg, and the '06 V8 gets 19 mpg. Oh well.
The mustang probably has a better gear ration near 2nd and 3rd, giving it more torque and power even halfway through the race. Monte carlos are not geared for that, and the fact that you gave it a good run for it's money is enough to make me say that 5.0 should have out up MUCH more of a fight then that. The fact that it almost lost is almost laughable.
Yeah, with a V8 and manual transmission, the Mustang has a hell of a lot more torque! :( My car has a V6 and automatic, so I'm shocked that I was able to keep side-by-side with him up until the end. Can't wait until spring, track reopens in April! :D
Next time you're out driving wait until 2nd gear (30mph) and stomp on it. Preferably by yourself. THAT's torque, and for a car that big? Shit, I'd even go as far to say as thats amazing.
I don't remember off-hand, but I think probably between 2000-2500 rpm. I know 15.6 isn't very impressive, but keep in mind that the car is 99% stock, the only mod I've really done is a cone air filter. Oh, and I removed the driver-side headlight while racing, that might've helped a bit.
Thanks! It's not a bad car, very comfy and actually quite reliable. I bought mine last year with 54k miles on it. Currently it has 68k and I've only had to replace tires, brakes, and filters so far.
Mine's a 2001 SS with the naturally-aspirated 3.8 V6. It only has 200hp so the Stang had no trouble kicking my butt. I really wish I had the supercharged version of the 3.8 with 240hp, then the outcome would've been much different! (I should be thankful though. It could be worse- I could have the LS model with the 3.4 V6... it only has 180hp!)
what year is yours, i have the same exact car? love it

Live in a box. Eat wild turtles for food. Save every dime. Mods are always worth a little sacrifice.

@Enemyofreali7y You mean the N/A 3.8? They do alright for an older engine, 200HP and 225lbs of torque, the FWD setup helps the torque.

I just purchased a 2002 Monte Carlo SS, and I have to say, for a first car, you can't do much better. Nice run, man.

Thanks! Even though the Stang beat me, it was still a close race and was a lot of fun!
