Guys, If you actually knew what happened, they DID try to kill the pigs an alternate way with injections. The pigs didn't die, and they can't just go around slashing their throats all at once.
If they did that, it would take a lot long for them to kill the pigs. That means, it could possibly spread the disease even further. The Koreans had no choice but to bury the pigs. It doesn't look like they WANT to. They know the fastest way to do the job.
You know what, if your country had this problem rise to epidemic proportions like us, your governments would be doing the same thing. It's not like we enjoy killing poor LIVING pigs like that, but as others mentioned, it's too costly for us to shoot them one by one.

I fined this a primitive act of our morality, we all know damn well that these animals felt what was happening to themselves and that we, has the supposed intellectuals of this planet, would support it. I have nothing against what these people had to do in order to prevent these pigs from spreading disease, understandably they had to because it was their job and thats what keeps their family supported, HOWEVER, do kill anything in such a gruesome and painful manner, is simply uncalled for.

The alternative is a pandemic outbreak that would kill far more animals, more painfully with an immeasurable impact on food stocks leading to human starvation and death, particularly in the third world. To simply chalk this up to a lack of humanity is not only single-minded but furthermore, shows ignorance of the realities involved. To suggest this is simple cruelty is nothing short of convenient. This prevention makes for shocking video but it is far less gruesome than the alternative.

Humans were never at risk here - this was FMD (humans are rarely affected by this virus). This was done to protect profits. The question not being asked is why were pigs being raised (factory farming) and shipped (packed into railroad cars and lorries) in a manner that would even permit this disease to spread so quickly? @lovethanhate also i dont see how using all those diggers and gas-guzzling industrial gear to dig a massive pit can be cheaper than just letting some of the south korean army use the infected pigs for target practice. every army waste's millions of rounds and explosives in training anyway, so it wouldn't make a difference. whereas with all that machinery, the fuel costs must have been huge.
and even if the need somewhere to put the corpses afterwards. there's cheaper alternatives to dig pit.
